Ok I have taken the bait because I think it's important we have somewhere to chat and decompress.

There is an awful lot of name changing going on and we must remember that although it should be, this is not a safe space. We are followed here and that is worth considering (especially if you don't want to be deleted)

I am grateful for all the love and support though and I thank each and every one of you. You are all stronger than you know. I wish I had something profound to say but I don't...: this will have to do!

Did you get an....ahem.....interesting email from MN about it?

No, nothing! I only noticed because I'd bookmarked the post next to it.

Did you? <intrigued>

Yeah, I got one today so a day after. They say they've "been getting reports about your posts on Mumsnet".

So, multiple lurkers. Clearly, they like to dish it out but can't take it themselves.

I simply told them to ask themselves why they're letting certain people into this section when it's supposed to be a safe space for Jewish people and their allies.

Not expecting a reply.

Wow. And yes, an excellent question.

I said this on the earlier version of this thread but am going to repeat it here as MN ignored me:@mnhq @justinemumsnet your moderators urgently need some antisemitism awareness training as the way those boards (and, it turns out, this one) are being moderated is awful.

stomachameleon · 07/01/2024 17:40

You have to go out of your way to look for this though...

I know, it doesn't even show up in active conversations. Very strange to seek out this board and sit there reporting posts on what is clearly a friendly conversation.

What do the three permitted Jewish phrases mean @quantumbutterfly ?

EllaDisenchanted · 07/01/2024 18:30

the last one I know - It means stupid university 😂

EllaDisenchanted · 07/01/2024 18:31

Lechem Chavita - omelette bread. Shlufim I am looking up

EllaDisenchanted · 07/01/2024 18:32

hehe found an article on it: “Shlufim,” which are tiny notes for cheating on tests...... At the end of the video, the logo of Yale University is shown, instead of reading “tachat veplutzim,” translating to “Butt and Farts.”

I am actually quite surprised that this is Yale's logo. Also it is exceptionally irritating that each word is split on two lines. What is that all about?!

Absurd my post above has been deleted. No matter.

You know that thread doesn't have serious posters when you see them saying that Israel must be demilitarised alongside any Palestinian State. 🤦‍♂️

Nope, that's not how it works or will work. Especially not when Iran has its proxies such as Hezbollah along Israel's borders.

Far easier to completely demilitarise Palestinians than Israelis and Arab States like Egypt and Saudi Arabia wouldn't fancy their chances at trying to force Israel to demilitarise. 🤦‍♂️

There isn't really a political AND military history minded poster in that thread.

@DownNative indeed.

I've been trying to hold the fort too but my castle keeps being stormed.

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 07/01/2024 21:18

Thanks for the Hebrew translations!

Humdingerydoo · 07/01/2024 22:01

I was going to comment on one of the threads but it now has people saying Israel is possibly going to lose the war because of how many losses they've had and how many tanks have been blown up by both Hamas and Hezbollah. People are literally believing terrorist propaganda about how well they're doing 🙈 So I'm staying out of it. It's too absurd.

How many Israeli security force members do they believe have been killed?

British Army lost more than Israel currently has due to terrorists during Operation Banner, but that accounted for just 0.5% of their total personnel.

State Security forces always lose personnel in conflicts, but rarely lose so many against terrorist groups that they go on to lose the conflict.

Hamas is a terrorist group best described asca small army. It doesn't have the capability to defeat the Israel Defence Force outright.

EllaDisenchanted · 07/01/2024 22:18

@Humdingerydoo I also read that. It feels like it is the secret (or not so secret) wish of so many people. I have so many responses, but in the end does it matter? I know exactly how many losses there have been, I read every one of those names when they are released for publication, day in, day out, cried over so many of them. DH went to some of the local funerals. One soldier who died recently lives in the building next door, his wife is due imminently, she has a toddler. Today a 19 year old soldier died. I don't even know whether to say woman or girl.

If Chas v'Shalom Hamas were to win, or if Hezbollah were to win, you can be sure there would be precisely as many Jews in Israel as there were in Gaza on October 6th.

I don't know @DownNative , I stopped reading the posts after a while. It is clearly a pointless thread to be commenting on or reading. It's seemingly not sustainable peace people want but rather revenge. They want the (Iran-backed) underdog to fight back and win the battle and the war. From the river to the sea and all that jazz.

Feels like that to me right now. Finding it depressing to be honest. I don't know how people keep commenting. I start to write and just give up.

For all their talk of a ceasefire, they all seem pretty keen on this escalating into a conflict where others enter the war and defeat Israel.

"We just want a ceasefire " indeed. Yes and for Israel to be obliterated.

Watch this post get reported by lurkers and deleted.

Humdingerydoo · 07/01/2024 22:50

@EllaDisenchanted

It's a common MO of the more openly hostile Arab nations - displace people within Israel so they're an economic burden to society. One of the reasons they told the Muslim population to leave Israel during what became known as the Nakba* is because they were hoping that by people leaving their jobs, farms etc it would help to cause an economic crisis in the new state of Israel.

When that failed, Iraq doubled down and kicked Jews out and sent them to Israel so Israel would end up with a refugee crisis. Again, didn't quite work out as planned and the Jews who remained in Iraq suffered as a result.

And now they're trying it again, this time by internally displacing Israelis.

*For the lurkers out there, don't worry - I'm not suggesting all displacement during the Nakba happened like this. It was just one of the more significant contributing factors to the awful mass displacement that occurred. I'm not denying that many, many others were displaced due to grotesque violence.
