Just that really. Those poor families and children 😪 I wonder what on earth is happening and why it has been reopened. It says there were flaws in the initial investigation

Sending the driver to jail isn't going to bring those poor girls back.

Can you imagine blacking out, having no recollection of crashing, coming round and finding out you've killed two young children? AND then you find out you could go to jail for that, despite it being a genuine accident in the true sense of the word. She also has a life sentence.

I feel for the parents, I really do, but they're rich parents who believe they can buy the result they want. :( :( nothing is going to bring their girls back. Utterly horrific all round really. Just can't see what it would achieve jailing someone for having a medical episode?

Sending the driver to jail isn't going to bring those poor girls back

You could make that argument about people being killed in any circumstances.

Except the driver in this had a medical episode, that means she was not in control and had no recollection of what happened.

What would you achieve by sending her to jail?

crumblingschools · 25/10/2024 00:46

@XenoBitch maybe that is what they are re-examining

I think the question is whether she in fact did have a medical episode, given that there are already local rumors about irresponsible driving prior to the crash. I mean, I think most likely it was medical and this is just the parents' grief talking. But perhaps we need to look into this again.

Was there any investigation into why the car didnt stop after it hit the fence? Ive only got a skoda and if i park near a bush with big leaves protruding out it brakes and wont let me go another inch.

Just going to repost this here:

Land Rover Defender: A reboot that lives up to the hype – The Irish Times
This Irish Times write-up of the Land Rover Defender merrily exclaims that:
"Speaking to The Irish Times at the launch, Nick Collins, the Defender's vehicle line director explained that "an example of one of our toughest sign-off tests was to get the Defender to overcome hitting a 200mm high square-edged kerb at 40km/h. Now if you happen to be unlucky enough to be the test driver of that car, that's quite an extreme input. That specific test will generate 7 tonnes of load through the suspension, through the links and into the body structure." And the new Defender can cope. This is heavy duty off-roading."

As this Twitter commenter pointed out "Not great news for any pedestrian standing on the other side of that kerb." Apparently, neither the Irish Times not the vehicle line director appear to have given the slightest thought to the danger this poses to anyone on the pavement.

Can someone who is a bit more techsavvy than me create some sort of digital archive of the Claire Freemantle: Overcoming Epilepsy's Challenges in Wimbledon | Journal link? In case it suddenly "disappears"?

I have grabbed some screenshots, but an archive would be better.

Why? It’s just a blog. It’s someone’s opinion it doesn’t mean it has any factual basis!

Good. There were allegations at the time that the driver had form for speeding / dangerous driving and they were ignored. A trial should also make it transparent about why the police believe the murderer had a sudden seizure (extremely rare) & should hopefully be forced to submit some medical proof that it wasn’t something she was already being treated (and should have lost her license) for. There are also rumours she’s connected to someone fairly ‘big’ & it’s possible the police have brushed things under the carpet.

I hope it goes to trial.

It’s possible to be both - she was a bad driver/speeded and suffered a seizure on that day. Moreover, epilepsy isn’t “extremely rare”. 1 in 26 people will have a seizure in their lifetime.

Epilepsy is 100% a clinical diagnosis and the best evidence of it is a witnessed or ideally video recorded seizure. Failing that (and in the days before everyone had a smartphone) it is completely legitimate to diagnose on the basis of a witness report of a typical seizure.

Structural brain scans like CT or MRI cannot diagnose epilepsy as there is usually no structural abnormality

A recording of brain waves (EEG) can be negative even when someone has epilepsy unless they are actually having a seizure at the time. Sometimes 24hr recordings can be helpful but a negative EEG doesn't rule out epilepsy

She says this was her first ever seizure.
Either there was evidence of subsequent ones or there was some other evidence shown on EEG or something else to diagnose. One of the telling features is that someone who had a full on grand mal seizure like this would be very sleepy/ confused for quite a period afterwards. Witness and police reports would back that up and if she had a negative drug and alcohol screen then a seizure is high up the list of possible causes.

I don't know what it would add to interview every single person at the scene in any case. The facts of what happened are not denied and are evident it's the cause that presumably is disputed and only a neurologist could reliably pronounce on that.

Yes, I know all that due to personal circumstances. I was responding to someone who said an EEG only showed something after multiple seizure because I think they’d misunderstood. The diagnosis of epilepsy is made after two or more seizures - which is very different than implying only after two seizures could an EEG show evidence of epilepsy.

the author has a stolen profile picture and pumping out ai stories on nfl, supplement s and missing people stories, popular search niches to create back links to other websites so… probably not.

No, it got ruled out so it was never seen. He was guilty as sin and is still out there. And kept his job with the law firm!

Oh my god how can they rule out cctv?! I mean it’s factual!

Why are these stupid tanks allowed in urban and built up areas? Perhaps a question thst needs answering.

The flip flops and booze thing don’t surprise me in the least. I have long been curious as to where she was coming from that morning.

Is that true not seen that mentioned before? flip flops are difficult to drive in for sure...

CheekyAndFunny · 25/10/2024 14:03

I must be naive, where would people have been wearing flip flops and boozing?
It should be illegal to drive in flip flops.

Can this really be true? Surely, driving in fit flops must be seen as careless driving in itself??

devilsadvocate77 · 25/10/2024 14:39

Also, is the driver the same lady who works in senior sales for a car sales organisation that also sells Land Rovers??

runningslowlyuphill · 25/10/2024 14:40

She wasn't driving in flip flops. Another one of those baseless rumours that surrounds this case.

I hope to God you never get selected for Jury duty with such a low bar for proof beyond reasonable doubt. Calling someone a murderer based purely on local rumours? Oh dear. I suggest you develop some critical thinking skills.

Bringonchristmas36 · 25/10/2024 20:02

I’m glad the case has been re opened. I am local and so many witness statements were not taken. Additionally the way the driver and her husband have conducted themselves is unsavoury, they gagged the press, had all pictures removed of themselves (it was only when the foreign press started publishing them). They spent 6 months deleting all images and social media accounts.

even her statement is disrespectful ‘well I became aware’ you were conscious when you came out of the vehicle and were speaking.

Bringonchristmas36 · 25/10/2024 20:04

the whole handling of this case has been mishandled. I understand officers have been suspended over it
