Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

Thanks for starting a new thread Stoma!

I sometimes wonder if we're wasting our breath? Do you think our truths are making any dents?

Trulywonderful · 02/01/2024 22:35

Thank you sto 😁

Nothing wrong with your introduction and lets face it mine would have been too an essay probably

We could start with a couple of quotes from a sadly lost old friend of my family, may his memory be blessed

Just noticed your message. See the quote I posted under it and I must have been doing that post as you wrote yours.

Maybe if you are religious you will believe someone is trying to tell us something or if like myself not religious you may see it as serendipity that is telling us to continue

We have made some posters think a bit more about things. Shown some falsehood and misinformation up for what it is. Highlighted some of the Jew hate in the UK and around the world. Yes I think we have made a dent but if it is enough even on just mumsnet I don't know. However I started posting on mumsnet again in October to do just what we are doing because I knew from the covid days this was going to be a shit show again.

Trulywonderful · 02/01/2024 22:48

The second quote. Which I had already downloaded onto my phone and after untitledmum's post seems fitting too

Mumsnet could do better (part deux)
untitledmum · 02/01/2024 22:53

@Trulywonderful Thanks for these quotes, they're very profound.
I wonder if at this point, by responding and debating, we are encouraging them to post harder. You know, its no fun without a fight.
What do you think?

Trulywonderful · 02/01/2024 23:00

@25milesfromhome

Oh yes I do remember giving someone new year advice now you mention it. However I don't remember it being particularly mean or anything. Just a sentence saying reflect and behave better in 2024 type thing. Suppose with my new year image about Hamas it probably looked like I was saying that person supported Hamas. Which actually I wasn't at the time. I just had not thought about others making that connection, else I would have made two separate posts.

Your post is still standing two hours later, I take it they haven't banned you or anything either. To be honest with the last post on that thread it puts people spying on us in a difficult mental place about whether to report posts or not now.

Humdingerydoo · 02/01/2024 23:00

I think posting sometimes feels pointless as you so clearly won't change other active posters' minds, but try to remember that you might still influence those who just lurk. That's important too. They're the silent majority.

Yes think for some it is like that for sure

Though I get the impression in the last few days because it has been so quite on the threads that they are running out of people to argue with. A lot of us don't bother with the main conflict threads. Therefore two things are happening.

One we get the odd invader shouting about genocide on antisemitism or other threads that are not about the conflict itself.

Two we have people that were posting horrific things about Jewish people or denying antisemitism is a problem a few weeks ago. Suddenly decide to be more friendly and start posting things that sound reasonable. There are two ways of thinking about this some people could have calmed down a lot now the board is not a wash with arguments. Therefore had time to actually look at our posts and see we real are not child killers or whatever else they thought. The other way of thinking about it is this is just some people using a new tactic to try and fool people. I have no idea which one it is and think probably it is down to which user we are looking at.

Anyway I am going along with the ones that are behaving better because frankly that makes life easier. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. The invaders sometimes worth tackling and sometimes not, when on antisemitism or other threads not the main conflict debate threads. However personally I give the main threads a wide birth because it just gets some people excited to argue with us. Plus it bumps up often iffy echo chamber threads. However I appreciate people keeping the more iffy posters busy on those. It stops them invading other threads.

Edited

Yes exactly this

I get a fair few of those silent thanks that you can click when I kick someone's butt for posting Jew hate stuff or misinformation. These are often from usernames I have never seen posting on that board. Also once in a while someone does pop on a thread and say they normally only read threads but wanted to thank everyone for talking about whatever .......

So definitely a lot of users read the board but don't post on it.

stomachameleon · 03/01/2024 00:01

To be fair at the moment someone is running amok (new poster) calling all the main players morons. I take it they won't be with us long :)

@Trulywonderful We’ve moved on so I guess there’s no point in them exercising their pettiness where no-one will see it.

Anyway, soulless Zionist sociopath checking in!

Trulywonderful · 03/01/2024 02:19

Glad your not banned and have checked in you SZS

@MissConductUS

Hope* *you find us here

Hopefully everyone else will find us this week too. So we are all able to B supportive of each other. Just like some of us were during covid 😁

I found just now a lovely thank you message you sent me two years ago

MissConductUS · 03/01/2024 09:51

@Trulywonderful, thanks so much for tagging me to make sure I found the thread. I was wondering if someone would start a part two.

PurpleChrayne · 03/01/2024 11:08

@Trulywonderful what a blessing to have been friends with Rabbi Sacks ZT"L!

My DH is currently working his way through his books, and we printed out some of his quotes for our sukkah.

I find some of his quotes really touch my emotions about being Jewish and just how I think about life in general

It goes to show you don't have to be religious to get something out of his words

Hope you are doing well and have a good 2024 xxxx

Just your being here is enough ❤

Trulywonderful · 03/01/2024 13:16

So last night/early hours of the morning I was looking for something in my messages. I don't use the private messages are a general rule but there was something I remembered from a couple of years ago and wanted to find it.

Anyway as a scolled back through the names and I started to notice a few names from two years ago that I recognise on that board now. I opened the messages and it was interesting to see them personality wise as someone different than we have been seeing on that board.

Yes different people agree on different things and not on others. However the messages were like from completely different people not really sure what this says about them or us but thought I would share that. Maybe it just says something about how I am reading messages and posts.

I didn't join the other thread because I don't like ruminating over negatives. Life is tough enough right now without dwelling on haters. That's not to say I ignore anti-semitism. I'm a shalliach in my own way and I call it out when I see it.

I'm also not saying that the previous thread was negative - I didn't read it. Just saying what I felt and why I didn't even lurk.

I was given this book by a non-Jewish associate, a practicing Christian, as it happens, when he realised that our values aligned. He wanted to share the book because he loved it and found it hugely insightful. As you can see, I do too!

I'd like to share another inspiring person, another Rabbi Jonathan: Rabbi Jonathan Romain. Not a quotation, but an attitude. If he believes something is the right thing to do for the community - any community - he will go ahead and do it. He won't worry whether enough people will come to make it 'worth his while'. I find his lack of fear of what others might think, do, or not do, this lack of need to justify his actions to anyone except to his conscience, inspiring.

Thanks for starting this thread @stomachameleon.

Today is the first birthday of the youngest hostage, Kfir Bibas, the little ginger baby who was abducted with his mother and brother. I hope and pray that they are together and safe and will be returned home soon

stomachameleon · 03/01/2024 17:33

@gingergran that's so sad. Makes you stop and think again.
