here

Not a good advertisement for the rehabilitation programme they went on. I did hear that it was in Ireland and he tried to strangle a girlfriend..........but obviously that is not based on any factual evidence, just internet gossip.

Anyhow, difficult difficult difficult

I wonder if any details of the breech will be released.
I would imagine the terms of his licence were very strict.

I did hear that of the two, Thompson's rehabilitation had been more successful.

wannaBe · 02/03/2010 21:51

nobody knows or is likely to know what he has done - if anything.

Breach of his conditions could be as insignifficant as not being in a certain place when required to be.

And given the details are never going to be released there's not much point gettin out the pitchforks.

Mongolia · 02/03/2010 21:56

I was posting the link and a comment in the thread about the Doncaster boys, but at the ended erased it, as I didn't know what he did (another murder or perhaps he failed to meet with the parole officer or something like that?).

In the Doncaster boys thread there was long debate about the question whether people who commit such crimes can really be rehabilitated, if there have been another serious incident here, I guess that we can assume that no matter the amount of resources that are spent in putting a life "right", such rehab can also fail.

Waiting to see what happened

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 02/03/2010 21:58

That's what I was getting at when I said the conditions of his licence will be strict, wannaBe, with such a serious and high profile case the smallest breech would result in his rearrest I would imagine.

Definitely no pitchfork in my possession.

2shoes · 02/03/2010 21:59

bit of a non story really, personally I hope he stays in prison, but doubt if he will.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 02/03/2010 22:05

I am hoping that a tiny misdemeanour has caused him to be arrested and that his rehabilitation has been generally successful.

Dreadful to imagine that he is no different now than at the time of his crime.

ChickensHaveSinisterMotives · 02/03/2010 22:20

Agree 2shoes. It makes a good headline, but there is no substance to the story. I wonder who benefits from knowing this information.

Mongolia · 02/03/2010 22:26

Nobody benefits, but it is the same as with that TV presenter who died yesterday, we don't what has happened but the news are out. I guess they are preparing the ground for the big (or small) news coming out in the following days.

wannaBe · 02/03/2010 22:26

suspect that it was going to be broken in a paper or perhaps on the internet hence the need to publish the story iyswim.

ChickensHaveSinisterMotives · 02/03/2010 22:28

Ah, I see. I was under the impression though that they aren't allowed to give any more information.

Mongolia · 02/03/2010 22:34

That may well be the case, if there is a court case coming.

JollyPirate · 03/03/2010 07:03

Just seen this - no real depth to this story it's a breach of his conditions which could mean anything.

Flightattendant · 03/03/2010 07:14

How do you rehabilitate a sociopathic child though? I have no idea. You can't implant the missing pathways in someone's brain, so it must be a learned behavioural system...which obviously is easy peasy to break.

Elsewhere · 03/03/2010 09:40

Why were they released - surely they should be in prison for life.

2shoes · 03/03/2010 09:48

some thing to do with thier human rights

ilovemydogandmrobama · 03/03/2010 09:55

More to do with a worldwide injunction

2shoes · 03/03/2010 09:56

no that is why they can't be idetified, not why they were let out so early

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 03/03/2010 09:57

There was a rumour going around a few years ago that one of them moved to Australia and had gotten married.
How would you feel though (if it was true) to find out that the person you were married to had been a child murderer??

2shoes · 03/03/2010 10:02

i was wondering that earlier.
seems to me they are protected but thier partners/family arn't

DuelingFanjo · 03/03/2010 10:09

How the Hell did the press get to know about this, poor bloke.

here's hoping that it's something very minor and he is back out to carry on with his life soon.

wannaBe · 03/03/2010 10:13

they were released because at the time of the murder they were ten year old children. And as horrific as their crime was, one would hope that we do not live in a society that condemns ten year old children for the rest of their lives without the possibility of rehabilitation.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 03/03/2010 10:13

Think the Justice Secretary released it as a matter of public interest which doesn't infringe the injunction.

No doubt there will be applications at the High Court to revoke the injunction, but now will (probably) involve other innocent parties.

ClaireDeLoon · 03/03/2010 10:16

Reading paper this morning it suggested it isn't likely to be a minor breach because putting him back in prison will destroy his new identity and would not be something done lightly. That's what they were suggesting in the Indie anyway.

wannaBe · 03/03/2010 10:16

ilovemydog it said on sky news that the justice secretary released the info because of a leak somewhere in the press.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 03/03/2010 10:17

'How would you feel though (if it was true) to find out that the person you were married to had been a child murderer?'

Obviously I can't answer that accurately unless I had direct experience of a situation.
I suspect I would feel very differently if they had murdered a child when they were an adult. However a crime they had committed as a 10 yo might have a slightly different reaction.

If they have indeed been successfully rehabilitated then their current partner may know them as a kind responsible man and find it hard to associate the crime committed with the man they know.

If we are going to release them, the only option available is to closely guard their identity.
They would need constant police protection otherwise and would have no hope of a normal existence.
