Absolutely shocking attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall North Manchester. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected by this terrible atrocity.

Is this really the time or place for such dog whistles? Is Israel ever marching on behalf of anyone else? Maybe it's time to shut the computer for today.

Yes, Israelis march on behalf of others. Here's one example if it helps https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/thousands-march-in-tel-aviv-against-russian-invasion-of-ukraine-israels-lackluster-response/

They have also been known to march against China's treatment of Uyghurs, Qatar and their exploitation of migrant workers etc. It's quite common in a democracy for people to go on demonstrations.

My heart is breaking for the Jewish community in Manchester. I used to live there, this was my local synagogue. It's completely unreal, and I'm still waiting to hear back from my friends if their families are all ok.

Why did you need to say?

@gorlomibecause some people have actual sympathy for the victims. You clearly don’t, and you and @nomasseem to be solely focused on ensuring that we don’t prematurely blame Islamist terrorism for this - it’s fairly obvious that’s exactly what it is was. Your contributions to this thread are pretty appalling. I’d suggest having more sympathy for the victims but it would clearly be wasted on you.

Clearly not true, videos would be all over X if that was true.

Not necessarily - religious Jewish people attending synagogue today would not have had their phones on them.

If you'd read my posts you would have seen me call the press cowardly for not say it was an Islamic attack.

the candle lighting comment was because I can't stand performative grief / virtue signalling. But I probably should have said anything - for that I'm sorry.

This is horrific. My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. I suspect this is politically motivated. I wish people would realise that not all Jewish people are zionists. Pray for peace. This barbarism doesn’t belong on our streets.

Good Lord.
What you seem to be saying is that it is okay to kill Zionists. Is that what you meant to say?

In fairness the type of moron who would do this would very likely film it themselves for TikTok clout.

Thank you. I will.

Nothing on this thread is as ugly and political pointscoring as the ghouls who have gone on the pro-hamas marches today. So equivocating scolds need to wind their necks in.

Well, you’re wrong. My responses on the thread were solely about the horror of the attack.

It’s only when Beach said it was confirmed in the media as Islamist terror that I questioned that.

There’s no need to present assumptions as reported facts.

You are another like Beach making assumptions.

As the police shooting has been filmed, so would cars of Muslims celebrating have been if it was true.

EsmaCannonball · 02/10/2025 19:37

I honestly feel so ashamed of the UK's attitude to Jewish people and Israel right now and would like to completely disavow it. I don't think it's most of the British people, but is it the most vocal; Keir Starmer, the government, the omnicause celebrities, the pro-Hamas marchers.

I've also noticed an uptick in 'If you see something suspicious, report it' posters where I live in the last fortnight or so. Along with the planned Hamas attacks that were prevented in Germany, something is telling me we could be in for a nasty festive period (or, at least, that is what the intelligence is warning). We need a government that puts British security interests first and doesn't estrange us from our allies, i.e. Israel, in order to appease a fifth column for its own petty party-political interests.

Time for MN to pull this thread.

Innocent British citizens were murdered in cold blood today. People who were visiting their place of worship and welcoming the Jewish New Year.

It's so sad that Palestine supporters would want use this space for their political agenda.

I hope not. Posters earlier have expressed their fears and got support from many.

I don’t know about cars of Muslims celebrating but it seems there’s a pro Palestine rally taking place in Parliament Square as we speak, also one in Manchester - on the same day! At least after October 7th, they didn’t all get together to support and celebrate “Palestine” till the day after the attacks I guess…

Beachtastic · 02/10/2025 19:39

Nothing happens unless it's flaunted on X/Insta/YouTube for our gratuitous entertainment, sure.

Just to get back to the thread, to those Jewish people who are emerging from Yom Kippur to see this news for the first time, my heart goes out to you and I know I am not the only one to be sickened by the insistence on "a balanced perspective" (which, in reality, is quite the opposite) in the face of such atrocities.

If anything good comes out of this, I hope it is that people can no longer go on pretending that antisemitism in the UK does not present a real and present danger.

Comefromaway · 02/10/2025 19:39

It wouldn’t be be difficult to find videos of cars driven by Muslims with loud music blaring in Manchester. It happens every day as a regular occurrence, been caught in the traffic many a time.

