Jews being hunted on streets of Amsterdam

Horrific footage all over social media of baying mobs hunting down Jews and beating them unconscious on the streets of Amsterdam.

Never again is now. Weak fearful police forces and politicians have allowed this poison to fester all over the western world. Absolute disgraceful scenes on the streets of so called tolerant Europe.

Plenty of videos circulating of Maccabi fans vandalising private property and attacking locals. At least one eyewitness report from somebody who was at the match of them trying to provoke fights on public transport and videos of them cheering and shouting during the pre-match minutes' silence for victims of the flood in Spain. And that's completely leaving aside some of the pretty vile chants they were coming out with

Shouldn't forget also that earlier this year Maccabi fans beat up an Egyptian man in Athens. They have form for this kind of thing.

This narrative is gaslighting. The victims of antisemitism are responsible for the violence perpetrated against them?

You aren't solely a victim if you are also perpetrating violence against other people and their property.

No. The narrative is challenging the view that the Maccabi fans were all peacefully walking around and were all suddenly victims of an unprovoked attack.

Look, there were Jewish people who were attacked by thugs last night and I hope the perpetrators are found and locked up. There was definitely an ambush of Maccabi fans leaving the stadium, no question.

But after having watched online footage of some of the Maccabi fans last night I am simply not going to accept that they were all peaceful victims. Some of them displayed behaviour that was just as bad as the Ajax / Dutch thugs. If you think my pointing this out means I am ‘victim blaming’ then..well ok. I don’t know what else to say.

2triangles · 08/11/2024 12:00

The violence wasn't confined to football fans but random people who were perceived as Jewish were confronted by a mob demanding to see their identity cards.

That sounds like racially motivated violence on a large scale to me.,

On both sides as far as I can see

Dutch politicians are able to call it what it was, and an IRGC Telegram group has claimed responsibility for the planned Amsterdam pogrom https://x.com/Aryammehr_2/status/1854851870029660537

so why do some people continue to minimise and victim blame?

Football hooligans have always been the lowest of the low IMO. What is wrong with people?

Maccabi supporters attacked taxi and burned Palestine flag, police saypublished at 11:46
11:46
Peter Holla tells reporters in Amsterdam Maccabi supporters attacked a taxi and set a Palestinian flag on fire on Wednesday.
He says trouble continued into the early morning yesterday.
Holla goes on to say that after the match on Thursday evening, Maccabi supporters were walking through the city centre and "rioters" carried out "hit-and-run" attacks targeting at the Israeli supporters.
Holla says it was "extremely difficult" for police to prevent this kind of "violence" - even though officers were there "in great numbers".
The Amsterdam police chief adds officers decided to "assemble" Maccabi supporters and "protect them" - taking them to hotels in coaches.

KoalaBC · 08/11/2024 12:47

If you are going to stir up trouble by behaving appallingly then you there will be a response. Cause and reaction anybody? The response was clearly disproportionate but it didn't come out of thin air. The Israeli fans were clearly provoking and this also needs to be investigated.

But surely it’s possible to condemn the violence carried out by both sides without victim blaming?

Why do you think pointing out that Maccabi fans committed violent acts is an attempt to minimise anything?

The fact Maccabi fans chanted “Death to the Arabs, we are going to win” (according to journalists) and hurled missiles doesn’t in any way lessen the gravity of the attacks on Jewish people. But it is a fact nonetheless.

We can pretend it didn’t happen and the only aggressors were the Ajax fans. But that doesn’t really work in an age where photos, videos and eye witness reports showing evidence to the contrary are available at the click of a button.

You can shout victim blaming from the rooftops but you can’t alter reality. Sorry.

I’ve read police have now arrested 60 people which is good news and I hope the rescue flights take the remaining supporters safely back home.

One day before the anniversary of Kristallnacht. Planned in advance. Allowed by the police.

Antisemitism has to be stopped.

This is absolutely insane.

RatitesUnite · 08/11/2024 08:14

As reported on CNN (not at all an Israeli-friendly news outlet)

“Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said on X he was in touch with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and was “horrified by the antisemitic attacks on Israeli citizens.”

“This is completely unacceptable. I am in close contact with all parties involved and have just spoken to (Israeli Prime Minister) Netanyahu by phone to stress that the perpetrators will be identified and prosecuted,” he said, adding “the situation in Amsterdam is now calm once more.””

So the both sides/just football hooliganism posters can get in the bin.

CNN is not Israel friendly?

You have just confirmed to me that there are two realities.

Jake Tapper, Jim Scott, Anderson Cooper, are not ALL pro Israel?

What am I reading?

If not, what does pro Israeli bloody look like?

It wasn’t Ajax fans (a traditionally Jewish club), a terrorist group have claimed responsibility. Dutch politicians and the king have apologised, why would they do that if ‘both sides’ are at fault?

It was not a spat between rival football fans with an equal share of the blame.

This was a pre-planned attack against Jewish people as people are gathering in Europe to commemorate the anniversary of Kristallnacht. It was not perpetrated by football fans or solely against them, but by a mob targeting anyone they perceived to be Jewish.

Reprehensible behaviour by some Maccabi supporters does not justify a lynch mob.

They’ve apologised for not protecting Jewish people who were attacked. I don’t think an apology precludes anyone from recognising there was violence on both sides?

I had no idea this was the work of a terrorist group and so fully admitting I didn’t have all the facts.

I’ll repost this eyewitness account from a UK based Ajax fan who needed stitches after intervening to protect an Israeli:

There are some horrifically racist and right-wing football fans in Israel and if there were some in Amsterdam tearing down flags and making racist and deliberately upsetting chants, that should have been dealt with by the authorities. However, men have filmed themselves beating people up, hunting them down, demanding people show passports and identity papers to prove they are not Israeli or Jewish, making racist slurs, demanding people shout 'Free Palestine' under threat of violence. It is sick and incredibly sinister.

I would also add that we have had over a year of pro-Hamas people (and, yes, I do mean pro-Hamas) shouting racist and terrorist slogans, ripping down Israeli flags and defacing the posters of kidnapped and murdered Israeli children. I have seen some of those people being verbally confronted but none of their repulsive actions have led to Jewish people hunting down and attacking random Muslims on city streets.

Can I believe pogroms have come back to Europe? Well, yes, unfortunately.

oakleaffy · 08/11/2024 14:54

So what is the answer?
There have been atrocities carried out on both sides- Israelis and Arabs - Lessons are never learned, and people can’t seem to live in harmony.
It just escalates.
Both are as bad as each other as far as atrocities go.

An endless tit for tat that will never end.

There can’t be an easy answer, or it would have been put in place decades ago.

Humans unfortunately are very tribal , and men ( some ) especially revel in violence.

This is so much more than simple football hooliganism. It was a planned pogrom and nobody should seek to minimise, victim blame or otherwise explain away such brutality.

Can you explain how this qualifies as a pogrom? I've read multiple reports of Israeli fans tearing down Palestinian flags and singing songs about dead Palestinian children, the situation escalated from there

andIsaid · 08/11/2024 15:23

If I am not mistaken the (shameful and morally bankrupt) program were institutional - as in government sanctioned and implemented.

Am I wrong there?

Did the Dutch government organize this?
