Absolutely shocking attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall North Manchester. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected by this terrible atrocity.

I have only seen an outpouring of grief, prayers and saying how wrong it was. That's from the local Muslim community and the the wider ones I've heard of.

I guess there will be some groups (Muslim and non Muslim) who think that all Jewish people should be held accountable for what Israel is doing but I suspect it's a very small number and not any I've seen or heard.

I live in the area though, so may be people wouldn't say it around here?

Why were there marches today?

All I can say is that I certainly don’t whitewash Hamas.
7th October was despicable, horrible, fucking awful. What is happening in Gaza right now, ditto.
What I really can’t get my head around is anyone in the UK equating the actions of a government thousands of miles away with British Jewish citizens.
That anyone would do that is beyond me.

For many people, that is the whole point. They detest Israel precisely because it is the one and only Jewish state. They march 'for Palestine' but really they are marching 'against Israel' - against its existence (not every marcher, but plenty of them), against its people - who are mostly Jews.

Consequently, they don't make much of division between 'Israelis' and 'Jews'.

So obviously, in that mindset, British Jews are fair game.

Today has shocked and horrified me, but I am not surprised - even though I hoped that nothing like this would ever happen in the UK. Ever since those young men drove around North London shouting 'Kaybar, kaybar' and all the rest of it out of their windows and were not prosecuted, I've felt that something is going very wrong in our society.

EdithStourton · 02/10/2025 21:11

I think it goes deeper than that.
There seems to be a very deliberate narrative being pushed that Israel is a nation of terrible people, and that what is happening in Gaza is totally unrelated to what any of the people in Gaza have done. It's as if 'ordinary Gazans' didn't cheer the dead body of Shani Louk. (Which is not to say that every Gazan supports Hamas - but a lot of them seem to.)

By these means, many people are turned against Israel, especially young people. Give it 20 years, and they'll be in positions of power. And in the short term, it makes Gaza a political cause which will put the frighteners on various politicians.

Hamas has won the propaganda war.

It absolutely blows my mind that no other conflict attracts the interest, rage, activism and energy that this one does.

It shows the power of SM and MSM. We need to act fast now. We need tv programs showing the terrible way women are treated in Gaza, journalists investigating how gays are tortured and murdered..We need honest discussions about Islamic ideology, where it came from and the purpose behind its creation.

We need schools to be teaching about the abhorrent treatment of Jews throughout history and why Israel restored Jews back to the area from where Judaism started and’s from where they were exiled.

This government needs to be countering false information every turn. We need tk ensure our children are educated about anti semitism and to do that people need to own their own anti semitism

i promise you that if you haven’t noticed the Palestinian protests straying into antisemitism you just aren’t paying attention. Pages of posts here and not one from a Jewish person saying everything has been a ok lately.

I also have yet to come across these mythical Jewish anti Israel protestors. I’m sure they must exists as I keep hearing about them but they’re certainly keeping quiet!

PraisebetoGod · 02/10/2025 21:29

Jihad al Shamie is the name of the terrorist.

His name is actually Jihad. You can't make this up.

gorlomi · 02/10/2025 21:30

His parents seriously called him, 'Jihad'? Awful

Who were the other 10%?

Do some research - is it really relevant?

PraisebetoGod · 02/10/2025 21:33

Israeli Channel 12 reports that the Israeli assessment is that Hamas ordered the terrorist attack against the synagogue in Manchester.

MookieCat · 02/10/2025 21:33

I am just jumping in quickly then will go back and read the thread. I said in my earlier post that I am a member of a very small, Jewish community where i live. Nowhere near any synagogue. Our local police rang our community head this afternoon and asked us if we were having a service today and if we wanted them to come and stand outside while we did so. I cannot tell you how much we all appreciated that outreach. In fact it's fair to say that we shed more than a few tears.

I didn't say you did!

However, I do wince a bit at you using "ditto" re 7/10 and Israel's response to it. To my eye, there is nothing "ditto" about that.

Since you and I see things differently, maybe you don't perceive a strong pro-Hamas agenda here in the UK that encourages the vilification of Israel and promotes hatred of Jewish people everywhere. It has been allowed to fester and even flaunt itself openly. Its goals are pretty clear, yet it's managed to garner plenty of support with apparently little effort. For example, all those people happy to be arrested in support of Palestine Action (despite the co-founder giving a speech on 8 Oct 2023 praising the Hamas attacks! I'm not sure how much more blatant it needs to be!)... cloaking it all, of course, with moral posturing about civil liberties. Also, for example, this:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/10/02/police-allow-pro-palestine-protest-terror-attack-trains/

I mean who the fuck are these people? What do they think they're playing at?

There are the Rivkah Brown types. The Gilad Atzmons. Tbf.

Ihatetomatoes · 02/10/2025 21:37

What a vile individual. This is what is marching. I'd be disgusted if this was my child, wishing death on people. She should be arrested but hatred towards Jewish people is pretty normal.

The UK has got to sort this out, quickly.

PraisebetoGod · 02/10/2025 21:40

Jihad Al Shami literally means Jihad from Syria. He was Syrian, likely a former asylum seeker. We are importing and paying for our own murderers.

Sick, vile hate filled individuals. Arrest the lot of them. They dont hold any moral high ground. They are vile creatures.

The Palestinian Action lot, headed by a man who cheers October 7th, breathe sheep like followers with the silly chants completely captured. Cult like in their gatherings.

No, I didn’t reply to any of your posts. You kept posting me and I eventually replied.

Well that's a contradiction...

You were arguing with numerous posters that there was no proof it was an Islamist terror attack. In my second response to you where I said it was confirmed it was you responded to me about the dangers of Southport etc and asked who has confirmed it etc. I then posted a link for you. You ignored that, as I said no one was surprised.

What are you on about? Your first three posts to me had no links (see attached). You kept inserting yourself into my conversation with someone else hours ago who said it was confirmed as Islamist, and then admitted it wasn’t. So wait for the actual conformation, which has now been posted.

Look at what’s happening on this thread. Muslims being accused of celebrating in the streets, with no evidence. Pro-Israel posters saying all criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic.

So, yes, people do need to be reminded to not posts assumptions as facts.

Why are you ignoring the fact I linked an article that said it was an islamist attack? @nomas What are you on about? Why have you come onto a thread like this to argue with loads of posters? What do you want?

Why were you telling me this though? I didn't post it was an islamist attack until it was confirmed.

You’ve posted repeated lies:

  1. that I was the one who replied to you, when it was actually you inserting yourself into my posts to someone else
  2. That you posted a link to me in your second post to me. I have attached your first three posts, none of which had links. I responded to you after your third post.

Why do you persist in denying this?

Why stir with misinformation. Lies to create more unrest.

News says ‘a British citizen of Syrian descent’. No mention of him being an asylum seeker at this point.

So unless you actually know him, you are stirring.

Oh @nomasjust wants to make sure you don’t jump to any far-fetched conclusions. He or she will probably want confirmation that even though the murderer’s name was Jihad, and he was killing Jews at a synagogue on their holiest day, using typical methods for Islamic terrorism, we can’t actually be certain his intentions were in any way anti-Semitic until ‘officially confirmed’ 🙄 just an assumption, you see.

I am so disgusted by some people today. For trying to make this about Israel, for pretending it might not have been Islamist terrorism, for spontaneously setting up a march about that fucking idiotic flotilla to detract from the murder of Jews. I feel sickened by how unsafe it is for Jewish people and how unworthy of respect some people think they are.

But then I was also really heartened to read the post from a Jewish woman about the police support to her local community though. That was great to hear. And the police did an incredible job with their response. I am incredibly grateful for their quick action.
