No but withdrawal of treatment will depend on the UN coming back with a response. Which is why although the hope is that they will come back quickly, there are no guarantees. One case isn’t really that important to the UN in the scheme of things, so I wouldn’t be quick to expect a response. And in the meantime we are giving power to the UN which in turn sets a dangerous precedent for future cases.

Thank you @1blossomtree Im not sure I expressed my qu in the clearest way. If a patient has no prospect of recovery or survival and has no brain function, then it seems both cruel to them, and their families, as well as potentially depriving someone else of those resources who might need them in order to recover.

Definitely @Infinsplititive , all these hearings must be tortuous for the the family, constantly raising their hopes. I don't see how they could go ahead with withdrawal of support at 2pm now, if they think there's a chance a hearing this morning will be in support of them, it seems too cruel.

MaggieFS · 01/08/2022 10:05

@1blossomtree Thanks; I hadn't realised there needed to be a court order to continue life support but I guess that makes sense if the most recent ruling was to stop it.

I agree the UN are unlikely to take a long time unnecessarily.

This Tiktok challenge definitely existed in the past.

DD said friends in school were trying the blackout challenge a couple of years ago.

There was evidence of 1000's trying these challenges.

Not saying that it happened that way with Archie but I can confirm it definitely existed.

I think the way he was found has thrown the doubts into it being a challenge. Or he took it too far..guess when it's all over it'll be looked into more or if no further evidence left how it is? Who knows. Think it was a family member or friend who suggested the idea to her.

Why is giving power setting a dangerous precedent? That's what was signed up to when the UK chose to voluntarily join the protocol.

I suppose the difficulty here is the person making the claim has never substantiated it or explained why they thought he was taking part in an online challenge.

The Court of Appeal hearing is scheduled for 11:00 BST - three hours before care is due to end at 14:00. His mother said she wanted a "realistic time" for her child to recover.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62373605

He has no prospect of recovery, it's all so sad.

Monkeychimp1 · 01/08/2022 10:18

Is the UN move the absolute last ditch attempt from the Christian lawyers? Surely there are no more avenues left open to them, in which case they will be dropping the family like a ton of bricks very soon.

If Hollie finds herself needing legal representation once the inquest starts CSL will be nowhere to be seen.

Monkeychimp1 · 01/08/2022 10:20

Sorry CLC not CSL

BongoJim · 01/08/2022 10:20

It's things like this that seem so futile.

"I just think while Archie's progressing, I think it's important that evidence is actually put before a court. That he's progressing, not deteriorating like the doctor said that he would."

There is a church called the “Christian life centre” aka CLC. I’d be changing my name if I were them.

But she's said before she knows he won't recover and it's a matter of time though that was said in Court..

RoobarbandCustud · 01/08/2022 10:27

Just feeling so so desperate for Archie's close family, especially Hollie his Mum. The "fight" is delaying her grieving, she risks being stuck raging forever, believing that Archie was killed by the NHS and state, rather than a tragedy that happened when he put the dressing gown cord round his neck and hung. When Archie dies and everyone else moves on, the Doctors, the "army" the lawyers, nurses, journalists and SM commentators etc she will at some point return to that agonisingly empty house where she saw her son in the stairwell, where she tried to save him. I hope the CLC have some funds left to help her move house if she needs to. A cursory look at her social media shows she has not always behaved well towards people trying to help Archie since that day, but she is devastated. I hope she is helped to protect her own privacy in the coming days. My heart goes out to her.

I’m surprised that some new “evidence” didn’t emerge over the weekend of Archie’s fight for life.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 01/08/2022 10:28

Yes. I don't think it was the case in this situation with Archie, he had no phone and was hanging from a height.

Unfortunately it isn’t uncommon for DC with SEN to attempt suicide.

What is the TikTok trend blackout?

"The blackout challenge is a popular internet trend that challenges participants to strangle themselves until they pass out, then upload the video to TikTok. The risky online challenge has existed for a long time and has also been referred to as "The Game of Choking," "Speed Dreaming," or "The Fainting Game."9 Jul 2022

TidyDancer · 01/08/2022 10:28

I think the mum knows the truth of the situation but doesn't want to face it. Which is totally understandable.

What isn't, is the abuse the medical staff have faced and the vile behaviour of some connected to the family and so-called army towards anyone who has refused to tow the party line.

It's an incredibly sad case but there really is no hope of recovery and the family know this.

I hope Archie is now allowed to rest with dignity.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 01/08/2022 10:29

It’s so frustrating that it’s become the dominant narrative when it seems to have just been plucked out of thin air. I can understand why, of course, because the alternative is so distressing, but it seems deeply unfair to Archie to portray him as having had so little common sense and agency and made what amounts to a tragically foolish mistake — when in reality it sounds like he was struggling with some complex emotions.

I’m not saying he did fully understand what he was doing (I of course have no idea and also, he was a child). I just really dislike the insistent representation of it as mindless “TikTok craze” stuff gone wrong.

MayThe4th · 01/08/2022 10:30

Surely there are no more avenues left open to them, in which case they will be dropping the family like a ton of bricks very soon. well, I suppose there is God. Although you’d think that with them being Christian’s (and I use the term in its loosest sense,) they would have started with him first.

I'm more surprised that he's 'progressing' after being brain steam dead and not regaining consciousness for 3 months. It's statements like that which make me think she must be seeing something completely different when she is posting pictures online of him in his current condition.

Insanity that sky news are allowing her to refer to it as an "execution" with no gentle interjection from interviewers

Ms Dance told Sky News: "They handed the letter over on Saturday night with the choreographed execution of my son."

She said there was "no meeting", or sit-down with the information broken to them "gently". Ms Dance said they were handed the letter and "just left to deal with our own feelings".

This is also blatantly not true - in the letter it states it was being sent after they had spoke to Hollie the previous evening. I actually find it quite upsetting the media are happy to go along with slander against the hospital.

MayThe4th · 01/08/2022 10:38

It's statements like that which make me think she must be seeing something completely different when she is posting pictures online of him in his current condition. either that, or she is being fed the narative by the people she is engaging with i.e. fundamental Christians.

I know people like this. I have a “friend” from school who posts these miracle posts on facebook. You know the ones, “there was this prayer event and a mother took her child to be prayed for. He had never walked or talked since he was born and he was 3 years old. And as soon as the paster laid hands on him to pray he opened his eyes and jumped up and shouted “mummy” while running round the stage for the first time.” That was almost word for word one of the posts she put up there, and she, and so many like her, are so indoctrinated that they actually believe it happened.

Sadly Archie's court case is and will be a major legal precedent, so understanding this process and the subsequent final outcome will be in the public interest, as much as the family should also be given privacy.

I've posted this before, but sadly much loved and treasured children die every day due to illness or injury, so it seems unfair to me that so many resources are being used on this one child when there is no hope of recovery. I'd understand the parents if Archie's actions/accidents was recent, but he hasn't regained consciousness since April! I had a baby in April so I understand this timeline pretty well.

It's time to let him go and look at the legal system to prevent something like this from happening again.

Soubt it will be a legal precedent. The issues, though tragic, sadly are standard

Wasn’t Kay burley per chance was it?

Either way sky news is like tabloid tv. They should be reported to ofcom IMO..
