Civil unrest, what's really going on?

Sadworld23 · 03/08/2025 17:02

My DH keeps chirping up with, there's riots here, protests there, immigrants have done assaults in xxx etc. He sees me as a bit of a do-gooder..

All UK places, but when I look at my regular news, there's very little reporting of it.

My DH has some MH issues currently and to confront him with 'what the heck are you reading?' isn't worth it right now.
I make comments such as, ooh that sounds grim and doesn't sound good, and that's very worrying, but I'd really like to know if it's really happening and where he's getting this info.

So you’re actively looking for stories about immigrant crime, and surprise, you’re finding them, while completely ignoring all the ones that don’t fit the narrative. That’s not uncovering hidden truth, it’s just trawling the internet for stuff to confirm what you’ve already decided. Funny how selective curiosity works.

Which stories ‘don’t fit the narrative’?

do you think they should cover up the rape of 12 year olds though?

are you not shocked and appalled by this?

we are sleepwalking into another Rotherham, that happened because of the fear of stoking community tensions

I don't think it's being covered up, because lots of people are talking about it, hence this thread clearly.

It is sickening and horrific whenever a child gets hurt or killed. But it doesn't make me so angry that I want to go out and throw bricks at innocent people and set fire to buildings full of innocent people.
Unfortunately tens of thousands of stupid people (as proven by last summer) are incited to do that, which is why news has to be reported carefully.

The poster is probably stunned by you forgiving an asylum seeker's crimes because of the stress they are living with.

How many crimes are ok? How many crimes can an asylum seeker commit and get a free pass because...they suffer so?

And then in your last paragraph you make THEM the victims. Do you care about the victims of their crimes at all?

You can’t impose media blackouts to prevent public anger. It’s stuff straight from 1984, frankly totalitarian and it won’t work anyway (as you can see). All it does is fester a distrust in the authorities and increase the anger.

Which stories ‘don’t fit the narrative’?

Crimes not involving immigrants, knife crime, domestic abuse, fraudc, get reported all the time. The real issue is selective attention: focusing only on the stories that fit a particular narrative, like those pushed by the likes of GB News, while ignoring the wider reality. That’s not journalism, it’s cherry-picking.

we are sleepwalking into another Rotherham, that happened because of the fear of stoking community tensions

Rotherham happened because no one pays attention to troubled working class girls who are naughty in school and engage in petty crime.

You know, the kind of girls that Mumsnetters don't want their kids to be friends with. "Rough" girls.

Nothing to do with the perpetrators in particular - after all, most rapes in the UK are ignored by the criminal justice system.

And the specific heinous crime referenced on the OP is being widely reported, completely unlike the crimes in Rotherham.

Yes its very odd, I saw a bit of BBC tv about protests in Newcastle, but nothing much on Guardian site considering the scale of what DH is telling me. No idea where he's getting it from but does watch alot of YouTube.

The Guardian?!? You still trust them to give you honest and unbiased reporting.

I prefer to read the Mail with a wry and cynical eye because at least it has the nickname DailyFail for being rubbish at reporting - you know what you’re going to get!

So what is "the narrative"? That's they're all poor little men from horrible war torn countries that want nothing more than to have a safe bed to sleep in?
Yeah your damn right in not falling for it.

OonaStubbs · 04/08/2025 00:27

The media needs to report all news, regardless. Because if they don't report it, it just leads to conspiracy theories regarding what else isn't being reported.

Livelovebehappy · 04/08/2025 00:17

The poster in question was stupidly justifying crimes committed by asylum seekers by suggesting the poor things had been through so much stress and anxiety. So more or less indicating that we should give them a free pass apparently to rape and murder….so yep, how can someone sleep at night holding such abhorrent views.

I didn't take that from the post at all.

How do you explain this then?

The local hotel was out into use for asylum seekers during COVID.
It's right by the local supermarket. It's got herris fencing across one entrance and a private property sign on the hotel signage now. I'd offer to take a photo next time I go shopping but I wonder if I'd get arrested for taking the photo and then sharing it on the internet.

The words we can not speak should concern us.

Abasin · 04/08/2025 00:27

Obviously. Given that this crime is in the news. No blackout present here.

Watermelonnice · 04/08/2025 00:27

It was covered up for over a week before someone whistle blew.

No one wants any riots.

People want to hear the news reported honestly in an unbiased way and to trust the government and police and feel that they are acting with integrity and in the best interests of the population.

people are starting to feel that they are being lied to.

MickGeorge22 · 04/08/2025 00:28

My colleague was beaten up in broad daylight by a mentally ill asylum seeker a while ago. He also attacked three others. Sustained substantial facial injuries for which he is still having treatment. there was absolutely nothing reported in the local press.

NidaNearby · 04/08/2025 00:28

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/08/2025 18:52

There are obviously going to be some crimes committed by asylum seekers , partly because some people are criminals and partly because they are living wirh a vast amount of stress, they are vulnerable and desperate. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I didn't have a permanent home and didn't know if I would be allowed to stay in the country. My mental health would probably be terrible.

On the other hand, I would imagine that asylum seekers are often the victims of crime - racist hate, abuse from traffickers, gang masters and dodgy landlords.

I guess the two Afghan asylum seekers who abducted, strangled and orally and vaginally raped a 12 year old girl in Nuneaton were just stressed and vulnerable? Or do you just see that girl as an acceptable level of collateral damage?

CareerChange24 · 04/08/2025 00:28

MightyDandelionEsq · 03/08/2025 22:43

A 12 year old girl was kidnapped and raped by two immigrants in an asylum hotel. The local police and councillors tried to keep it quiet to prevent civil unrest. The girl in Epping was also 12. It’s pretty sinister the importation of additional VAWG and lack of deportation of sex criminals.

Wow I had no idea this had happened. Could you link to a news story. Is this from a credible source or hearsay? If not. People need to wake up!

Search Nuneaton. It’s now all over the news.

If it’s not on the BBC, it’s being covered up. Yes, they should be across the board on this sort of thing. We need to pull back the covers of all crimes, hiding things just makes it worse.

Or maybe because the summer holidays are when little kids are in large groups going to taylor swift dance events? 🤔

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_riots
The last riots across England that weren't between late April and early September started in January 1919 (and continued into the summer). 106 years ago, i.e. before T. Swift.

(I can't find an equivalent list for the whole of the UK.)

It’s been reported that the police advised local councillors to hide the asylum status of the Afghan rapists, to avoid exacerbating ‘community tensions’. The cover up is exactly what happened in Rotherham - refusing to recognise that an outgroup was targetting the ingroup, for fear of stoking tensions. You seem to struggle with pattern recognition.
