This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

The comments on GOSH's page underneath their statement are really interesting. So much support for GOSH and 'exposure' of CA practices.

So , in the guise of warning their supporters off from issuing death threats to the wonderful, beleaguered, doctors and nurses caring for Charlie, lg has now subtly implied that it is c&c who have had the death threats, and that any threats to the staff at the hospital must have come from opponents, for want of any other word- who want to sour public opinion against the Barmy. The whole thing is mad beyond belief. And so very cunning.

There is a support gosh thing going now - I am a Facebook numpty but supported it. The image is of the gosh cartoon with a blue tear drop.

It just goes to show how subtly powerful sm is. I was coming to the view , as stated by a pp, that to keep re posting their stuff was damaging, and inflating its importance. And here am I doing just that .

People have started commenting that they are unhappy with their childs treatment too.

C and C have not had a workable relationship with GOSH since January. That predates CA. It is the reason CA and fundraising started.

GOSH has doors. They can get security for the doors and entrances if they need to but it is a waste of precious funds.

As someone who works in mental health and spent years working with patients with psychosis, I find CA a grimly fascinating phenomenon. I truly believe that that they would meet the criteria for being delusional in that no amount of evidence will dissuade them from their opinion.
I have known hundreds of patients who have delusional beliefs. There are certain delusions that are quite common e.g. that someone has planted cameras in the person's home or that relatives are trying to poison their food. People suffering from mania will often have grandiose delusions e.g. that they can heal people by touching them or that they are related to the Royal Family. Other people will have completely randomly delusions. I have met people who believe:
That their cat is the reincarnation of Winston Churchill;
That Barack Obama is the devil;
That there is a set of otters living in their rectum;
That their partner or child has been replaced by an imposter;
That someone is placing heroin in their deodorant;
That someone breaks into their flat when they are out and uses their clothes to wipe their arse on;
That they ate a kebab that someone had ejaculated into and are now pregnant.
I could go on and on and on.
In the case of all these people, they are surrounded by exasperated family and friends telling them that they are talking rubbish and trying to reason with them - not that it makes any difference, you absolutely can't reason someone out of a delusion. Delusional people will come up with secondary delusions e.g. I had a patient who totally believed that she was the Queen. If anyone asked her why, if she was the Queen, was she living in a council flat? she would be able to give reasons.
In CA's case, you have people who are deluded and colluding with each other's delusions. They will never respond to reason.

I don't think taking GOSH's 'side' in this is a good idea. The legal processes are adversarial enough. I actually can believe that death threats have been sent to everyone involved because it seems to be normal to do this now.

CY has commented on the GOSH FB post. She said that they have said many times that they don't condone the threats sent to GOSH, bit GOSH should say they don't condone the threats sent to them.

@Alfieisnoisy posts keep getting deleted? I didn't see the first one but the last one was hardly report worthy?

MNHQ clamping down heavily on any criticism, even very mild or oblique, of the family's actions wrt to management of the FB page and comments on it.

Just looked at Christian Jessen's Twitter feed and the comments under his tweet about the protests outside the hospital. The Ohmygosh account appears to belong to someone very, very stupid.

Have I been blocked if it says the page is unavailable with a yellow and blue kinda robot figures?

We're not going to be able to talk about this at all soon.

Maybe we should all just back away. It's coming to a close now soon I think - one way or... well the same outcome anyway.

MN certainly isn't the place where motivations or actions can be discussed freely. I doubt it will ever be allowed tbh, going off other high profile cases and the kid glove treatment they receive.

The police need to step on fast and make some arrests. This is just madness.

Disturbances inside the hospital are unlikely to be Randoms from CA.
