I saw that. Absolutely insane.

It's why there is fuck all point in trying to do anything about this. Just accept it and move on. Probably better off dealing with climate change. Oh, hang on, that's also blocked by a load of arseholes.

It took a lonnnnnnnng time to battle the smokers, and now it is banned indoors.

We will get there, but it will be an effort. Either that, or the pitbulls will eat all their stupid owners, and that's the end of it too.

Smoking is banned indoors. Replaced by dogs. I really don't think it would work the way you'd think.

Not sure there's a correlation, but both choices mostly kill the person responsible for making that choice, which is fine, but sometimes innocents get killed too.

I do think there will be a change, just don't know how long we have to wait or how many other people will die first.

I'm on a circle of local FB groups that covers the area the escaped (now recaptured) dogs were in.

Most comments are hoping the dogs are OK ...

It's sickening isn't it! Dogs hold more value than humans nower days!

Both choices involve the rest of society having to indulge these twats. Either by choking on their foul smoke, or dealing with the tsunami of dog shit that (if I had my way) would be forced down owners throats. With brambles.

And when you've had to clean all 45 wheels on a wheelchair, plus the dog shit it wheeled into the house (no choice) you would agree with me that I am really far too soft.

Having to creep around your own streets for fear of these brutes just adds insult to injury.

I hope by now that the dogs are dead. As in humanely destroyed. They are a feckin menace. The loons on Facebook worried about them should be ashamed of themselves.

Well that's your first problem right there. In fact they may never be.

Missing the point entirely here, but I didn't know wheelchairs have 45 wheels!

Awful 😢 but rather an owner (who chose to take the risk) than a child in the home or a random person who had no choice.

I agree with you.

Everytime I read about these attacks it always seems to be someone who has only had the dogs for a short time, every time. I'm not coming down on either side but this guy was looking after the dog for a friend, he'd only had it about a week. The dogs are massive powerful animals and these people don't know their history, don't know their temperament and don't know if they've ever bitten before. I've yet to read of an attack where the dog has had the same owner since being a puppy. They're either 'looking after them for a mate' or bought them for a quid in the pub. Knowing that these dogs can be a favorite of a certain type of person (not including all the owners in this) cause of how they look, it's easy to imagine, they haven't been properly trained, socialised or looked after. It also makes you wonder why they're being given away in the first place. The new laws mean they can't be given to anyone else by their owners anyway, so it shouldn't have even been in his house. I would not take a full grown dog from someone regardless of breed or size without knowing its history. The problem being small dogs can bite and maim, but these dogs are so powerful they will kill you if they lose control.

LaDamaDeElche · 23/08/2024 22:05

StanLeeCameo so why is this problem so widespread in the U.K. only then? As I said in my first post, we don't have this problem with these dogs in Spain.

LaDamaDeElche · 24/08/2024 08:47

StanLeeCameo You are being obtuse now. In my posts I said that it probably has happened, but this isn't a frequently occurring thing like in the U.K. where every week there's an attack. It just isn't. Posting two links isn't proving it is. They are isolated incidents. No breed of dog is banned her and these types of breeds are common pets. So again, the problem is the breed/owners in the U.K., not the breed itself.

Spanish population smaller than here, don't have as many bully breeds either.

Turns out the neighbours had been complaining about the dangerous dogs in Brum for over a year. With tiresome predictability fuck all was done.

If you read Spanish @LaDamaDeElche then this article looks at the two countries.

https://www.abc.es/sociedad/cuantos-perros-american-bully-espana-20240202121222-nt.html

Basically, 10 times as many of these things in the UK (or just England, they always get the two mixed up) and in Spain there are already rules about muzzling larger dogs in public.

Misthios · 24/08/2024 09:02

Although that ABC article is very much "overreaction by government, they're lovely dogs". 🙄🙄

Basically, 10 times as many of these things in the UK (or just England, they always get the two mixed up) and in Spain there are already rules about muzzling larger dogs in public Are there not laws for that in the U.K. about muzzling certain breeds in public? Interesting that he describes the ones he has had experience with as exhibiting calm behaviour and describes them as a noble breed. I haven't personally owned this breed, but a neighbour has one and my DP's cousin does too and they are both lovely, calm dogs.

SerendipityJane · 24/08/2024 09:23

Which part ? England and Wales ? Scotland ? Or Northern Ireland ?
