erm, not sure if this will work but have started a thread in the interests of currying favour with MNHQ!

Yes, at the Nicolaides FMC I got 3D even at my 8-week viability scan -- and the equipment was good enough that they just did an external (abdominal) scan and got beautifully clear results even though I am not the world's skinniest person. And they were all lovely. I wish I had an excuse to have all my scans there...

fitfox · 13/11/2007 13:49

sfx - they do the bloods when you get there and process the results while they scan you. The scan lasts ages BTW (second what Ele says about taking their time with you), so they can give you the result on the spot and counsel you if neccessary. You don't have to make a decision about CVS on the day - unless you want it done th same day to get it all over with.

The bloods/nuchal scan/nasal bone/ cadiac tests/ measurements of various other bones, give the 95% accuracy. They do tests no other clinic can offer.

I am sure you will get a good result anyway, so probably wouldn't need any invasive tests. I suppose that if you did want an invasive test though, one would much rather it was done by Nicolaides, rather than by anyone else on the planet so to speak

fitfox · 13/11/2007 13:53

...oh and their office is fabulous, with loads of gorgeous greek art and relics lying around everywhere. They make you feel very pampered and look after.

I thought I knew a lot about Downs (my brother has Downs) but they told me stuff I didn't know, which was very reassuring. Plus all the Greek sonographers are pretty tasty.

{dirty old woman emoticon]

[snigger, snigger]

Paddlechick666 · 13/11/2007 13:56

mmmm, tasty greek sonographers, wonder if i can get pregnant just so's i can go there too.

OP posts:
fitfox · 13/11/2007 13:56

By "relics" I am not refering to older mothers like myself BTW

sfxmum · 13/11/2007 14:02

shall keep tasty Greeks on offer out of the conversation with dh.

I actually do know quite a lot about Downs and Autism for that matter, not only the clinical aspect but also the care aspect/ provisions of services etc.

and that scares me more than anything else

lemonaid · 13/11/2007 14:03

There is another approach to blood tests where they take two lots of blood a few weeks apart and then use both sets of results. I am not sure of any research showing that this is any more accurate than a really good cutting-edge nuchal scan combined with one lot of blood tests (and, come to think of it, virtually everyone I know who went down the two-blood-tests route didn't have a nuchal scan).

stepfordwife · 13/11/2007 14:04

sfx...
i love top model
in fact, my name is stepfordwife and i love reality TV

nothing to do with all the stunt/tricks/rows/, i just think it's fascinating watching how a ghroup of people interact.

in one of my many "debates' with DH - who loathes reality TV (likes the apprentice tho ) I screeched reasoned;'If you don't like big brother, you don't like people."

well, apparently a guy i used to work with who's friends witrh davina told her this gem and she was v.v.impressed. allegedly.
never said it on air though (how amiss)

or, of course, i'm just a braindead bint who likes rubbish TV

stepfordwife · 13/11/2007 14:15

when's your baby due, lemon?
how's the bump coming along?

lemonaid · 13/11/2007 14:20

Either 1 or 4 April, depending on who you ask... and I am eee-NOR-mous.

One of DS's nursery friends looked at me yesterday and said with 3-year-old candour "You've got a very big tummy".

Mind you, as she followed it up with "My mummy has a big tummy too", and her mother is extremely slender, extremely French and extremely chic (and not, so far as I am aware, even slightly pregnant (certainly not obviously so) although I suppose you never know), I am not blown away by her powers of observation.

sfxmum · 13/11/2007 14:21

thanks lemonaid and also the application on FB I will wait a while as some friends are also dh friends so I will let him tell them in due course.

steppie if we are on confession mode for cr*p telly I have a terrible fascination for Ghost Whisperer I mean she of the bouncy hair and bouncy boobs wearing improbable frocks while emoting with dead people is simply FAB

Top Model is a study on shallow evilness the jury clearly despises the girls youth and do their best to destroy them - quite entertaining but makes me feel dirty

bunyanvillas · 13/11/2007 14:47

SFX, many congratulations! Hope you are feeling ok. I have heard great things about the Fetal Medicine Centre and it will be worth every penny to put your mind at rest. Well, it's a slow and "tired" day at this end. Made it to the Lollipop Club this morning which was, predictably, rammed - and just about to put on a CD, don my Bob the Builder hat and have a "party" with dd! On the subject of crap TV - I'll put my hands up and admit to a love of "Most Haunted" and I have also recently viewed a programme about the search for a PA for Pete Burns - much to DH's utter disgust.

Paddlechick666 · 13/11/2007 14:53

god! what a filthy day.

it's been TV for dd and phone for me so far today. about to venture out to Currys and CarpetRight to do some research.

Yerch!

OP posts:
stepfordwife · 13/11/2007 14:58

well, lemonaid, 2-and-half years after having dd, ds1 and ds2 still ask me:"Are you SURE there isn't another baby in your tummy?" bless...
i've now told ds1 that he must never presume a woman is pregnant until he can actually see a baby emerging from her body.

sfx, i'm too scared to watch the ghost whisperer, as talking to dead people alrams me. bad enough talking to the living at times...

buny...erm, i've watched a few pete burns PA episodes.
you were brave to, er, brave the lollipop club. I've not taken dd there once and i used to go loads with the boys.

sfxmum · 13/11/2007 14:59

you brave soul Bunnyan , have not been to Lollipop in ages but can credit with teaching dd to elbow other kids, prime toughening ground.

must return there soon it is walkable.

paddle dd had had telly/ dvd all day plus some drawing, really must go out tomorrow don't care where

SushiMummy · 13/11/2007 15:13

Oh is it a crap telly confession time? Well, DH always laughs when I watch Sixth Sense with Colin Fry and Ugly Betty. This is rich coming from him who loves to watch the Bounty Hunter.

SJ99 · 13/11/2007 15:29

I love Ugly Betty too. Have to confess to watching Neighbours on occasion, cannot believe Paul Robinson is still in it

Mostly if I do watch TV it ends up being CBeebies

SJ99 · 13/11/2007 15:31

I take it Lollipop club's where to go if you're looking for a fight??!

DS waterproof trousers arrived today (part of his b'day pressie from G's), they look fab, can't wait to try them out

LOL Steppie re: tummy story

sfxmum · 13/11/2007 15:39

when dd was a tiny baby I used to watch day time TV and those psychic shows are top entertainment but you can't beat the American guy for pure smaltz _ and now I am probably offending someone

Ugly Betty is great fun love Ashley in it so funny I so miss Buffy

Kewcumber · 13/11/2007 15:39

I only watch BBC4 [pious emoticon]

sfxmum · 13/11/2007 15:40

SJ lollipop is a bit Lord of the Flies

stepfordwife · 13/11/2007 15:45

come now, ugly betty isn't rubbish tv..it's quality TV..
not sure about bbc4 tho

tell you the programmes i really hate...usually an 8pm sunday slot..you know what i'm saying..

heartbeat

and the like

stepfordwife · 13/11/2007 15:50

oh dear dh pickingh up a spluttering, coughing dd from cm
first thought: poor little thing
second thought: shit. hope she's OK tomorrow. i've got so much work to do
(better bloody do it then, eh )

Kewcumber · 13/11/2007 15:52

hope she hasn't caught it from DS.

Actually hope she has caught it from DS and it isn't a new bug thats going around as I couldn't stand him being ill again....

stepfordwife · 13/11/2007 16:09

think she probably has caught it from ds, kew
so hopefully not a 'new" strain!
she had a cough/cold at weekend, and thoiught it had cleared, but obviously not..
