Warrant out for me

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 18:51

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

gwen are you confusing a police cell with a hotel? I think you need to thinkmof the reasons why those procedures are in place.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 21:27

Tights will have to come off!

Maddaman · 16/01/2018 21:27

Nicknacky, sorry it was mentioned in another comment. But I definitely agree about the layers thing.

Id just wear some trakkies with no cord and tee-shirt with a non zip jumper. Perhaps as OP is a lady, might get away with leggins under the trackies and maybe a vest top too lol

Ayeee after all I'm only making assumptions based on my experience. I'm not a police officer and I'm certainly no expert.

LG93 · 16/01/2018 21:29

I don't really have much useful to add but try not to worry op - I hope all goes ok xx

Maddaman · 16/01/2018 21:29

Perhaps Sussex police are quite friendly after all ahaha

Ellapaella · 16/01/2018 21:29

Custody offices are predominantly civilians Well I'm confused. I'm fairly certain custody officers are not civilians and are usually at least the rank of Sargent in the police force. Speaking as someone who knows two custody officers they are both definitely police! Is is different in Scotland?

Notevilstepmother · 16/01/2018 21:31

I used to visit custody sometimes and as long as you are not being a pain or an idiot the staff were generally kind and it won’t be as bad as you think. Better to hand yourself in a get it over and done with. I don’t think they’ll let you wear tights because of strangulation risk.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 21:31

There is a uniformed custody Sgt. in charge of the custody suite but the rest of the staff are civilians unless there is sickness/annual leave etc and then they are covered by cops.

Notevilstepmother · 16/01/2018 21:32

Maybe it’s different in Scotland? I know it’s police in England.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 21:33

I have taken my tights off and put on an extra pair of socks just to be on the safe side.

No point us all arguing about this, if it is cold then I will ask for extra blankets.

Redglitter · 16/01/2018 21:34

Yes it's different in Scotland. There's a duty officer who's a Sgt & then custody officers who are civilian staff. It's always been tgat way. Can't remember their official title now but they used to be turnkeys

SimonBridges · 16/01/2018 21:34

Having to spend a night in the cells sounds dreadfully harsh for what you have done.

ItsNachoCheese · 16/01/2018 21:34

Good luck op

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 21:35

PCSO's now

Gwenhwyfar · 16/01/2018 21:36

"gwen are you confusing a police cell with a hotel? I think you need to thinkmof the reasons why those procedures are in place."

It's not the 19th Century. Someone in a police cell is not yet convicted and and shouldn't be punished in such draconian ways.
Why can't she have tights on FFS?

Redglitter · 16/01/2018 21:36

Thanks Nicknacky I didn't want to add to the confusion by getting the initials wrong

Snowdrop18 · 16/01/2018 21:37

OP you poor thing and what a complete waste of police time and resources!

TheMamaYo · 16/01/2018 21:37

That sounds rather harsh. Good luck, hope you're ok.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/01/2018 21:37

Custody suites are, ime*, really warm but you can ask for a blanket if you are cold. Wear thick socks because they will probably remove your shoes. Take a book with you and ask if you can have it in the cell. Don't bother with the tea, it's rank, but the hot chocolate is usually quite nice. The food will be microwave ready meals which aren't very tasty but you can ask for cereal bars instead.

*not a habitual criminal, but an independent custody visitor.

Redglitter · 16/01/2018 21:37

Why can't she have tights on FFS?

Because they can be used as a ligature

squiddled · 16/01/2018 21:37

You're likely to receive a caution. If they do decide to charge you it's almost certain you won't receive more than a short suspended sentence and possibly a fine and/or community service. Failing to show for jury duty is contempt of court - they don't give out custodians for it usually.

Maddaman · 16/01/2018 21:37

Wear thick socks. No shoes allowed In the cells. Nicknacky reckons ull have to lose the tights but I'd say risk it personally if u have to lose them u have to if not then bonus layer Grin

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 21:38

Yes I am ok thanks, just hope the whole processing thing doesnt take too long.

OP posts:
Gwenhwyfar · 16/01/2018 21:38

Cross posted with tights and suicide risk. Thin trousers underneath then?

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 21:38

gwen can you honestly not think of one reason why a person in a police cell shouldn't have tights in their possession?!
