A new thread following on from the previous one in Chat here

OP posts:
GarlicJulyKit · 26/07/2014 23:28

Still here, too. I'm having to avoid following up the stories for a while. I'm grateful that stronger people are doing so, and emphatic in my support for full disclosure, however disruptive.

WhistlingPot · 26/07/2014 23:59

That's a warming post Scaredy.

I think we all are still here. Just taking a breather. It's all a huge amount to take in and digest.

I don't think this can drop. And I don't think will.

I'm sorry you're not feeling too great Garlic.

Flowers to all affected in a bad way.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 27/07/2014 10:06

I think it was a mistake to move this thread into news where there is little traffic, the thread got to nearly 1000 posts, that is not a lack of interest.

Despite all the protest about it being buried with news ironic this is what has happened to the thread, who suggested it was moved to news? Someone who wanted it buried perhaps ?

Tiredemma · 27/07/2014 11:51

Disappointing to see a thread that was so fast moving last week now only have a handful of posts.

buried indeed.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 27/07/2014 12:00

Situational I think Emma I am on holiday, as I imagine are a lot of other posters. It's a low traffic time.

Still following when I can... Smile

WallyBantersJunkBox · 27/07/2014 12:01

Nobody wanted the thread buried. Please don't start a conspiracy theory on that one. At the end of the last thread a few of us discussed setting up a new thread that wouldn't drop off quickly.

An open letter to Theresa May calling for Michael Mansfield QC to chair the Child Abuse Inquiry

Dear Theresa May

Re the proposed government inquiry into organised child abuse

As Butler-Sloss stated, the proposed government inquiry into organised child abuse needs to have the confidence of care and abuse survivors. It is for this reason that the view of many survivors and leading specialists in the area of child protection is that the most suitable candidate to chair the announced ‘Child Abuse Inquiry’ is Michael Mansfield QC.

The chair of this inquiry will need fearlessness, to be prepared to challenge the authorities and to ask and get answers to very difficult questions. This is a role that can only be undertaken by someone clearly seen as outside the establishment.

Mr Mansfield has shown with his work on the Stephen Lawrence inquiry and the current Hillsborough inquiry that he has the respect of survivors and professionals to undertake this inquiry.

In addition to the need to have the correct chair – it is very disappointing that the proposed Terms of Reference (TOR), as set out by the Home Secretary, will, unless revised, render the Child Abuse Inquiry that she has announced almost worthless.

The Home Secretary has proposed an inquiry that will pull together previous reviews to produce a ‘Lessons learnt’ report – taking no evidence from individual victims.

This needs to be urgently reviewed and the TOR for this Inquiry must focus on the following three elements: 1) To hear evidence from survivors of organised abuse, which would finally give them a voice and allow them to be heard and believed 2) Set up a dedicated police team at the National Crime Agency to take evidence alongside the inquiry to investigate and prosecute offenders 3) To hold those that have failed in their professional duty or covered up allegations or been obstructive to account.

Having Mr Mansfield and revised Terms of Reference is the only way to secure justice for survivors and protection of our children.

Yours faithfully

What do we think of Mansfield? I like his history with Hillsborough and Steven Laurence inquiries, but who else is in the running?

I do note that not all of the group of seven MPs have signed....

EmGee · 28/07/2014 13:35

I'm appalled by the whole thing. It makes me sick to the bone. I hope this thread keeps going - why the silence from MNHQ? Just do not understand how the abuse of children can be glossed over.

Would be interesting to know if anyone from the royal family has been interviewed

applecatchers36 · 01/08/2014 08:08

On the today programme this morning had a feature on MI5 ordering the investigation into abuse in the Northern Irish Kincora boys home to stop. It talks of protecting people high up...I.e. A cover up...

MI5 ordering the investigation into abuse in the Northern Irish Kincora boys home to stop. It talks of protecting people high up.

This hasn't gone away :( Ranks are still closing ... bump!

Whitershadeofpale · 01/08/2014 12:12

Its disgusting that its still carrying on.

