Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Good morning all. Getting up to a shiny sink really did make me smile, even though there is various piles of clean washing dumped everywhere.

Today is the begginning of half term and even though Im still in work, I have an extra hour before I usually leave as my mum drops me off when she picks up the DCs.

Usually what happens on these days is, I sit here enjoying the peace, doing nothing, get the DCs up late and we all run around shouting at each other in total chaos.

But last night I asked DCs to get their clothes out and we got them ironed. So hopefully things will go smoother.

Im going to use my extra hour now to

Sort out clean washing
Get another load in
Pay for DS1 birthday party
Get dressed to shoes
Wash breakfast dishes.
Have an extra cup of tea

After work I will begin to tackle the bathroom!

missbennett · 15/02/2010 08:13

Morning all!
Ellie that is very sad. Thinking about you and cm.
PA grumpy is reasonable after such a rude awakening!
Teamcullen - hello!
waves to everyone else

Well, I should be on the train to London but I'm not! Alarm clock rang an hour after it was set -guess the battery on the way out - so I'm very late..and not feeling brilliant - still not over cold and got this rash thing that is very itchy - not at death's door and have kept going all last week but today decided the late alarm was a sign so I'm going back to bed
DH is still in it - as usual - so my answer to today's babystep is only to do my side I have shoved stuff down the loo and it can have a good soak. Then, if I feel more like it, I will tackle the conservatory - very small and very cluttered but need daylight to deal with it - so maybe today's the day and then I'll feel less guilty about not going to work

I'll report back later

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 15/02/2010 08:35

Morning all,

As it is half term I have DH and DC home, which is going to be fun So we are going to start at the top of the house in littlies room. Need to sort the corner that the shelnes are going in and then sort out the shelves on the landing which have become a dumping ground. Move shelves in and put books on. Then sort out the room which has become a mess again, need to replace a storage box which became broken. Also need to put a light up on the wall in there and have a mass batteries in toys sort out.

Then we need to do the landing which has become a dumping ground and then defumigate the family bathroom.

Also need to keep on top of wahing up and washing.

Have a good day all.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 15/02/2010 09:12

Well the fat fairy really has chosen the two worst rooms in this house to be tackled this week. Plus the bedroom needs sorting Plus i am still taming the bombsite that i have been left with. Ok will stop moaning. the list for today:

To Do:
Get up
Breakfast
Load dishwasher
rinse out recycling
load recycling into car and take to tip
put washing load on
put ironed and folded clothes away
Change light bulb in bathroom and clean fitting at same time.
Job applications x2
Email updated CV to tutor
Post office for recorded post.
Bank to transfer money
Lesson plans for year 9.
Photocopying.

plenty enough in that list. mght add more later but need to get at least that lot done today.

teamcullen · 15/02/2010 09:22

Just reporting back to say Ive done all my jobs on my list. I put up sticky lables on the boiler (They kept falling off because its so dusty) and pulled them off when Id done each job. I felt a bit stupid at first but it worked.

Having my cup of tea before work now and DCs have got ready without the the normal hissy fits.

DS1 is away in scotland visiting friends though and they are always more tollerable when there are only 2 of them at home.

I will check in later with my afternoon list of things to do.

Thankyou everybody for making me feel so welcome

MrsDinky · 15/02/2010 09:40

Morning All,

Welcome on board TeamCullen - sounds like you have made a good start and have the right approach, too much too soon definitely spells burnout.

MissB hope a day at home does you good.

PA - you are quite right about 7x10=70, hope you are less grumpy after your second wake-up. Have to confess to knowing very little about rugby, as with many sports I absorb a bit of knowledge because I listen to 5Live so I know the 6 Nations is on, but couldn't tell you what any of the results have been. We're enjoying the Winter Olympics though - about the luger who died.

WCTR - good luck with that big list

Ellie - that's so sad about the CM's twins, what an awful thing to happen.

I finally finished decluttering the craft area, just waiting for the DCs to investigate and start yelling because their favourite lump of rock hard playdough or random plastic item has disappeared.

My home office area is quite yuck, so will be good to focus on that this week.

Just bracing myself for the weekly Sainsburys run. Sighs, and shuffles off to make another cup of tea.

elliepac · 15/02/2010 09:48

Will somebody remind me come xmas never to buy lego again as have just spent the last hour and a half clearing up half a tonne of the stuff from ds's floor! nevertheless his room is now presentable, 2nd load of washing just finishing and now going tidy living room which dd has trashed while i was upstairs [sigh]

MrsDinky · 15/02/2010 10:35

Ellie - oh yes, same here. Made a double mistake here, lego and Hama beads, grrrr.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 15/02/2010 11:25

And this is why i have lego restricted to the lounge. It means it is kept on top of, i am a mean mummy and anything that is not made up goes into a tub. one for power miners, one for star wars, one with smaller tubs for various kits. And he has to play with it on a special tray too so the bits dont get spread all over the floor.