There will always undoubtedly be Hamas supporters who are celebrating today as there always are supporters of various terrorist organisations who celebrate after an atrocity. other members of those communities however will be horrified.

clipboardz · 02/10/2025 19:43

Why was there a spontaneous march for Palestine today? Read the room!

If I drew up a Venn diagram of those who claim that "nothing is worth promoting hatred over" in order to deflect from the fact that Islamism within Muslim communities is a problem in the UK......and those who point out that Islamism is hatred of everything " haram" and even not.....

I know that there would be a significant non overlap as the deflectors seem so shy in stepping on the toes of Islam in a way that they are not with any other religion.

And no, " Islamophobia" is not the same as racism.
It would only be in the same ball park if being Muslim was not a choice ( as those who break their necks claiming that the words " forced" and " Islam/Muslim" have no relation to their one another do) and physiologically inate ( like race and sexual orientation).

And if racism did not exist within Muslim communities like it does in every other in the world.
The day that Islam outside of Islamic countries can withstand the disrespect and apathy that other religions have to withstand is the day so many look forward to.

This neo Crusade carry on when the majority of Islamic countries are dodgepots is high fuckry.
And communities trying to bring the same " back home" that they fled from to nations that culture wise are pretty much opposite and socially secular outside one's home and place of worship is a piss take considering fifty and forty years ago , the majority of their home nations managed to be Muslim despite dressing Western and not being so hypocritically pious.
Similarly, I went to a school where the largest non White Brit group was Pakistani/Indian and Bengali Muslim.
No performative praying, nothing about needing time and space to pray , not one hijab, one's dietary restrictions due to religion was one's responsibility, no policing of anybody's piety and outside of school, the Sari was worn by the Sikh, Hindu AND Muslim elder women related to our South Asian classmates (I went to Langdon Secondary in East Ham when I lived with my mother between 12-17 yrs before running back to the far more then popping Peckham).

No other " ethnic" group would be allowed to be so censorious and defensive if so much terrorism and hate was being perpetrated both on its behalf and by too many of its members and affecting so many not belonging to the group, most of which claim their first and premium loyalty is to the God they pray to and not even each other.

So please stop with the relativism today of all days.

It was not Jews driving cars through Muslim communities country wide , brandishing Star of Davids and shouting anti Islam/ Muslim slogans when Hamas and complicit Gazans committed the worst anti Jewish atrocity since the Holocaust on 7/10/23 thousands of miles away from the UK, in Israel.
Jews have been forced teamed by Muslims and anti Zionists pertaining to the Hamas attack, since the beginning.
But sly wretches want to jump offended when people associate Islam/Muslims/ anti Zionists/ "Pro Palestinians" with , if not Jew hatred, at least overwhelming apathy pertaining to the Jew hatred that comes from MANY MANY quarters of these specific groups.
I remember the bishes on this female centred website practically climbing over their one another to minimise the rapes of Jewish women on the CITME section of Mumsnet.

I also remember the other set of bishes who tried to cloak Hamas operatives in honour as " benign" kidnappers because the very first batch of released hostages looked fed and watered.

And now they are on this thread trying to police the grief and fear as if the cause of this terror is of vague provenance and not a shoe drop of an escalation of hatred coming from a specific or interelated specific group whose Jew hatred has been allowed to fester by the Powers That Be in ways that public hatred of other groups has not been ignored/ facilitated/ enabled by government/judiciary and Police.

The Jew haters better be careful what they wish for.

If every Brit Jew was to leave, despite being a small minority, the UK would be the much worse off, not they ( allowing for trauma due to self exile).

90% of the time in the UK over the last 20 years says it is - sadly.

Who were the other 10%?

I live in a predominantly Muslim city, and I can confirm that there is celebration around where I live today. It’s horrible, and has no place on our streets. They’ve been trying since October 7th 2023 to bring the war to the UK, and they have achieved that today. I hope that everyone gets behind the Jewish communities because they will be terrified today. They need our assurances that they will be protected.

Yes, there were imminent attacks in Germany planned for today. This is coordinated. So many student activists and campaign groups and charities and NGOs and flotillas have Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood money and puppetmasters behind them. They are just fronts; the propaganda wing of Islamofascist terrorism.

Absolutely this, none of this is British values. Its like the Arab spring springing all over the UK, this is not what fits with democracy and tolerance.
