A new thread following on from the previous one in Chat here

OP posts:

Susie Henderson is astonishingly strong and brave to come forward. What an abhorrent childhood.

As much as these stories need to be told, and encouraging that MSM is still acting, I still find it excruciatingly distasteful to read articles like that, next to that sidebar of shame.

kissmyheathenass · 14/08/2014 11:09

I am surprised the Hollie Grieg case isn't mentioned on MN. Has it been discredited or have any mentions of her name been removed?

GarlicAugustus · 14/08/2014 12:59

I can't say, Nightsky. They've suffered extensive emotional damage and aren't willing to talk :( I'm not a professional therapist, so can say what I like, but I think they would consider I've broken their confidence already. The daughter & I felt people should know exactly how relaxed & commonplace this is ... their family friends were just the same. All BBC/celeb/politician based in their case, but we have every reason to believe business people, police and other professions are the same. It takes a while to get your head round just how mammoth (and monstrous) it is.

Some leading psychiatrists say that if this stopped today, mental illness & social problems would be all but wiped out.

I helped 'onmydeathbed' make an anonymous report to Exaro, hence her post. I wish all victims the courage that Susie Henderson has found.

GarlicAugustus · 14/08/2014 13:03

The Hollie Grieg accusations were discredited Hmm

mignonette · 14/08/2014 13:03

Police are searching a property belonging to Cliff Richard in connection witgh historical allegations of sexual assault against a minor. BBC news has just reported on the radio.

creekyknees · 14/08/2014 13:04

I didnt think they'd ever have the bollocks to investigate him and make it public Shock

GarlicAugustus · 14/08/2014 13:08

Ironic that the BBC's having to report on it!

DoctorTwo · 14/08/2014 13:13

Having heard rumours about him over the past ten or so years from people who lived near him I'm not in the least surprised.

About bloody time.

Sorry I have been away from the thread for a bit! It's back to school for us next week, been dipping in and out of MN.

creekyknees · 14/08/2014 13:15

It beats me what they think they will find in his house!

Maybe they should look a bit closer to home and see what info has been carefully stored or lost in filing cabinets around our corrupt country Hmm

mignonette · 14/08/2014 13:15

Yes a handy distraction from the fact that to date no top politicians, judges, members of the police or social services have been charged. Amazing that.

mignonette · 14/08/2014 13:16

Creeky

More chance of finding Shergar me thinks.

creekyknees · 14/08/2014 13:18

Thats cos they've all got dementia, a very convenient get out clause.

I wonder how Cliffs mental health is doing.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 14/08/2014 13:21

They probably have a pecking list of those to the slaughter:

Dead Celebrity DJ
Old celebrity DJ
Middle aged DJ
Dead Politician from minor party
Old Celebrity has been
Old Celebrity Christmas crooner
Old Politician from minor party (nearly dead)
End of investigation.

nauticant · 14/08/2014 13:24

It beats me what they think they will find in his house!

People keep all kinds of stuff for all kinds or reasons and it's well worth the Police checking thoroughly:

PausingFlatly · 14/08/2014 13:29

Thought I'd let you know I'm another lurker, rather than just bookmarking.

I can't devote any energy to this at the moment, but am grateful to you all for posting so it's there for me to read.

creekyknees · 14/08/2014 13:32

I always think the Max Clifford thing was a bit convenient.

The man who held a thousand secrets on all of them is neatly packed away in prison for years and totally discredited so no one will believe a word he says when he's released Hmm

WallyBantersJunkBox · 14/08/2014 13:42

Very interesting post Creaky

kissmyheathenass · 14/08/2014 14:39

Garlic, were the Hollie Greig allegations reliably discredited? I did read something about a hoax but then that could all be staged too. I don't really know what to believe any more.

Cliff Richard is no surprise but I agree with Mignonette, it's a handy distraction. Names on the internet implicated in this go right to the very top of the establishment.

GarlicAugustus · 14/08/2014 14:59

Garlic, were the Hollie Greig allegations reliably discredited?

Impossible to tell without making it the centre of my life! Not only did all the usual 'cover up' things happen - lost evidence; investigators who were implicated; concerted efforts to prove her mother an insane drug addict - but there was an ugly falling-out between two of the most vocal activists.

It is probably even easier to confuse a survivor with Down's Syndrome than an NT survivor (although it could be said no survivor of CSA is properly neurotypical.) However, since therapists became wary of supporting people to recover memories of abuse, their mantra is now "If you think you were sexually abused as a child, you probably were." Hollie thought she was.

Simatmum · 14/08/2014 22:29

creakyknees being in prison doesn't shut people up. They can have visitors, talk on the phone, see legal visitors and talk to other prisoners. Many prisoners who have committed sex offences, once sentenced, start bringing everyone else down with them. Police will be happy to visit Max Clifford if he wants to make any statements, with his solicitor present.

ThisOnesForYou · 14/08/2014 22:34

Thanks to everyone posting on here and sharing links. Like others I'm really struggling to take in the scale of all of this and the fact that it's not being discussed more (apart from the obvious Cliff/Rolf/etc.).

I know a few of you have mentioned that people in RL are reluctant to talk about it. Could it be they're sort of burying their head in the sand as it's all so enormously horrendous they don't really know how to talk about it?

It all leaves me feeling so helpless and hopeless but this thread needs to be kept going.

ThatsNotAKnifeThatsASpoon · 15/08/2014 07:31

Garlic et al: another one reading, and reeling. Just found this and the previous thread after CF hit the news yesterday. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I agree in the news is not a great place for such an important thread as this. What about parenting, or even better, any chance we can squeeze aibu into the title & shift it there where everyone will see it?!

LatinForTelly · 15/08/2014 14:36

And also to let you know, I am another one reading when I can. (Can't bring myself to read any of the detail except the woman who is now in South Africa, her statement linked to up there ^^.)

I agree about throwing us has-been celebrities (although of course they should be investigated), to divert us from the rot ingrained within the establishment.

What can we do - apart from signing petitions? Is there something we can do in big enough number that they can't target individuals for retribution?
