Warrant out for me

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 18:51

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

It'll be over quicker the sooner you go

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 20:52

Yeh true, not going just now as I dont want this to go on any longer than it needs to.

Will make sure I am there for before 12 though.

Supermagicsmile · 16/01/2018 20:52

Go now and get it over with.

Sirzy · 16/01/2018 20:53

Sooner you are there the sooner it will be sorted

Shhhhhh2018 · 16/01/2018 20:54

Go now before the pubs start kicking out

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 20:54

Yes I know though the sooner I go the longer I could have to spend in a police cell.

My sister has offered to come and pick me up at 11, if she gets here that is as we have lots of snow right now.

IAmSamSamlAm · 16/01/2018 20:55

I wouldn't. If they've told you they're keeping you until court in the morning, I'd turn up at 11.45. Have a glass of wine if it'll help you sleep tonight in there.

Disclaimer; I've been in the cells as a dickhead teenager. You can ask for a book to read if you're struggling to sleep, they usually have a couple.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 20:56

Though is only a 5 minute drive to the police station I need to go to.

OP posts:
LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 20:58

Yes IamSamSamIam I have poured myself a glass of wine, to be honest though I dont think it will help me sleep at all.

Thinking also it will be freezing in there.

Weezol · 16/01/2018 20:58

They want you there before 12 as then the warrant has been dealt with on the date of issue. I would go sooner rather than later. Even if you are charged you will likely be bailed straight away.

Redglitter · 16/01/2018 20:58

It sounds like they're going to keep you in overnight & take you to court on your warrant in the morning. Going in too early will mean longer in the cells. But make sure you're there in plenty time. If you miss the cut off you could be held til Thursday morning.

ColourfulOrangex · 16/01/2018 20:59

Hope it goes oki OP Wine

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 21:00

Will make sure I am there before 12 for sure.

Why not google the sentencing guidelines for the crime you committed.

Failure to attend jury service is hardly a major crime.

It may give you some peace of mind knowing what the worst case scenario would be.

If you have a legitimate reason I doubt you will get more than a caution or a small fine.

I personally would get there as early as possible as they will take time to process you, speak to cps and have to get you to the courts depending on the action they are taking.

If its a caution or reprimand they will do that at the police station.

I wouldn't worry to much OP

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 21:01

and yes they are going to keep me in overnight I was told.

OP posts:
LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 21:02

I googled it already, can potentially be a fine of up to £1,000

Yes, wrap up warm. Though they will give you a dashing grey tracksuit if you ask for it Grin you'll be ok, don't worry. I'm pretty sure they'll bail you too. Seems silly not too. Are you in a major-ish city? If so, they really don't have the space for this kind of stuff. You're hardly a flight risk, especially once you've turned up as soon as you've heard about your warrant.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 21:03

maddaman As the op is in Scotland a lot of your post doesn't apply.

IAmSamSamlAm · 16/01/2018 21:04

Ah ok, cross post. Sounds unusual. Still, it's one night I guess. One of my friends was accused of something they didn't do and spent six whole years in prison before they were exonerated. Probably not much comfort but. You'll be ok. Thanks

travailtotravel · 16/01/2018 21:06

Don't drink. They may routinely breathalyse You!

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 21:06

Closest city is about 20 miles away

Yes I do intend to wrap up warm as it is one of the coldest nights of the year here.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 21:07

They won't breathalyse her. Although I agree don't drink drive!

VioletCharlotte · 16/01/2018 21:07

How ridiculous and what a complete waste of resources! The Police are too busy to follow up many actual crimes, yet have the resources to hold someone in jail overnight for failing to turn up for jury service.

Hope you're ok OP.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 21:08

Don't worry about wearing two many clothes, they will be taken off you and bagged anyway. Cells aren't always cold and they will give you as many blankets as you need.

Maddaman · 16/01/2018 21:09

Oh really? Didn't realise that it would be so much different in Scotland?

Either way I wouldn't worry about it too much they definitely will not put you in prison. Ive had 9 convictions in my younger years and not spent one day in prison.

Many nights spent in the cells though. Ask for extra blanket as the pillows are like rock!
