Jess Phillips suggests she received quicker NHS treatment because she voted for Gaza ceasefire.

Wait, what?

I was talking about how in the war against Isis the uk and USA bombed hospitals and schools without warning unlike the IDF. You made a disparaging (and unsupported) comment about the IDF In response.

I don’t think murder of children is ok. Very few people do (Hamas and other Palestinian terror organizations such as PIJ are obviously exceptions to this).

It’s not murder if children are killed during a war though. It is murder if children are killed in a terrorist attack like on 7 October.

The IDF has bombed plenty of schools and hospitals without warning. And those schools were sheltering thousands of displaced people. Your comments justifying the killing of thousands of children are very disturbing.

User6874356 · 31/08/2024 00:34

I would say also that medical staff should care for people without discrimination no matter how much they disagree with their views. Even if the patient has views they find hateful or disgusting.

You see that in Israel where even Sinwar got excellent medical treatment from Israeli doctors who successfully treated his brain cancer. This is despite him being in jail at the time for trying to murder them and those like them on grounds of race.

I believe it is.

And the ICCJ is as concerned by certain members of the Israeli state as they are by Sinwar.

That isn’t true. The fact you spread misinformation made up by a terrorist organization is very disturbing.

Do you know what Hamas thinks of women? Gay people? Christians? I would not rely on what they say if I were you.

There are plenty of eye witness accounts from doctors that would disagree with you.

Oh please. The treatment of medical workers in Gaza by Israeli forces has been deplorable. Murder, torture. Horrendous. Have you not heard about the torture camps? Or is it OK when it's Palestinians being tortured by Israelis?

Again, that is not true. There is no such thing as a “member of the Israeli state” in any event.

It is true. It's well documented. You're the one spreading disinformation. It's disgusting to read, actually.

Edited

Sinwar was indeed successfully treated by Israeli doctors of his brain cancer. Even he does not dispute that - why do you?

there are no “torture camps” - don’t be ridiculous.

why are you so keen to believe terrorist propaganda? What do you think these people think of you and your way of life?

I don't have a clue about the Sinwar thing. That's why I didn't comment on it. It's gross to read effusive praise of how Israel treats people when they are torturing and murdering healthcare workers as we speak. It's not terrorist propaganda as you well know.

A 5 second google would tell you that but I suspect the truth isn't of interest to you.

They are just terrorists and antsemites don’t you know 🙄 According to the Israeli State and Zionist supports, anyone who disagrees with their actions are antisemites 😡

I do too.

It’s objectively not. Murder is a legal term.

you might not approve of children being killed in war (most people including me of course don’t approve of this). Children being killed in war is an awful thing. But it’s not murder.

Also if it’s just some children you think being killed in a war is murder rather than all that maybe says that you’re just going along with the latest thing.

I think Hamas murdered Israeli people too. Not sure why you would conclude I thought ‘it was just some children’.

Don’t be ridiculous. Israel are not torturing or killing healthcare workers. Of course healthcare workers may be killed in the conflict because some are Hamas and PIJ members. For example, the rocket maker for PIJ who also worked as a physiotherapist for MSF. Sadly (as per the Jess Phillips story) healthcare workers are not immune from being supporters of terrorism. Especially in Gaza where hospitals are used as militant centres and where you need to be connected to Hamas to get a good job.

I am understanding murder to mean the unlawful killing of another human without justification, as I do not see how killing of innocent people ( including children) can be justified. On this basis, I see murder on both sides.

Hamas did indeed murder Israelis in a terrorist attack. That is different legally from a war.

I meant the many many wars that have taken place in the past and are happening at the moment.

People dying in a war is not unlawful killing. It’s tragic of course and awful. But comparing a war of self defence to a terrorist attack is wrong.

I presumed from what you said about most of the casualties being Hamas fighters that you knew the numbers that’s why I asked.

The IDF mentioned April’s figures as 12,000 + but I can’t find the latest.

On 7 April, the IDF said that more than 13,000 operative of Hamas and its allies had been killed by Israel in Gaza in the fighting (although an IDF press release gave 12,000+), in addition to the 1,000 killed on 7 October.

The Red Cross puts the total number dead at over 39k so, if the IDF say they’ve killed 13k Hamas operatives and allies, that would mean 26k civilian deaths.

What happened in Israel on 7 October and the continued holding of the 103 remaining hostages is disgusting but that doesnt excuse those deaths or the millions left without clean drinking water, food or a home because of Israel’s response. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Are you concluding therefore that, so long as a war is fought in self-defence, that primary justification means that any killing that ensues can never be unlawful?

I ask as I genuinely wish to understand your position.

Annnnd back to Jess Philips. I read a very strange interview she gave not long ago. The level of self aggrandisement was off the scale. She kept repeating that people constantly tell her she is amazing because she is so tough and takes no prisoners. In fairness she admitted she has a huge ego.

What I found odd was her insistence that there are basically no other MPs who would be brave enough to do the incredible things she has done such as confronting violent members of the public and dealing with confrontational men. It’s good to know Ms Philips is the only one out of 650 sitting MPs (that includes former members of the armed forces) who is capable of bravery.

GreenTeaLikesMe · 31/08/2024 02:02

I was really shocked by this. Either she made it up (unprofessional of her, and why would even think it was a good/funny/heartwarming/whatever story to make up and tell people?), OR it did happen and she thought it was fine rather than _ing reporting the doctor. Very very worrying to think that a doctor might treat people differently depending on their political views - we all risk falling foul of such behavior. Imagine being Jewish and getting that person as your care provider?

I'm not interested in debating Gaza here (and I'm not happy about Israel's behavior either); this is about the ethics and behavior of MPs and doctors.

@callmej I am a committed Labour voter and Philip's fan- and I agree with you. Do you have a reputable source for this story?

It’s widely reported on LBC and elsewhere, although the Guardian.
