Warrant out for me

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

If they don't pick you up tonight at your home then just go to station first thing in morning and hand yourself in. That way you'll he dealt with that day rather than spending the night in cells.

All you can do is explain yourself as best you can and provide any evidence to verify any of issues you wish to be considered then see what the court decides.

Yes have been dreading a knock at the door, l know I need to go to the station though the thought of being possibly in there all night is scary.

Part of me thinks I should though to get it over and done with.

Oh how scary for you OP. I could see something like this happen to me. I put things off to the point of extreme detriment (MH issues). Hope they go easy on you tomorrow Thanks

Yes as well as moving house recently I have health issues also.

I dont want to go really tonight though part of me thinks going there on my own accord might be better than being arrested at my home.

I sympathise with you op, jury duty is a very unappealing task for many.

Are any of your reasons verifiable to help your case? Like bereavement or Health issues?

I don’t know anything about these things but I think I would be tempted to call the station now and explain you will go innfirst thing tomorrow? At least if you have spoken to someone you may be able to rest tonight not constantly expecting a knock on the door?

Did they say on the phone when they expected you in? An overnight stay in the cells seems a bit harsh for not turning up to jury duty... I know we can’t have everyone not turn up, but surely they could deal with you in court? Hope you’re ok Op.

Going on your own will be viewed more favourably than hiding out and waiting on the Police to come IME. (In Scotland)

Ring your local station and make arrangements with them to come in. They may give you a timescale to attend (for example by 9am tomorrow) which you need to adhere to. Ring them now, it will make things easier in the long run.

Whaaaaat? I didn’t turn up for jury duty once and just had a phone call!? You can say no once as far as I’m aware, is this your second calling up?

I'd ring police station and say you'll be there by 10am.

I doubt they'll turn up and arrest you though tbh and stuck you in cells for the night.

The don't have staffing or space for the actual real criminals who should turn up in court!

I didnt actually say no to the jury service I have failed to turn up though.

Same as all the previous posters. Present at the local.

Good luck. I doubt you'd be locked up as Police not too keen on locking up women that are no threat to the public.

@LauraLesleyLogan if you are lucky you might get a Fiscals release, which means you are given a date to turn up on at some point in the future. (I'm not too sure how the "back end" decides these things, I work in a non-legal capacity in the courts on occasion)

I have rang my local police station, and the officer was quite understanding.

However I have been asked to make my way there for no later than midnight as it is a warrant.

I think they'll be reasonably nice about it all as it's not like you are one of the regulars, nor are you likely to give them abuse (I hope!)

Nope I wouldnt give them abuse, would be too scared to do so anyway altho I wouldnt as I am scared.