Right quick update and then back to work:
done
Get up
Breakfast
Load dishwasher
rinse out recycling
put washing load on
put ironed and folded clothes away ds' done. just mine to go.

load recycling into car and take to tip
Change light bulb in bathroom and clean fitting at same time.
Job applications x2
Email updated CV to tutor
Post office for recorded post.
Bank to transfer money
Lesson plans for year 9.
Photocopying.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 15/02/2010 11:27

Opps meant to type to do where the blank line is. Still have tons to do.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 15/02/2010 12:56

The washing up is now up to date huzzaaah!

washing in x3, hung up x2, folded x1

All the toys have been sorted and put away. Need to hoover the floor and get hte shelves in. DH has reminded me we never moved all the shelves out to get the stuff out from under them. So I may do that as well.

Right off to get on. Have a good afternoon ladies.

missbennett · 15/02/2010 13:34

Just pausing for a coffee after lunch. I like this being at home

Have been in the conservatory this morning. Is depressing - basically it is damp in there, in spite of extra sealant etc and I realised to my horror (once I got behind the clutter) that there is nasty mould and mildew on all the window sills. So I am contravening fat fairy's rules and moving the clutter onto the table and doing deep cleaning. Yuk and yuk. Done half, half to go. But gave up and made veggie soup for lunch - very therapeutic.

Am limiting myself to half an hour and then I'll start again.....

PositiveAttitude · 15/02/2010 13:59

Enjoy your half hour MissB.
Sounds like a pretty grim job, but just think of the satisfation when its done!

Right, Less grumpy now - slightly!

I have done the supermarket shopping and managed to even stay very calm when DS and I were having a coffee in town and MIL came in and sat on the table next to us! The bad day was complete!! We really dont get on and a lot of stuff going on at the moment that she was discussing very loudly just to embarrass me. I sat not knowing whether to run, or pretend I really was not bothered. Poor DS was red with shame! So as not to make a scene we sat and discussed school issues and laughed a lot, drank up and went without a backward glance. I think I pulled it off.

Came home with fume pouring out my ears to find DH merrily playing on the wii and nothing done in the kitchen or in preparation for lunch. After banging a few things around in the kitchen DH finally realised that I was not happy!
Anyway, calm now!

DS going for sleepover, so DH just about to take him. I am going to give the embassies one more try. Then sit down with a good book for a little while to restore inner peace!

Hope you all have a good day.

optimisticmumma · 15/02/2010 14:10

Hi all
Have been away from the computer all weekend so have only just managed to get on to see what you've all been up to.

Flying is going by the board a bit here this week as we're away on Wednesday for 3 nights.

So today:
pick up Euros
go clothes shopping with DD done
clean out rabbits DC to do
Asthma clinic for DS
ironing doing
start packing
get something for supper

Will try to get round to the missions and zones later.
Enjoy your day everyone!

Mmmango · 15/02/2010 14:15

Mil sounds toxic, positive - not nice to behave that way to you, but really not on to do to her grandson. for you.

Have only skimmed thread. Weekly home thingy is a bit weird the way the fat fairy sets it up imo. I've ended up writing my own list, and then I do one thing per day Mon - Thurs with Fridays off. Works better for me.

Having trouble with motivation over here - have got routines done (and all floors mopped - weekly blitz thing for Monday) but no decluttering and no mission. Already gone 9, so I might just try to get evening routine done early, have early night and wake up full of beans tomorrow.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 15/02/2010 16:59

Right quick update and then back to work:
done
Get up
Breakfast
Load dishwasher
rinse out recycling
put washing load on
put ironed and folded clothes away ds' done. just mine to go.
Change light bulb in bathroom and clean fitting at same time.
Bank to transfer money and pay credit card bill
Get storage box for ds' blankets
Pick up file, paper and red pens

to do
load recycling into car
Job applications x2
Email updated CV to tutor
Lesson plans for year 9.

Still felt rubbish so decided to take a drive out to buxton and do the banking there. Have done a few other errands so afternoon no completely wasted. Still feel rubbish and cba going to tip in the rain so figured would postpone this until tomo. Will load car tonight. MUST get stuff ready to go to the post office for tomo, and do the applications so am heading off in a mo. might catch up later.

teamcullen · 15/02/2010 17:23

Good evening everybody. Ive been to the shops on the way home from work and bought a whiteboard for my To Do lists and one for the DSs. Ive also bought a new shower curtain as the one up is beyond manky

So evening list...

