Charlie Gard 13

This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

I read part of the last thread but missed a couple of threads completely - been busy and unwell and not really been on mumnset for a few days.

I cannot believe how much this is being dragged out and how many people now seem to be involved with this case. It's gone from being a case where the Doctors were making the decisions they thought best for Charlie to a worldwide media circus with everyone throwing their views in. It's almost like Charlie's needs have been lost sight of amongst all the 'parents rights' and 'America's got better doctors' debates going on.

Ultimately there is just a small boy who is at the centre of the this and his parents who are living every parents worst nightmare. I have tried not to post anything on my FB as I have a lot of friends who have disabled children and some bereaved parents, parents who had to make the decision Charlie's parents are facing. I don't think it's fair to rake open raw wounds.

Chris and Connie seem to be clutching at every tiny little shred of hope, no matter that it may be false hope. I can't blame them for that but there will be no bike riding happy ending.

TheWeeWitch · 21/07/2017 09:46

Thread 13! Thanks Mucky.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 21/07/2017 10:00

Went out with three friends last night (different ones to the ones I talked to before). All of them were under the "nasty gosh kills baby and denies cure" impression. I may have monologued at them a little, but after facts (and big words Grin ), all three said he should be allowed to die.

Really annoys me that the media keep allowing this impression to be reinforced

0nline · 21/07/2017 10:02

that is not good

A phrase that accurately describes a fair old wedge of local Italian politics.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/07/2017 10:02

Thank you for the new thread mucky

SomeDyke · 21/07/2017 10:07

"there will be no bike riding happy ending."
I keep wondering who the little girl from that poster was, what is her real story, and will she forever be known as the unknown girl who, unlike Charlie, was 'saved' or 'cured'. It would be terrible if her story was different or has been grossly misrepresented, and that is never heard, just the bike girl who could have saved Charlie..............I would feel happier if we at least knew her parents were happy for her pictures to be used and her illness had not been misrepresented or misunderstood. After all, CA are more than happy to use those blue-lit buildings for autism etc and appropriate them..............

Just to add done search by image, nothing found and only an image of the Charlie 'a cure is possible' poster as a whole found and no more info. She deserves her own story and struggle to be respected!

blueskyinmarch · 21/07/2017 10:09

Thanks for the new thread. Will come and catch up later.
