George Galloway - insertion not rape

stargirl1701 · 20/08/2012 16:28

Just read a tweet where it is suggested former MP George Galloway feels that once a woman decides to have a sex with a men he can have sex with her subsequently, while she sleeps, as the man doesn't need consent for each "insertion"! In his view, this does not constitute rape. WTF! This is his defence of the allegations against Assange.

Enlighten us then.

What is the bigger picture?

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 21/08/2012 15:21

Do you know what, if this is a conspiracy, it is a mighty crap conspiracy.

The US authorises killing militants in Pakistan with unmanned drones, they killed Osama Bin Laden after years of tracking him down and THIS is the best they can do?

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 21/08/2012 15:21

Agree Crackfox

But dinah's argument seems to be that even if he did what he's accused of, that's not rape (and a fair few people in this country agree).

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 21/08/2012 15:22

Doctrine - agree there too. Accused of a crime that many can't get their head around being a crime....

THERhubarb · 21/08/2012 15:24

In his position? He assumed consent with two women?

I have to say that if this were true there would be more women coming forward to accuse him as this would be his standard sexual treatment of women.

But I still think he needs to face the charges because by hiding and not responding to them he is acting like a guilty man.

And Dinah, some of us are looking at the bigger picture but we still disagree with your assertions on rape. And it would appear that the law does too.

yellowraincoat · 21/08/2012 15:26

Oh what, so now he's innocent because not ENOUGH women have come forward?

Bloody hell. Pass me my smelling salts.

THERhubarb · 21/08/2012 15:30

yellowraincoat, please do not lump me with Dinah. I am a different poster and that is not what I am saying. Do not get hysterical but read all of my posts.

I do not know whether he is guilty or innocent. Neither do you or anyone on this thread. We can all make accusations or guesses but we do not have the full evidence. He needs to stand trial.

That is my position.

Still need those smelling salts?

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 21/08/2012 15:31

Rhubarb

And look what happens when people come forward .....

The Jeremy Vine programme was interesting - rape apologists were older women, and the men phoning up were the ones disagreeing with Galloway.

NOT a statistically valid sample of respondents, but enough to depress the hell out of me

DinahMoHum · 21/08/2012 15:31

i wont carry on.

as you were. Go on. Galloway is a cunt. Never did any good for anyone or anywhere, fucking socialists. Glad we got a chance to get rid of him.
Not a smokescreen for the american government at all.
If Assange goes over there, he will be killed. He will "disappear" I would put money on it. Whether what he did was technically a form of rape or not, it is not the issue im concerned about. Im more concerned about the fact that they (american government) can do this. Its so blindingly obvious they are doing everything they can by using a hugely emotive sensitive subject to pin on him. I am much more concerned about that than about whether he tried it on the next morning with a girl hed slept with the night before while he was a bit drowsy. You say i victim blame. How do you know im not a rape victim? Im trying to look at this outsde of the box without wringing my hands because it happens to be about a womans sacred vagina

He shouldnt have done it, Of course he shouldnt.

As i said, its another bill clinton. They want him fucked over, so theyll pin a sex charge on him, and its all very convenient

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 21/08/2012 15:33

I was with you ( a bit) until you said "womens sacred vagina".

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 21/08/2012 15:33

... in that sneer "calm down dear" way

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 21/08/2012 15:33

sneery

yellowraincoat · 21/08/2012 15:35

TheRhubarb. I'm not hysterical, but saying I am is a pretty common silencing technique.

I'm not lumping you with anyone. I'm calling you on your own post.

DinahMo how the hell do you know it's a conspiracy? Do you have some sort of knowledge we don't? Feel free to post it.

DuelingFanjo · 21/08/2012 15:40

"They want him fucked over, so theyll pin a sex charge on him, and its all very convenient"

that's all a bit conspiracy theory isn't it! Yes, the Americans may use this opportunity to fuck him over but the fact is the women who say they were raped deserve a fair chance to get justice. Maybe the accused rapist should have considered all this American stuff before he assumed consent, twice!

Or is he a complete idiot?

THERhubarb · 21/08/2012 15:45

The US will kill Assange? Don't be so fucking hysterical!
The US only kill innocent civilians in far off countries so don't worry.

yellowraincoat - wondering about the facts of this particular case does not make me a rape apologist thank you very much. I am guessing as I have fully admitted to and I am guessing that IF these allegations were true, then the fact that Assange did this to two different women in the space of two days would suggest that this is his usual sexual practice therefore it's not a huge assumption to think that there would be others out there. Women sometimes take strength from each other and once one claim is made, very often others will be made, each gaining strength from the previous ones.

That is not the case here and I commented on that.

I don't know if he's guilty.
I can understand the conspiracy theory. I can understand why the US would want to sully his reputation and paint him as a sexual rapist.

But I don't know if that's all just bullshit and he did rape these women.

I don't know.
Nobody on this thread knows.

DinahMoHum · 21/08/2012 15:47

of course its a conspiracy. Thats what ive been saying.

If these women truly feel like theyve been raped, then of course they should take it further, but its a bit bloody convenient its all come out at just the right time

THERhubarb · 21/08/2012 15:47

Fanjo, he is accused of presuming consent.
We don't know if he did or didn't.

yellowraincoat · 21/08/2012 15:49

THERhubarb. His lawyer has said that he had sex with these women. And that the sleeping woman was asleep.

The point is whether it is rape or not.

Which it is.

yellowraincoat · 21/08/2012 15:49

"of course it's a conspiracy"

Where is your evidence?

THERhubarb · 21/08/2012 15:50

Dinah - yes it is convenient but it could also be a coincidence.
If that's all your evidence then that will not stand up in court.

You are guessing and presuming yourself to be right.
Perhaps you are presuming two victims to be guilty? Perhaps you are indeed defending a rapist?
Wouldn't it be better, would you say, if he were just to face the charges?

Or do you really think that the US would kill him and no-one would ask questions?

By the way, what do you think about Diana's death, whilst we're here?

THERhubarb · 21/08/2012 15:50

Where did his lawyer say that?

I heard that the story had been changed by both sides several times.

madas · 21/08/2012 15:52

Yellow. Do you know if they resisted after initial penetration or did they let him proceed

CagneyNLacey · 21/08/2012 15:54

Vom.

NarkedRaspberry · 21/08/2012 15:57

Wow. Rape myth bingo on here today.
