Just that really. Those poor families and children 😪 I wonder what on earth is happening and why it has been reopened. It says there were flaws in the initial investigation

The whole thing stinks. I have countless friends in Wimbledon village and they are hopeful that justice will be done.

I have one friend local to there and she says the feeling in her circle is the woman is incredibly wealthy and basically threw £££ at it all to make it go away…..

Why was the link to the bathroom article deleted? It’s quite innocuous and can be very easily be found by typing in the lady’s name and bathroom. She has nice taste, if pretty inoffensive.

I’m not far & yes that’s the feeling. However I think most would assume that based on the new £££ car, 3 dc, 6 bed house with interior designer, banker husband, etc.

I doubt there's any new evidence, what new evidence could suddenly appear in a case like this? So if there is no new evidence the same conclusion will be reached.

Twixfixing · 24/10/2024 17:00

What I always thought was odd was that I’m sure initial articles said a woman was arrested at the scene. But someone who had a seizure should have gone to the hospital? And if you aren’t admitted within a certain timeframe would a seizure even be picked up on a scan?

Twixfixing · 24/10/2024 17:00

Of course initial reports may have been wrong.

The METs statement says

”The review has identified a number of lines of enquiry that require further examination and, as such, the investigation will now be reopened.”

"This further investigation will be undertaken by an accredited senior investigating officer and team with experience in homicide investigations."

The family are suffering the most dreadful agony and want someone or something to blame, I would too were I in their position. Given that this appears to be a medical episode, it would make more sense to point the finger at the practice of driving ridiculously large and powerful cars in the middle of London. But given that this is a posh school, a lot of the people in the parents’ circles will drive exactly the same sort of car and perhaps the parents themselves. Hence, the casting of doubt on the verdict.

We don't actually know it was an unavoidable medical incident at all. Did she really have a seizure that day? Was it really her first seizure or was she away she had them and was still continuing to drive thus risking lives?

XelaM · 24/10/2024 17:21

Embery · 24/10/2024 15:18

It seems unlikley the driver did this on purpose.
Even if she had known it still isnt intentional. She likely wouldnt have got long in prison.

It is awful for the family. But in terms of putting people off from driving if they might have medical issues i think that has likely been successful. Noone would want this on their conscious. I mean the bus driver had a heart attack, but people can still drive after one (after a while). Should people in charge of larger vehicles have more health checks...?

My friend has epilepsy and she was not allowed to drive unless several years episode-free. If this woman was driving knowing she had epilepsy, she absolutely should face prison as she was willingly putting lives at risk.

What justice do you want served? Slam a woman in jail for having an epileptic fit? Yeah that would make them feel great about themselves. Their children would still be dead but the punishment’ wouldn’t be just at all.

Edited

If she knew she had epilepsy and was driving regardless, she should absolutely face jail!

Seizures can’t always be picked up on scan regardless of time frame. It’s possible that someone who’s had an initial seizure may themselves at the time not realise they’ve had a seizure so it’s quite possible that they wouldn’t be taken to hospital.

we don’t know what happened after the incident…..possibly she had another seizure with witnesses. And something like that could be enough to get you a diagnosis. My dad had epilepsy, he was diagnosed as my mum witnessed more than one seizure and that was taken as “evidence”. His seizures were never seen (prior to diagnosis) by a doctor, no blood tests show it up, nothing showed up on scans, eeg, etc. so he was diagnosed purely on self reported symptoms.

I read an article on the BBC and they spoke to one of the children's parents and they sounded very measured. They said they'd accept the decision but they were told certain people had been spoken to but they hadn't.

I seem to remember reading an interview with one of the teachers who was at the scene and she said she’d never been interviewed?

This was it - Mr Lau is very calm and measured and says they just want everyone spoken to them should have been and they'll accept the findings. I think that's absolutely fair enough.

Btw I am not saying she has faked further seizures to get a diagnosis. I would have no idea but just wanted to say there is no clear “test” for epilepsy. And I could understand that possibly that could understandably be hard for some people involved to accept. I can certainly understand the parents wanting to know that a through investigation has been undertaken. But I’m not sure how anything could be proved 🤷‍♀️.

You'd like to think the police would have looked at stuff like skid marks and if no sign of braking that’s a good sign the person was unconscious at the time.

Twixfixing · 24/10/2024 17:36

Which is why it’s odd the police didn’t appear to get witness statements.

They just want everyone interviewed who should be

That seems shocking maybe the police thought they had enough witnesses

Twixfixing · 24/10/2024 17:38

But how do you make a police investigation go away?!

The thinking behind that is by having an impossible to prove medical episode that absolves you of any blame.

Twixfixing · 24/10/2024 17:43

I’m not sure why so many are criticising the parents…

Westofeasttoday · 24/10/2024 17:45

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/10/2024 12:55

But what would justice look like in this circumstance?

An unforeseeable medical emergency wasn't it?

I heard an interview with the parents of one of the little girls today on LBC. Basically they just really want information and to understand. They were really wonderful people and not vengeful at all. They are just trying to make sense of this tragedy and what happened.

Twixfixing · 24/10/2024 17:45

Exactly, who wouldn’t feel similar?

I know I think they are exemplary in that BBC interview. And the police clearly agree they've not done it properly
