Jess Phillips suggests she received quicker NHS treatment because she voted for Gaza ceasefire.

Wait, what?

Hamas did indeed murder Israelis in a terrorist attack. That is different legally from a war.

I meant the many many wars that have taken place in the past and are happening at the moment.

Can we please return to the original Thread - or please start a new one.

So far there have been several selective quotations from Phillips' latest book, which is written in her characteristic-not sure what word a critic would use -breezy? casual? -style. She is talking about her own life experience and what that has made her.She does not say she is the only person who would do certain things. She does say that she is by nature inclined to pile in where others might hesitate, which is deniably true! And-this is a direct quotation- "In fact, since becoming an MP, I have been the only person in a group otherwise consisting of men to take charge when someone was suffering an angry psychotic episode."

Still looking for more information about the incident at the hospital.

Don’t be ridiculous. Israel are not torturing or killing healthcare workers. Of course healthcare workers may be killed in the conflict because some are Hamas and PIJ members. For example, the rocket maker for PIJ who also worked as a physiotherapist for MSF. Sadly (as per the Jess Phillips story) healthcare workers are not immune from being supporters of terrorism. Especially in Gaza where hospitals are used as militant centres and where you need to be connected to Hamas to get a good job.

You can ignore the truth if you want. That's your own business. Makes it absolutely pointless talking to you though.

I have no axe to grind aside from requiring personal integrity - especially for those in public office - past, present, future.

A number of media sources have run with it - I highly doubt they would risk an action in libel, and Phillips has gone uncharacteristically silent.

Keen to give her the benefit of doubt, but I will not defend her whilst these allegations go unanswered.

@EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime I expect integrity too. And I won't defend her if this story is true. But the sources I have found are ones that have had axes to grind with her in the past, so I'm waiting to find out more.

Prudent.

I hope she puts out a strong rebuttal, but I think this story has legs, sadly.

I still don't think we've heard from her yet have we? Unlike people on here I'm not a fan and think she's awful anyway which Is why I'm keen to be fair and give her a chance to expand herself.

Silence from her, which is uncharacteristic given her social media presence.

Wait, what?

What a bizarre claim. Articles include a quote from her event, should be easy to rebut or not

When she talks about being the only person in a group who did x or that she doesn’t think many other MPs would [insert her heroic act such as helping a woman who was attacked] the sense I get is she is motivated by the fact it reflects well on her and shows how incredible she is rather than the act of helping itself.

She talked in that interview as if she has a unique skill set in dealing with difficult situations and challenging people. There was some nonsense about seeing things very few other people have seen as if she’s been off fighting in an obscure war zone.

Jess love, there are thousands of health care professionals, police officers and social workers up and down this country who have done and continue to do on a daily basis the things you boasted about doing. They just don’t have the time to commit them to memory and write a self congratulatory book about it all🙄

kerstina · 31/08/2024 09:33

What evidence does she have? I find her so annoying and gobby but I do admire her stance on Gaza but possibly only did it to hold onto her seat as she is the Yardley MP

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 31/08/2024 09:55

Unfortunately, she doesn’t do herself any favours.
Self-promotion is not exactly an endearing character trait.

So far, The Spectator, the Daily Mail, the Telegraph and LBC have all said she "reportedly" "suggested" that she got special treatment. No quotations, no witnesses... which is a little odd.

Incidenrally, Phillips is a supporter of the parliamentary Friends of Israel group and has been outspoken on Israel's right to self defence.

Which DM article are you looking at? The one I just googled to see what this was all about has quotes

Speaking at an event unambiguously billed as An Evening With Jess Phillips, held at Kiln Theatre in North London, Phillips recounted an episode from her personal medical history

But this, she said, was 'undoubtedly' for two reasons only. 'I got through because of who I am. Also the doctor who saw me was Palestinian, as it turns out. Almost all the doctors in Birmingham seemed to be.'

Her vote, she said, was the other reason that she received preferential treatment.

'He was sort of like, "I like you. You voted for a ceasefire". [Because of that] I got through quicker.'

It must be all pretty public and people there could say if she didn't share this story quickly, including Phillips

So why the silence?

Very odd.

Everyone has read animal farm, right?

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

Whoop whoop Jess Philips and* *Labour!

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

But I can't understand why everyone would play along - I get why The Guardian wouldn't publish, but The Times? I think that must mean it's not been verified, though it is very odd she's not come out to deny it...

The DM likely has the info and other press can choose to re report if they want

The Times do stories like the passes one but they got the story initially

LastTrainEast · 31/08/2024 11:12

"Also, isn't a ceasefire a good thing? Only if you're ok with leaving the hostages in the hands of the terrorists. Imagine if it were you praying for rescue.

"Who wants continued bloodshed?" That would be Hamas

As for Jess Phillips I'm sure she made it up, but what it says about her is enough for her to be rejected by all decent people.

The doctors who treated her should sue her for making the claim that they would do such a thing.

Vikina · 31/08/2024 11:13

If this is true it's disgraceful.

Yes, but why would The Times choose not to publish if the DM information is sound? They're not so far from the DM politically these days and are full of anti-Labour stories every day. I strongly believe they would latch on to this immediately if they trusted it.

I don't understand your second sentence, sorry.
