Number of those who perished feared to rise into triple figures as search proceeds Flowers

Names of those still missing start to emerge Flowers
Nearly 80 victims being treated across six hospitals, with 15 still in critical care Flowers
Hundreds of people displaced and dispossessed, concerned about when and where they will be rehoused Flowers

I think Q would have gone whether or not TM or whoever had gone.

Q visited dc on ward of hospital in Manchester too, its nothing to do with TM.

Cant believe how people are trying to shoehorn in a political stance here. If anything why on earth didnt labour - the champions of the poor look at all of this when they were in power after - all - the longest gov in power in recent times and the champions of the poor.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 12:44

It gives some reassurance to the victims I hope that if there has been criminal neglect, then the LFB and police will make sure they are brought to justice.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 12:45

I am glad a criminal investigation has been launched every single type of investigation needs to be launched to cover each and every base.

peaceout · 16/06/2017 12:46

The Queen showing up is a huge FU to TM. If there is ever a moment to be thankful for having a monarch this is it. Her visit was political in terms of sending a clear signal that she doesn't agree with the way the politicians are handling this

You're exactly right I totally get it, but for me the royals personify the privileged few vs the masses fighting for crumbs
I know there are still cap doffers with a gawd bless em view
But not everyone sees it like that

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2017 12:46

"No evidence that fire was started on purpose. But if any evidence of criminality, police are investigating. You get the impression that they very much feel this event was criminal."

You get the wrong impression.

They are investigating the possibility of criminal negligence in management and construction.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 12:47

Cote - read my subsequent posts where I clarified that post.

Tiredemma · 16/06/2017 12:49

The conflict of interest is dreadful. How can you represent the interest of tenants if you are on the board of the body that tenants have a problem with?

I saw the new K&C MP on a TV interview with Jon Snow and she wasn't talking as if she had any attachments to KCTMO at all.

Want2bSupermum · 16/06/2017 12:50

As for the legislation on housing for human habitation. It was horrible worded and didn't apply to all LLs. The version I saw excluded HAs.

We have strict occupancy limits. A one bed can have a max of 4 people, a two bed 6 and a three bed 8. In reality we manage our residents and tell them that if pregnant tell us at 12 weeks so we have a chance to get them into a bigger unit before the baby arrives. However most residents don't tell us and its the employees responding to a maintenance issue that report it to us. We have a strict policy that employees have to report it to management and we go talk to them in person because they are usually in fear (and there is no need to be because there are things you can do to avoid the bedroom tax issue if the LL really wants to). We also are charging rents well below the HB maximums unlike nearly every other HA.

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2017 12:51

You didn't clarify anything. It's not at all clear that you understand nobody thinks the fire was started deliberately.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 12:53

Ok I'll spell it out. He said NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER THAT FIRE WAS STARTED DELIBERATELY. On a separate issue of potential criminality, they are investigating. Does that satisfy you or can you not bloody read.

Scribblegirl · 16/06/2017 12:57

The queen going down there and TM not reminds me of when Diana died and the royals were tucked away, ignoring the cries to address the people. How weird the world turns.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/06/2017 12:58

I think if the queen hadn't turned up the anti monarchists would have had plenty of criticism too.

Personally I think they were right to go.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 13:00

I am glad the queen went. It's the least she could do. Since TM didn't bother her hole meeting them, the victims would have been pleased to see someone cared.

peaceout · 16/06/2017 13:02

When Diana died and the royals were in the firing line they retreated to a safe distance rather than face the music
Looks like TM is doing the same now that she's in the firing line

Both ran for cover to avoid confrontation with the masses

peaceout · 16/06/2017 13:03

The Queen is only there because she's not in the firing line

chumpchange · 16/06/2017 13:04

I'm a republican but I definitely think the Queen was right to go. She's a familiar face and a politically neutral one. And she has a
lifetime of experience in dealing with people who have suffered/are suffering immensely. Sometimes, too, the most important thing is to be seen to be there (Theresa May take note). When everything is uncertain, many people take comfort in the sight of a familiar person doing his/her thing.

BarchesterFlowers · 16/06/2017 13:08

The prime minister is paid to be in the firing line, if she isn't prepared to stand up and be counted she shouldn't be in the job she is in.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 13:09

TM doesn't seem to see these as victims at all. I despise her.

brexitstolemyfuture · 16/06/2017 13:12

Mail are reporting on dozens of similar properties that are potentially death traps. They need to start ripping off lots of that cladding asap! Heaven knows what could happen if people targeted more towers like this Sad

TeaCake5 · 16/06/2017 13:13

TM giving as much of a shit about poorer people as any tory pm or minister has ever done. What is the betting the site of these flats will be used for a "mixed use" development I. E luxury flats for investors.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 13:14

Yy chump, everything you said.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 16/06/2017 13:14

I suspect that having a 'criminal investigation' just allows the police to ask more questions and access more information than they would be able to under normal circumstances.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 13:16

Well none of the surviving residents will want to set foot in a high rise block again. A little park and memorial would be the most appropriate thing.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 13:16

As I said there are only a handful of high rise here, but on looking into it they have been refurb'ed in the last few years and have similar looking cladding. I have contacted the council and relevant MPs to check they are on the case.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 13:17

Even where the building is accessible, processing what is for now considered to be a crime scene will delay the removal of bodies, as everything inside the building has to be considered as evidence.
