Here goes....

OP posts:
saadia · 30/07/2006 23:02

Yes lisalisa I am a British Muslim and I certainly do empathise with the plight of the Palestinians. But if I thought they had done something wrong I would say so. I do not blindly support all other Muslims in everything they do. There are many people who do things in the name of Islam that I strongly disagree with.

b/c if you read ALL the posts, soph, it goes beyond just criticism of the Israeli government.

WAY beyond.

I see those mothers crying, and my heart breaks for them.

My heart breaks even more to realise the level of hatred that exists even as I walk out the door or log onto a parenting site and people -even mothers - don't even realise they harbour it.

That's so awful, I think I'll put this thread to bed.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:05

lisalisa sorry but WHERE is the anti-semetism on this thread????

so what are you talking about?

saadia · 30/07/2006 23:05

Are you sure about that lisalisa (Mein Kampf claim). I have lived in Egypt and never heard of such a thing.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:07

did i miss something in part one or what?

and does that take away from the argument that i've been making lisalisa?

saadia · 30/07/2006 23:07

I have said many times on this and the previous thread, that I have not seen any examples of anti-Semitism. For myself my opposition to Israel is entirely political. And I have to say that whenever I hear reports of real anti-Semitism it sends shivers of fear down my spine.

please please can you find me an example of anti-semitism?

otherwise i just assume that it's the usual evasion of argument in favour of accusations of prejudice.

saadia · 30/07/2006 23:13

But lisalisa how many civilian casualties will it take for Israel to stop the attack permanently? They cannot destroy Hezbollah in this way. Will they go for Iran and Syria next?

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:14

so if israel is trying to stop hizbollah why is it bombing gaza? why the economic harrassment. flying jets to deliberately break the sound barrier in the middle of the night over gaza? 150 civilians killed by israel in gaza in the last three weeks whilst the eyes of the world are on lebanon.

are the guardian and independent known seats of anti-semitism as that's where i get this stuff from. no doubt you think they are.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:14

oh, and the bbc who reported on the cluster bombs.

so he is an evil nutter (incidently he wouldn't be in power but for the US invasion of iraq...iran was well on the way to democracy and increasing links with the west until that point). so WHAT?????

iranian leader bad: israel good?????

what?

saadia · 30/07/2006 23:19

Well you might be right lisalisa. There might be people who attack Israel because they are anti-Semitic. But do you think that Israel should not be criticised ever? Do you personally disagree with any Israeli policies?

southeastastra · 30/07/2006 23:20

the whole thing is a depressing mess

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:22

i fear you're not going to get an answer in the affirmative to your question saadia.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:26

ok. why cluster bombs?

you seem also to be conflating hezbollah, hamas and the PLO...

saadia · 30/07/2006 23:26

They're not making much attempt to AVOID civilian casualties. Telling people who have no car, or no petrol and little money to leave is not much help, particularly when roads are also being attacked.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:27

there just isn't an answer i'm afraid. you'd be a far better advocate for israel if you were a little less sweeping and utterly uncritical in your commentary.

the unfortunate (tragic) truth though is that your views are echoed by most Americans. Which means absolutely nothing is going to change anytime soon except for the worse.

southeastastra · 30/07/2006 23:30

it's like northern ireland

Heathcliffscathy · 30/07/2006 23:32

and what lead to the beginnings of a solution in northern ireland?? firstly an American leadership that put pressure on the IRA to get round a table, alongside a british leadership prepared to do so.

that particular lesson in history not being learnt though.
