Jews being hunted on streets of Amsterdam

Horrific footage all over social media of baying mobs hunting down Jews and beating them unconscious on the streets of Amsterdam.

Never again is now. Weak fearful police forces and politicians have allowed this poison to fester all over the western world. Absolute disgraceful scenes on the streets of so called tolerant Europe.

I deliberately didn't just say Jewish because mosques in some areas do and Catholic primary schools in Northern Ireland have experienced the same. The issue is larger than just anti-semitism.

Don’t mix up Ireland with this issue, it is completely different.

Huge swathes of mosques do not need guards. That is incorrect.

CabbagesAndCeilingWax · 08/11/2024 06:35

Reuters aren't describing this as generic football violence. They say that a large nunber of "pro Palestine" protesters were trying to make their way to the stadium, despite the fact that the protest had been banned. And then this was the outcome.

Imagine if any other ethnic group were violently attacked in this way, and people just said "well, apparently some of them were chanting". Police deal with criminal chants/language, not violent vigilante groups. It's depressing that for so many people, Jews simply don't count.

All hate crimes are on the rise (which is awful) and will continue to do so.
The violence IS unacceptable. You ignore the bit where I say this. Chanting about dead children is also unacceptable and was done to provoke exactly this response.

Can you please link and verify the dead children claim, I just don’t believe it. This is a lie to justify the violence and abuse of Jewish people. The football game was clearly targeted.

The title of this thread is misleading.

Hundreds of Maccabi supporters converged on an area and clashed with rival Ajax supporters.

In parallel, a pro-Palestinian group attempting to protest the presence of the Israeli football team in the Netherlands was arrested (57 in total).

Football fans from both sides continued to fight throughout the night.

This was not a Pogrom. Dutch people did not suddenly take to the streets to hunt down and murder Jews.

GrammarTeacher · 08/11/2024 06:40

I will do when I have the time. I'm currently out of this discussion though.
I am not having my words twisted by people. I am not anti-Semitic. It is not anti-Semitic to be against the current actions of a government.
I did not say all mosques, I said some. And we don't even need to go back many months in this country to know that we have a much wider problem in Europe that is running alongside historic problems (encouraged by far right individuals).
We have more in common than that which divides us and it's about blinking time that everyone realised this.

That sounds like racially motivated violence on a large scale to me.,

So you can’t verify anything you have said, which does not surprise me in the least, you can not make random claims and stand by them in this way over something so contentious and dangerous. It’s not okay,

Netanyahu sending planes to rescue Jews from Europe. And people criticise Jews for daring to have a homeland.

This is the problem I have been trying and failing to explain to my woke pro-Palestine friends and family for decades. It's not as simple as 'Israel is wrong'. The history of abusing Jews wherever they are plays a huge part in the problem.

oakleaffy · 08/11/2024 06:43

Seems it was a football hooliganism brawl from both sides.

The same people appear on here that are anti semitic and say they are not, but justifying such terrible violence is pure racism.

Mlanket · 08/11/2024 06:46

It is not anti-Semitic to be against the current actions of a government. You are correct but it is anti semitic to blame people for the actions of the government or downplay attacks on them or dismiss it with whataboutery.

Artistbythewater · 08/11/2024 06:47

The authorities must have known this was an obvious flash point, its startling that it was even allowed to happen, and speaks of a deeper problem to me, near the home of Anne Frank of all places.

Mixed responsibilities as I stated.
AND...may I remind you I said that all the violence and all anti-semitism is unacceptable.
Ajax are a team with Jewish history like Spurs. Without the hooligans this would have been a protest with arrests.

I will add that 'pro-Palestinian' accounts gleefully sharing videos of people being assaulted are unacceptable and yes, I do call them out, and have called out people on line for doing so.

So in short, what do we know, there were provoking behaviours (as I said), football violence started. People get hurt. This is not a pogrom and it is an insult to the long history of European persecution of Jews to suggest it was. Is this something that needs dealing with - very much so and I expect to see a strong response from the Dutch police.

What we know about the attacks on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam

This is a developing story. Videos circulating on social media Thursday appeared to show Israeli soccer fans being chased and attacked on the streets of Amsterdam by men shouting pro-Palestinian slogans. Thousands of Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters travele...

You don’t say Jews because you don’t want to talk about antisemitism. Which is what this pogrom is. Instead you somehow want to blame the far right. Who are not the reason why Jewish schools need guards. No other school in England needs guards. Be honest about what the actual problem is.

I live in a diverse area- both the Jewish schools (both bigger state ones and smaller independent more orthodox ones) and the Muslim schools (smaller independent ones), have guards. I think it's shocking that both have to, but I understand why they do.

Even if every single Israeli in Europe chanted that, it is not okay to pull knives on them, run them over and hold them under water. Three Israelis are still reported missing according to the Jerusalem Post https://m.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-828103 may they get home safely.

'We were ambushed': At least ten injured, three missing in Amsterdam pogrom

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sent two emergency flights to evacuate Israelis from the city.

Nobody is saying it is acceptable! We're saying it's not a pogrom.
I keep saying that it is unacceptable. That is continually being missed.
Football has a long inglorious history associated with sectarian and racist violence. Ask anyone who lives in Glasgow. Or the family of the Leeds fan murdered in Turkey.
It is unacceptable . It is unforgivable. It was foreseeable.
I hope with you that the missing people get home safe.
Nobody should go to a football match and not come home.

Good, and it’s definitely not acceptable to say anyone condoning anti semitism is ‘far right’ either! That is so offensive.

This is football violence.
Violence done on both sides by men up for a fight.

There are Female Jewish football supporters there with their 'nice' boyfriends {in Maccabi colours} and they aren't fighting.

Look at the history of {some} football supporters- from all Countries- they just like to brawl.

No.

This game was targeted by pro Palestine thugs looking for any excuse to intimidate and abuse Jewish people. There are missing people. This is not okay and are you seriously supporting it oak? If you are anti semitic at least say so.

2triangles · 08/11/2024 07:05

This is so much more than simple football hooliganism. It was a planned pogrom and nobody should seek to minimise, victim blame or otherwise explain away such brutality.

People in Mum's family were shot by Gestapo and were killed in camps {Red Cross info} One escaped to Argentina, the other to Hull on a Trawler as he had a British Wife.

  • This awful violence is on both sides.
Cartwrightandson · 08/11/2024 07:10

Perhaps the Israeli supporters shouldn't have shouted provocative and obscene things about Gaza and Palestine to Arab supporters. It's football violence not specifically because they are Jews, it would have been to anyone who shouts things or says awful things about the children in Gaza dying.

PurpleChrayn · 08/11/2024 07:11

Summerhillsquare · 08/11/2024 05:47

Oh, Israeli authorities say, do they? Well it must be true then. You'd think their Leader might be too busy invading other countries and handling protests from actual Israelis against him to worry about the Dutch.

That's what you take from this?

I know exactly what side you'd have been on in 1940.
