warning, graphic details

I was genuinely shocked to read the additional details that the poor young woman killed by her XL bully on her birthday a few months ago died after her dog tore her arm off. She wasn't a tiny thing. The power in those jaws when that type of dog goes bad is just terrible. I am so glad they have been banned.

I think it was 2018, in our old house and we had a new neighbour move in opposite, they had a SUV and a huge transit van they used to muck about parking up and down the road for some reason.

One day on the way back from school drop off I was walking up towards him as he got out of this van and I was about 10ft away when he opened the back and there was this beast of a thing.

It stopped me in my tracks, I wanted to throw up it was so horrifyingly big it was disgusting. He had this huge metal thick chain around its neck and it's head was like a boulder, it was abnormal, like having a lion in the back of a van.

His owner laughed it off when I said " what a big boy " he told me it was an XXL and they needed to reinforce the van to cart it about.

I don't know how I even walked past it tbh, it wasn't growling or aggressive, just sitting there, but a completely disturbing creature, mouth like a shark, so I can 100% believe one of those could rip an arm off and still go back for more.

That poor poor woman.

Well when you play with fire you should expect to get burned.

Theolittle · 21/08/2024 20:19

I’ve no idea why so many people seem attracted to owning these Frankenstein dogs 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

There’s still lots of bullies left, some of them are puppies so there’s still 12ish years left of attacks and fatalities left.

OneFrenchEgg · 21/08/2024 20:25

There should be a cull. It's almost a public health issue, dangerous dogs in insecure and unknown locations. I'm sick of reading about them. Maybe we should just ban all large dogs in the UK and stop the idiots from moving on to the next breed.

Wish that was the case but there's plenty of evil bastard bull crosses roaming the streets, somehow exempt from being certified as XL bullies yet equally as dangerous. The Government is an ass and are being laughed at by the filthy, skanky smack heads that breed and own these things.

Parkermumma07 · 21/08/2024 20:29

To all of those saying at least it was the owner and not an innocent person while I agree please spare a thought for the paramedics and police officers that had to attend and witness this and will no doubt be effected for some considerable time

I own two large dogs and I'm inclined to agree. We'll never be safe as there's always a way around the legislation.

Well said.

Cantgetausername87 · 21/08/2024 20:31

It's scary though. It's making me afraid of dogs in general, especially when out with my 3 year old. I understand we're a nation of dog lovers but it's time that they really did crack down and destroy as many of them as they can find (I appreciate not all will be registered) but you think what could have happened if that dog escaped

Evenstar · 21/08/2024 20:31

I know of two people who have them around their tiny children/grandchildren ☹️ the father of three children, two of them babies, has pictures of them with the dog and stuff like “Don’t bully our breed” on his Facebook. He’s a very unpleasant young man in person.

I cringe every time there’s an incident in case it’s someone I know, these dogs are just ticking time bombs. They should all have been put down.

Something needs to be done. If you banned ‘large breeds’ where would you draw the line? My golden retriever is a large breed but he weighs 28kg. Some of these bullies are 60kg or more.

BatFaceGrrrll · 21/08/2024 20:39

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. And there's little more stupid than owning one of these dogs

I have a Facebook acquaintance who owns a couple. She has children and grandchildren - one a baby. Her dogs have cutesy funny names (think Stanley and Nellie) and god - they just look so so powerful from the photos she posts of them being played with by her young granddaughter- who's 2.

Makes my blood run cold

Mls1984btc · 21/08/2024 20:40

I failed to see the appeal of this breed. They are rather scary looking creature. Wouldn't like to be in the same space as them - is like a ticking timebomb waiting to explode on you.

Powderpudding · 21/08/2024 20:47

I absolutely love dogs and always have but this breed absolutely terrifies me. They look like pure muscle and I don’t see how they should ever be in a domestic setting.

I'm not a breed expert, obviously. I just think - solve the XL bully problem, and another dog takes its place (unless all the current bully owners are eaten by their dogs, in which case maybe not). So, being proactive and not reactive we should look at dog ownership in the UK, and apply some rules. Any dog capable of overpowering and killing shouldn't really be a family pet. I'm sure other more expert people are better placed than me on the detail.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 21/08/2024 20:51

I pray to God,it doesn't go for any of her 3 under 7 years old children who where stood next to her

I seriously think it should be a safeguarding issue when someone has one of these dogs with children under sixteen in the house.

They are ugly brutes, too; no redeeming features whatsoever.

There was one idiot on my local fb group in a thread about these poor “fur babies” suggesting a get together so owners could walk their xl bullies together for emotional support. Just what we need, a pack of them patrolling the area.
I do feel very sorry for the dogs but reality is that they have been bred for aggression/ fighting/ guarding and generally appeal to the least responsible dog owners.

Emotional support?
Translation when they take their Pitbull type animals at for a walk people in the vicinity look scared and cross the road to get away from the animal. This makes the owner upset, he doesn't want to take his misunderstood Pitbull type animal out without the support of others to calm him down when he gets upset because people are scared of his dog.
It's a cult, there is no other explanation 🤷🏻‍♀️

Coffeekitten · 21/08/2024 21:01

One of my neighbours has an XLB. He walks it with a muzzle and seems to have control over it but I am terrified for when my children are old enough to play out on the street etc.

That's a strange comment to make on a thread like this.

Surely everyone can feel some compassion for anyone (and friends/family) of anyone who dies, especially in such a horrific way.

With regards to this particular breed of dog I can only say (as a big dog lover) that I'd be quite happy if all of these dogs were put to sleep.
