Jess Phillips suggests she received quicker NHS treatment because she voted for Gaza ceasefire.

Wait, what?

I am still awaiting clarification from her whether this is true. Its alleged she said it in front of an audience with event so plenty of witnesses. She seems to have gone silent. It is also alleged she said she got quicker treatment because if who she is ie an MP. I really can't believe an MP would admit something like this even if true 😦

Right - she said the doctor was a Palestinian, hence the alleged preferential treatment.

If it’s true, the doctor in question needs to be interviewed, as this would be a clear disciplinary matter.

Very frightening for Jewish patients. We may just not get essential treatment if this is permitted.

Menopausalsourpuss · 30/08/2024 22:33

Yes @User6874356 and outrageous for anyone who supports Israel like me. Are they going to stay asking our political views before treating us?

headstone · 30/08/2024 22:37

I hope she didn’t say something this stupid, there is already enough anti Muslim hatred in the UK .

NashvilleQueen · 30/08/2024 22:42

I slightly wonder whether she was talking bollocks in front of a sympathetic audience and is now very embarrassed. Either way she's a fool.

Flibflobflibflob · 30/08/2024 22:44

Stupid thing to say a) no-one should be getting preferential treatment except on the basis of medical need b) if you do get it for being an MP you should either say “ah no thanks, I’ll wait my turn” or never breath a word about it.

Such a stupid thing to say.

Having political views and having political power are two very different things.

Also, isn't a ceasefire a good thing? Who wants continued bloodshed?

Menopausalsourpuss · 30/08/2024 22:57

No @BippityBopper she said two things - 1) She got preferential treatment for being an mp 2) she also got preferential treatment for voting for a ceasefire. Also it is obviously more complicated than a ceasefire being a good thing which is why the mainstream labour position stopped short of this (and she was going against their position).

headstone · 30/08/2024 23:11

More complicated then a ceasefire being a good thing? Over 40,000 dead, 2.6 percent of all children in Gaza and a polio outbreak. You must really have to hate Palestinians to believe a ceasefire isn’t a good thing.

Obviously nobody wants continued bloodshed, which is why Hamas need to release the remaining hostages as requested. You can support Israel and also still want a ceasefire….the two aren’t mutually exclusive.

She said she got preferential treatment because of being who she is and also that a Palestinian doctor had said he liked her because of her stance on Gaza.

This is slightly different from the thread title.

However, if true, any suggestion of preferential treatment for either reason is obviously outrageous. It needs to be investigated to find out exactly what happened.

Sorry, not the thread title, but the OP’s post

CurlewKate · 30/08/2024 23:34

If that's what she said and that's what happened, it's outrageous and shocking. The only references I can find are Daily Mail and Spectator. Any other links, please?.

Ecstaticmotion · 30/08/2024 23:36

I’ve met her. She says all sorts of stuff like this all the time. She’s one of those people who likes sounding and feeling important. She also name drops and stuff like that. I’d ignore it, rather than think it’s true.

Yes, they are two different things.

Having political power always yields more results than having just political views

DM also quotes: . 'I got through because of who I am

I can believe that she 'got through this' solely because of who she is - why does this mean she has more value than any other member of the public?

Milsonophonia · 30/08/2024 23:37

How any human being can look at what is happening in Gaza and justify it in any way shape or form is totally beyond me.

It’s a war against a vile terrorist organization. There is not 2.6% of children killed- most killed were militants. Also “ceasefire” only means Israel to stop fighting against terrorists who want to murder all Jews - that is their stated aim. Hamas are not going to stop killing- they have broken previous ceasefires after literally minutes

in any event, it’s not relevant. It should be a basic principle of our uk health system that doctors do not treat patients more or less favorably because of their political opinions.

I think most educated people know this is a war that Israel have wanted to have for a very long time.

I know. Hundreds are still held hostage and vile terrorists are still being supported by so many in the west. Despite the fact that all Hamas have ever done being to enrich themselves at the expense of the people of Gaza, who they will happily starve if it suits them and who they are now telling to be suicide bombers. Only an absolute monster would support that

If Hamas are hiding underneath schools and hospitals then you can't get them. Sad, but true. Otherwise what happens is that you kill and maim thousands of innocent civilians.

Look it up.

There is no figure for total casualties other than from Hamas. Hamas figures are made up with minimal effort and have been completely discredited- eg some days they increase the women or children killed but don’t increase the total accordingly. So the men comeback to life.

it’s made up nonsense from terrorists who would happily murder anyone who doesn’t go along with their sick ideology/. Stop being so naive

I mean, there's literally video footage of doctors and nurses in hospitals treating screaming kids, but OK.

Menopausalsourpuss · 30/08/2024 23:53

Talk about a derail. The question is over JPs behaviour not over whether she was right to vote for a ceasefire (against Labour's position I might add). I'm inclined to think she is as @Ecstaticmotion says and totally unsuitable to be an MP. The fall in standards is one of the reasons we're in such a mess.
