He's got the support of redneck Americans who want white supremacy and want to keep America for Americans. They also support gun laws, the death penalty and the ku klux klan. I know a few American residents who are like that, ironically they are all immigrants.

And another

"But Rothwell also found a second factor that correlates highly with Trump support:

This analysis provides clear evidence that those who view Trump favorably are disproportionately living in racially and culturally isolated zip codes and commuting zones. Holding other factors constant, support for Trump is highly elevated in areas with few college graduates, far from the Mexican border, and in neighborhoods that stand out within the commuting zone for being white, segregated enclaves, with little exposure to blacks, Asians, and Hispanics.

In other words, race is important. Rothwell, discussing what is known to social scientists as “contact theory,” essentially argues that living in overwhelmingly white enclaves increases one’s chances of being a racist, as “Limited interactions with racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants, and college graduates may contribute to prejudicial stereotypes, political and cultural misunderstandings, and a general fear of rejection and not belonging.”"

Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Trump's weakness among younger voters is unprecedented, lower even than the 32% of the vote that the Gallup Organization calculates Richard Nixon received among 18-to-29-year-old voters in 1972, an era of youthful protests against the Vietnam War

That is good to hear, the young of USA are doing the right thing.

So, the big shocker Trump was going to reveal was that he is Putin's puppet?
Who'd have thought? Wink

"Trump's weakness among younger voters is unprecedented"

Just as young Brits were mostly anti-Brexit.

Sadly, however, they were less inclined to stir their stumps and turn out to vote, so the old curmudgeons defeated them.

Hopefully the younger voters will be worried about Trump.

Although, at some point he might be arrested by Homeland Security. Grin

I came across a report from four years ago when Trump was making a massive deal about how he was about to produce absolutely shocking revelations about Obama that would blow him out of the water. We seem to be still waiting for that one, so I won't hold my breath for the revelations about Clinton.

I'm not even all that afraid of what will happen if Trump DOES manage to get in. I assume Congress will tie his hands like they did Obama's.

What scares me is coming to terms with my beloved country being the kind of place that would vote him in in the first place.

He could still cause all sorts of problems outside the US.

And it's not good that he does seem to have a, shall we say, fondness for Putin (regardless of allegations or not).

But, yes, most of his bullshit relates to how little he can actually do, particularly if he alienates his own party, regardless of his promises.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2016 12:26

CheerfulYank, sadly although they would be able to tie his hands, they wouldn't be able to tape his mouth up. What he says is hugely inciting for those who believe his rhetoric and how he is interpreted by other world leaders is greatly worrying.

Oh yes. And that's what I said about his horrible 2nd amendment remarks. He may have skirted the law, but he HAS to know what his rabid fans are like. He HAS to know that they are willing to commit actual real life violence on his say so. He just doesn't care.

I'm baffled by his popularity. If any other presidential candidate had had five children by three partners, their campaign wouldn't have got off the ground, for starters. And saying what he said about McCain?! NO ONE else would have gotten away with that.

Also he would despise most of his rabid supporters in real life. He doesn't know anything about their lives, struggles, and culture and he wouldn't care to. It's just a means to an end.

I guess that is the fundamental question - I get that there are irrational angry people who suddenly find they have a voice - but how is he getting away with this both legally and amongst the republican part as a whole?

Trump now seems to think that people are obliged to vote for him.

uk.reuters.com/video/2016/08/14/trump-says-hell-never-ever-forgive-voter?videoId=369565862

This is starting to become genuinely frightening, although I suppose that would imply he wasn't frightening before. There's very serious threat of violence if he (hopefully) loses.

I don't want him to win...GOD, do I not want him to win! The very idea makes me seethe with rage.

But am I scared of what his supporters will do if he loses? Hell yes I am.

"I'll never forgive them... But I love them anyway" [brain quickly backtracking]

And he's repeating the ISIS claims. Ignoring that ISIS has been shrinking lately and under Obama too.

ISIS used a blitzkrieg-like approach, taking over unstable but also largely peaceful regions very quickly. Yes, it has been hard to push them back, but it has been done, in multiple and international fronts.
www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-27838034
"Since then, IS has lost approximately 40% of the populated territory it once held in Iraq, and 10-20% of the populated territory it had seized in Syria, according to the US." - Syria has been the most difficult to address due to the local civil war anyway.

Did you see the following news on that site? uk.reuters.com/video/2016/08/14/imam-associate-shot-to-death-in-new-york?videoId=369565863&videoChannel=75&channelName=Top+News

Imam, associate shot to death in New York. Sad

I hope it has nothing to do with Trump's hate campaign.

It's like a story I read earlier in the year about how he helped some woman.
He got other people to donate money, and he just got the limelight, having given her nothing.

He barely puts anything into his own charitable foundation, only a few tens of thousands of dollars if that. I bet he uses it to claim tax relief, though.
Where are those tax forms, BTW?
