Hi, to make it easier for people who are finding this subject very distressing, we're going to keep all Baby P posts in one thread. If you'd like to discuss this subject, then here is the thread to do so. We'll go on the other threads and link to this one. Thanks very much.

OP posts:

Ahh, so you're into killing rather than just beating.

I believe the statement about a society being judged by the way it treats it's prisoners. When the state starts sanctioning beating and / or killing I think we will really lose hope.

I like that Oscar Wilde quote - "One is absolutely sickened, not by the crimes that the wicked have committed, but by the punishment that the good have inflicted."

Gateau · 17/11/2008 15:35

I'not @into it@ no. I don't get excited about it, as you and others might infer. I see it as just punishment and believe in 'an eye for an eye.'

Gateau · 17/11/2008 15:36

I meant I'm not 'into it' as you put it.

Gateau · 17/11/2008 15:37

I think Oscar Wilde is talking shite there, by the way. So he wouldn't have been sickened by what happened to Baby P and countless other innocents like him? Weird.

FairLadyRantALot · 17/11/2008 15:40

Capital punishment is dangerous ground to get into....
the whole beyond reasonable doubt ting...etc...afterall, I suppose you can't make it right if you got it wrong ther first time round....which means very very long postponement of the punichment, anyway....i.e. the drain on teh system would be equally or even worse...if you think of all those extra process costs that will come with that, aswell, the time of imprisonment, etc...

but that is neither here nor there, anyway....really!

LittleBella · 17/11/2008 15:40

Yes he would have been sickened by it.

He would also have been sickened by some of the stupid and inhumane reactions to it.

Gateau · 17/11/2008 15:41

WAS talking shite, I meant.
I usually respect what the man said, too.

LouieStrumpet · 17/11/2008 15:42

But will capital punishment deter people from killing their children?

In my home country they have banned smacking, but it doesn't stop people from beating their children, if you see the analogy.

In fact right now we have a case going on that is almost identical to Baby P's, but the people involved have been charged with murder and manslaughter, that serves as much more justice that "causing or allowing a child to die."

hullygully · 17/11/2008 15:44

I am just so so so sad.

Killing is too good for them. I am sick of killers not being killed. If more people were killed there might be a bit less killing and abit more love.

FairLadyRantALot · 17/11/2008 15:45

There was a case here, not that long ago...well, it was in the papers in the beginning of the year, as the court had sentenced the guilty party, and he was rightly charged for murder, and got life imprisonment....and I believe it was said that life will mean life (however, I might got that part wrong)...

lulumama · 17/11/2008 15:45

because of course, in countries where there is capital punishment, there are no murders . and when britain had the death penalty, there were no murders.

your last sentence is totally ludicrous, are you actually serious that more killing would be beneficial to society?

LouieStrumpet · 17/11/2008 15:46

Are you serious hullygully?

Do you realise what you have written?

Bucharest · 17/11/2008 15:48

"If more people were killed there might be a bit less killing and abit more love. "

That would be risible were it not so tragic.

hullygully · 17/11/2008 15:49

Fair lady - I saw that case as well. I thought they said life only meant life if he stayed alive and didn't get a serious illness like that case the other day where they let him out - probably so he could killsomeone else before he died.

CrushWithEyeliner · 17/11/2008 15:51

Please let's not turn this into an insulting slanging match.

Can everyone just have respect for others reactions and challenge them without the vitriol? This case is so horrific I think it has understandably provoked some very extreme reactions.

Boco · 17/11/2008 15:51

"If more people were killed there might be a bit less killing and abit more love. "

If this is not a joke then it's by far the most totally insane thing I've read on mn.

LouieStrumpet · 17/11/2008 15:53

Ditto Boco

FairLadyRantALot · 17/11/2008 15:55

hullygully, teh case I am talking about happened in Kettering...the guy had severely abused a tiny Baby and she died just over 50days old...it was a very sad case...

FairLadyRantALot · 17/11/2008 15:56

I must admit, I can't see the logic, neither....ow would there be less killings? And how would there be more Love?

BetteNoire · 17/11/2008 15:57

"Killing is too good for them".
Alf Garnet would bloody love you.

Gateau · 17/11/2008 15:58

Yes, funny line all right; it anything can be funny in this horrific case.

FairLadyRantALot · 17/11/2008 15:58

Also, surely a lot of crimes are, I believe, committed by people that were themselfs victims of crimes (i.e. abused/neglected, etc...)....so why would such a person deserve to die....of course that person would be wrong to kill/abuse or whatever...but surely they themselves had been let down when they were in need of help?

And, yes, it's a generalisation, and not ALL people committing crime come from abused/neglected Backgrounds...

Gateau · 17/11/2008 16:00

There is a special program eon Panoram tonight about the case - I WON'T be watching it. I have heard the mimimum about the injuries - accidentally - and I can't bear to hear any more.
I saw another pic of him on the BBC website today and I can't believe how much like my DS he is. It's striking.
Poor little lamb. He's at peace now.

thought processes like that is why the general public should not be allowed access to information about where sex offenders reside