Put tea on
Clean bathroom
Put up shower curtain up
do a towels wash
Do todays mission (wipe away cobwebs)
Have tea
wash dishes
put up white boards
read with DS

I will check back later when my list is done and do my night time routine.

missbennett · 15/02/2010 17:31

I did it! I got rid of all the nasty, slimy, yukky black mould and it looks much better. And dealt with the cobwebs. Table now clearish- big pile I need to go through but not today! Need to go and have bath as feel very grimy.

Easy tea tonight - got a M&S £20 meal - supposed to be for Valentines but didn't have yesterday as both DDs here and we ate with them. Is a little treat - we normally try and go out if the girls are away but we're skint so treated ourselves to this from M&S voucher we had fro Christmas - so cost is zilch I am looking forward to it, though the dessert is mega-points. Good job I have burnt off lots of calories cleaning
Everyone else seems to have got loads done too - what good little flybabies we are.......

droitwichmummy · 16/02/2010 06:52

Good morning! Where DID MN go last night?

Well done missb on getting rid of that mould.

Teamcullen - another whiteboard devotee

Babystep today is a catch up one

Double mission today but not too onerous - you can even do the second bit whilst MNing!

2 more Plympic missions today - but one is a pampering one!

Running late so hope you all have a good day - see you later!

Morning DWM!

It broke was broken all night It couldnt even keep me company through a night of insomia had to read a book instead.
Off to try to grab an hours kip before having to start the day.

... seriously though, havent been able to sleep but indulged in reading abook cover to cover. am now about knackered enough to sleep so going to crash for an hour.

Have a good day folks!

elliepac · 16/02/2010 07:22

Morning everyone.

Can't believe my baby girl is 2 today, where did that go? Today is a mad mix of rushing around and spending time with birthday girl and ds. After the heartbreaking funeral of cm's twins yesterday i am very grateful for having 2 healthy beautiful children.

Am so glad i flew over the weekend as will not have the usual rush to make house presentable for visitors just have day to day stuff to do so list looks like this-
washing on
drier on
general tidy
floors swept and mopped
washing away
tesco for party food
skip trip
wrap dd's pressies
prep party food

Have a good day everyone.

teamcullen · 16/02/2010 07:57

Good morning.

Droit, DS2 loves his whiteboard. Its marked out as a weekly planner with 5 boxes for each day. We write out his things to do in each box and he wipes them off when he has done them. Ive just been giving him easy things such as washed, dressed, teeth, tidy away 5 things etc.. but they are the little things that I normally have to tell him till Im blue in the face to do. I wait with bated breath how long it lasts but for now its working.

The whiteboard was only £2 so Im going back to get another 2 for DD and DS1.

Okay, this mornings list...

Have shower/get dressed
Put clean towels/washing away
Put a wash on
move clutter from bottom of stairs
Give floors a quick brush
Wash breakfast dishes
cup of tea

Not too much before work but going to make a start on DS2 bedroom later.

optimisticmumma · 16/02/2010 08:44

Happy Birthday to your DD Elliepac! Hope you all have a lovely day! You are right when you say we should be thankful for healthy, happy DC! Big ((((hugs))) to you all!

Good morning everyone else! Coffee/orange juice/croissants/ what ever else gets you going is on the side. Help yourselves cos OM has got to get cracking and stop sitting around!

Miss b/PA - do you find with teenagers there's an awful lot of hanging around waiting for them??? I am soooo bad at that as I find it soooo boring and then I become really lethargic! Any tips??

Today I must get on and not be lethargic!!

WM on
Strip beds
Room rescue all rooms
Go to school to pick up stuff i left and need
PACK!!!
Tescos for storecupboardy things
Look at missions and do!
Talk to DD about going to an under18s/no alcolol club night! ie is she really wanting to go when we are up early tomorrow and do I really want to pick her up at 11 from nearby large town. (answer - no!)

Have a productive day all! Will be on later to give myself a kick up the bum!

missbennett · 16/02/2010 09:08

Morning! Happy birthday to the birthday girl, ellie. Have a lovely day
DWM I don't know where it went either - not happy though
Chaos hope you feel better after a sleep - what did you read?
OM Yes! They are hopeless - just when you think you are there you realise they are putting on mascara/brushing hair(again!)/straightening hair/ finding purse etc etc. And WHY does it take over 30 minutes to have a shower?! I have to confess that DD2 is worse than DD1 and now DD1 and I are often to be seen waiting in the car, front door open, waiting for DD2 to emerge.....to the regualr harrassed sounding call from me...'come on! hurry up! We're late!' which makes little no difference at all. It must end eventually
Today - have done routines and am now going to the GP - not feeling right and got a funny rash thing all over that is itching. Don't think it's too serious but has gone on for almost a week now.......so we'll see what the doc says. Probably that I'm a hysterical menopausal woman who shouldn't be wasting his time!
Be back later......