WhistlingPot · 01/08/2014 13:01

I didn't catch that apple. Just to be clear, were they referring to the historic investigation? I know there are calls for it to be included in this current inquiry, just not sure what's happening currently.

GarlicAugustus · 01/08/2014 15:11

It's about the historic investigation, Whistling. The Army intelligence officer running the 1970s Kincora inquiry, Brian Gemmell, was told to back off. Kincora was closed down in 1980, iirc, when three senior staff were prosecuted.

Gemmell's story has only broken in today's news. I don't know why.

Earlier this month, another former Army officer, Colin Wallace, said any new investigation of Kincora must have access to information from intelligence agencies. Mr Wallace said he received intelligence in 1973 to say that boys were being abused, but claims some of his superiors refused to pass on the information.

All other sources seem definite that the files were destroyed and have been missing since around 1975.

GeneralEyes · 01/08/2014 15:32

I always read these threads, though I don't post. I have signed the petition linked to.

GarlicAugustus · 01/08/2014 15:37

Good to hear it, General :)

WhistlingPot · 01/08/2014 17:59

Thanks Garlic Smile

WhistlingPot · 01/08/2014 18:36

Just reading on from that link:

Another article today saying that Ireland's First Minister Peter Robinson has said that child sex abuse at Kincora boys' home is a "national scandal" that needs to be fully investigated.

He said he has written to the prime minister to urge that the east Belfast home is included in the ongoing Westminister child sex abuse inquiry.

I also don't know how I missed that (Zac) Goldsmith claims her (Butler-Sloss') brother, former attorney general Sir Michael Havers, wrote the terms of reference of an inquiry into Kincora Boys' Home.

He said the inquiry focused only on social workers and staff, excluding visitors to the east Belfast home.

here

I am so [boggled] by all this.

I thought the criticism on Havers was around his decision not to prosecute Peter Hayman. Somehow I missed that little chestnut!

GarlicAugustus · 03/08/2014 00:56

They're closing in again.

Paedophiles have won unsupervised access to their own children because it would breach their human rights to keep them apart, judges have ruled.

Sex offenders including paedophiles should be allowed to adopt, Theresa May told.

The legal academic, Helen Reece, who's been advising May, said: “despite growing public concern over paedophilia, the numbers of child sex murders are very low.” She's also written a great deal about her (influential) opinion that children who engage willingly in sex with adults are not harmed by the experience.
For added empathy, she's campaigning for the legal definition of domestic violence to be reduced to serious physical injuries, and for rape victims to be named.

Although it's tempting to lock Ms Reece in a hotel room with a convicted rapist who's served his sentence, it's reassuring to note that a Home Office spokesman said: "It is safe to say that the vetting review will not be considering allowing paedophiles to adopt."

Shock Shock

Oh my.

LaFlambeau · 03/08/2014 21:34

She's also written a great deal about her (influential) opinion that children who engage willingly in sex with adults are not harmed by the experience.

She's what?! Jesus wept.

GarlicAugustus · 07/08/2014 01:34

I'm a bit worried that it's still all so quiet.

Just been reading some detailed accounts from the Belgian investigations. It was a very bad idea to start reading just before bed! One thing that stands out is the involvement everywhere of Brits. They are procurers, instigators, traffickers and some of the worst abusers - and, yet again, seem to be rigidly protected at a very high level :( I hope the police are getting some good info out of those 660 people they arrested.

GarlicAugustus · 07/08/2014 13:37

This is the statement of Andrea Davison, former Intelligence Agent and Child Abuse Whistle blower, who is currently a refugee in South America, where at the age of 62 years she fled following years of persecution by the British Establishment. It's from 2009 and is very clear. Well done her.

She came across the paedophile networks by accident, while working as a government investigator into illegal arms sales from factories in North Wales. Her privilege protected her up to a point, then she was persecuted and seriously threatened. The government assisted her with seeking asylum abroad. Statement.

Here she is on Twitter.

===============================================

This next link is the analysis of the Belgian Dutroux case, which I'm still reading. The pictures have been removed but the text is VERY, VERY UPSETTING. It's also very long. You have been warned!
