Just in case people want to continue discussing this.

The women of Europe need to unite and stop the disposable misogynistic bastards treating us like dirt. As a start I suggest we all start carrying tasers and use them when we can't keep unwanted male attention at arms length.

polentapies · 07/01/2016 22:31

Honestly, I don't give a fuck where they were from. but lets face it, no outcome is not going to be good is it? The facts are that 100's of men attacked 100's of women. WTAF?

So we can speculate as to who it was, and certainly, we have been a bit scolded for doing so. But the fact is .......SOMEONE DONE IT (sic)

AnthonyBlanche · 07/01/2016 22:32

Despicable, not disposable!

Wordsaremything · 07/01/2016 22:33

I hate to think what Katie Hopkins has written

All that should be in bold .

So did I . Believe me , I am the person you'd think least likely to click on her nasty vituperative self serving attention seeking right wing nonsense. ( please see my post on the first page) Then I did. Although I suspect her latest piece was cannily written by someone else - very clever d f - that matters little. I found myself agreeing .

polentapies · 07/01/2016 22:36

Word
Yes, and you know the one about the broken clock being right twice a day

She is a vulture.

Chipstick10 · 07/01/2016 22:38

Maybe certain governments need to stop letting every tom dick and Harry into the country . Yes merkal I mean you. Did anyone consult the people of Germany before the massive influx ?

LunaLodbrok · 07/01/2016 22:40

No polenta, no outcome will definitely not be good. With the way they have coordinated it, it seems it will be difficult to identify them but I hope there will be a way. The thought of them getting away with it is sickening.

polentapies · 07/01/2016 22:41

No QT. MPs must still be on hols

I will say nothing

AnthonyBlanche · 07/01/2016 22:46

Shall I just buy a burka and get it over with? Europe's governments may be desperate to cover it up but Cologne proves that many Muslim men have NO respect for white women - or the cultures of the countries they are invading

the above is the headline from the Katie Hopkins article. Apart perhaps from the use of the word invading what she has written is very accurately reflected in the posts on this thread. Wonder if she read the thread before writing the article?

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 07/01/2016 22:47

Merkel did what she thought was humane at the time of the refugee crisis. I wouldn't be surprised if a fair number of the women attacked were among those who marched to take in more refugees at the time.

Being pro-migrant and pro-women's rights needn't be mutually exclusive.

LunaLodbrok · 07/01/2016 22:48

La Hopkins states that the mayor said the following, 'The Mayor of Cologne blames the women. She says German women should cover up, keep men at arm’s length and think about wearing something over our heads. She may as well just say 'buy a burka' and be done with it.' Did she say the mayor say those things? I know she said the thing about keeping men at arm's length.

Fishboneschokus · 07/01/2016 22:52

Does anyone know how this news is reported in Saudi Arabia?

Fishboneschokus · 07/01/2016 22:54

Or how the news is received in SA?

There was a poster on the last thread who lives there.

Pinkchampchoccies · 07/01/2016 22:54

Gosh, I am catching up with the thread and I cannot believe Luna's posts. She is like a dog with a bone. Her comments do not add anything constructive at all. She reads what she wants to read and I think she has this thread confused with the comments section of the DM. She wants us to believe that she has got it all sassed out and we are to be enlightened by her special insight. Interesting how she ignores all the sensible posts Hmm.

I will ignore her 'contributions' henceforth, they are plain silly and not on topic and only serve to derail a reflective and constructive discussion. Hmm It reminds me a little bit of the recent protest March outside UCL which was organised by the Socialist Party. They had all sorts of commendable slogans. After the march it was up to the capitalist council to clean up hundreds of paper banners and masses of other rubbish that had been left behind by the organisers spread all over the street. Slightly deluded and not as enlightened and responsible as they'd love to see themselves.

Smalllegs, there are children that have travelled alone from Afghanistan to Europe. Do you include them as 'fitter'? What about the many Syrian families that have travelled to Europe? The little girl my husband met blind in one eye from a bomb, is she fitter? People have travelled to Europe with all kinds of injuries, some with legs blown off. Sounds like a bollocks theory.

Perhaps the Swedish figures that suggest that it is predominantly young single men are wrong. But do you have an objection to the policy of picking up refugees from the border? If so, what is it? It stands to reason that some people will not survive the journey and that others will travel faster if still with great difficulty particularly if they are young, fit and not bringing other family with them. I have no objection to young single men I just worry who has been left behind.

Duckdeamon · 07/01/2016 22:57

So the guardian et al are tied in knots and barring comments, whereas the Daily Mail - anti-women and anti-immigration - plumps for covering it?

polentapies · 07/01/2016 23:06

Read the news yourself Luna, I'm not explaining it to you

LunaLodbrok · 07/01/2016 23:10

Smalllegs, the number of lone men accepted into various countries must differ. In terms of those on refugee route I would say at least half are families. My husband went to Serbia twice and saw a lot of families. He said 60 per cent were Syrian families. He also went to Idomeni. There were a lot of Syrians and Syrian families there again, also many lone men. Many lone men from Afghanistan and Iran.

I think being physically stronger helps in terms of getting away, but being financially stronger is a big part of it. People sellproperty or land I think sometimes so the economically weaker are left behind. If those 'stuck' there could be picked up I would be happy. The images of starving people and kids just wishing they had a piece of bread are haunting. There is a city that was on ch 4 news where food had been blocked and there was nothing left to eat.

I think the EU has given money to Turkey to deal with refugees there and keep them there. Turkey has also been forcing people back to Syria that are trying to escape. Weak or strong, rich or poor, it is hard to judge any for wanting to get out.

fourmummy · 07/01/2016 23:12

Merkel did what she thought was humane at the time of the refugee crisis. But did she? Something doesn't feel right and I have always been puzzled by her decision:

  1. very callous to send the message that you can come in if you make it to us alive
  2. no comment or change of decision when it became obvious that it was/is mostly young men were coming. What does that say about their treatment of women/children?
  3. We need workers so we'll just take these men. We need workers although stats show unlikely to work
  4. "We'll cope" even though stats show that the future does not look good for settled life, assimilation and integration
  5. why Europe (alongside some, but not all, ME candidates) given the hardships of assimilation. Why not flex some muscle with other, more compatible and nearer countries?

None of that is particularly humane. I would love for this to be a humane act but i have my reservations. It seems more callous than humane. But what is it then? What's driving this?

Pinkchampchoccies · 07/01/2016 23:14

"Similarly Finnish police have revealed an unusually high level of sexual harassment in Helsinki on New Year’s Eve and said they had been tipped off about plans by groups of asylum seekers to sexually harass women."

"But what is it then? What's driving this?"

That is the million Dollar question. There are probably political reasons, maybe to do with Russia or SA. But Europe is fucked either way. We are at the beginning of a new era. Not sure if allow myself to be too optimistic ert what this will mean.

AnthonyBlanche · 07/01/2016 23:19

The news and stories coming out are horrifying. I really do think that the women of Europe need to unite and get the message across that these sort of attacks and assaults cannot be tolerated. As others have said, if it was white men being attacked Europe would be in uproar.

Anyone got any suggestions about how to kick start some sort of Europe wide solidarity campaign?

The BBC are asking for comments about what happened in Cologne - it's in their "Have your say" section. No comments have been put up yet. (Maybe they are only looking stories from women who were there?)
