Just that really. Those poor families and children 😪 I wonder what on earth is happening and why it has been reopened. It says there were flaws in the initial investigation

Well I think its pretty obvious for whatever reason - and who knows if its true - that they dont believe it was an unforseen medical emergency. And that the driver knew of her condition before - I think that’s the question they want answers to. It seems obvious to me. Tragic all round.

Well that would surely be easy to prove or disprove as she would have had to hand over medical records?

what would be harder to prove was if they thought she was faking the whole seizure thing. I wonder if that’s the angle they will be exploring.

If she has had a live monitored seizure since, that could never prove she had one on the day of the crash but could certainly act as supporting evidence.

If paramedics at the scene judged that she was in a post-ictal state I think that would be quite hard to overturn. In particular the calls for new eyewitness evidence interest me. Someone having a seizure could convulse, go rigid, go floppy, collapse or carry on driving / walking etc without showing what was happening.

I doubt eyewitness evidence could prove she wasn't having a seizure, but I suppose it's possible it could support that claim.

In the end, whether or not she had a seizure before and whether or not she had a seizure since, there's no way to prove 100% that she had one then, unfortunately for everyone concerned.

I agree, I don’t think anyone would ever be able to prove that she doesn’t have epilepsy

And I agree with you on the medical records too. That makes it seem odd that they have arrested her again but are still requesting new eyewitness reports. What could people have seen that would change anything at this stage?

I am glad the case is re-opened. I believe the girls' families pushed for it.

Justice was not seen to be done.

I suppose it could be that she long suspected it, continued to drive but never got treatment/stopped driving. In denial if you like- though obviously thats not an excuse.

I think this rather than she faked the epilepsy- I wouldnr have thought that would be easy.

I’m glad the case has been re opened. I am local and so many witness statements were not taken. Additionally the way the driver and her husband have conducted themselves is unsavoury, they gagged the press, had all pictures removed of themselves (it was only when the foreign press started publishing them). They spent 6 months deleting all images and social media accounts.

even her statement is disrespectful ‘well I became aware’ you were conscious when you came out of the vehicle and were speaking.

To be fair, I don't think trying to keep your image out of the media is at all strange. If you genuinely had a medical event would you be happy with your face plastered across the media outlets? How would that serve any purpose?

abricotine · 28/01/2025 20:49

@chargeitup it’s not strange, but it does suggest someone very well resourced and extremely well advised from the outset. Which is kind of at odds with the image we have of the grieving families who are in the hands of a creaking system that lacks sufficient experts investigators to have properly ascertained what went on in the first place.

Twixfixing · 28/01/2025 20:54

creaking system that lacks sufficient experts investigators to have properly ascertained what went on in the first place.

That's a good point, there aren't enough investigators.

Her exiting the car conscious and speaking means very little. Most seizures are over (where complete loss of consciousness is concerned) within just over a minute.

There is still brain activity causing confusion, agitation etc - but you'd be confused and agitated in this situation anyway. She was likely immediately aware that something dreadful had happened, but it would not be clear when she would take in the details and whether she would remember the immediate aftermath later.

I would worry that some people are assuming her actions weren't compatible with epilepsy without knowing what a seizure can be like.

Rumpoleoftheballet · 28/01/2025 22:07

@Bringonchristmas36 where have you seen her statement as I can't imagine the police published it? Do you know any of the families if you're local?

Teado · 28/01/2025 22:21

Awful case. I really hope they get to the bottom of what happened.

Whenever this case comes up on MN, there is always someone claiming to know the driver... saying things like she is driving about and living her best life etc. Posting posh pics of her bathroom on some blog....

I am not sure what re-arresting her is going to achieve. This sort of thing is just making people lack trust in the police, if they think cases are not investigated properly.

Anothercoffeeafter3 · 28/01/2025 22:29

Something has happened she can't have been conscious having struck a fence then traveled over 100m in a straight line leaving no marks on the grass etc. in a car with multiple crash avoidance systems go drive one it would have been screaming at her.

Even if she had been speeding or distracted when she struck the fence instinct would have taken over and she would have pulled right possibly clipping the gate she went through but then likely exiting the other side of the fence away from the kids. Think about if you clip a curb when you feel the impact what do you do?

They will have got her blood work back so obviously no sign of drugs. So only option left is proving she knew she had an issue and did nothing about it.

It's sounds like the investigation was a mess and the parents have managed to push for it be reopened. However if the CPS with all the evidence in front of them have decided no charge it's unlikely to change and if it does maybe highlights a concern regarding media influence.

Twixfixing · 28/01/2025 22:48

I have been in a crash & things happen in seconds, you don't always know how people will react.

I think it highlights the lack of investigators and resources.

@Anothercoffeeafter3 thats what makes me think it’s quite probable that she did have a seizure. No braking, no avoidance,,,,,,she wasn’t distracted by taking her eyes off the road for a second. If she wasn’t drunk it must surely have been a medical episode 🤷‍♀️
