Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Just signing back in to say Ive done my morning list. Having cup of tea. Be back after work with my next list.

Happy cleaning everybody

optimisticmumma · 16/02/2010 09:29

Oo-er, MissB - that does sound nasty! Regarding the teenagers - do you find, though, that you can't 'get on' with your stuff because they are still asleep etc etc and you have been programmed to 'be a good mum' so you wait around for them to be up?? I only ask because I feel i should be around but am really wanting to go and do something more productive like have a coffee with a friend![crisis of confidence emoticon]
just tell me I'm being a total wuss...

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 16/02/2010 10:38

OM - mum used to leave us to sleep when we were old enough. SHe had a lovely productive half term seeing her friends and doing stuff. Me and my sisters had a lovely sleep. Think the middle used to get up and go see her friends but she was an odd one and got up early evenin the hols.

The book was a chic lit book. cant remember name and CBA to fish it out of the charity shop bag. I enjoyed it though.

RIght been to the docs. Was and odd meeting, but he is happy about more sleep meds for ds. Here is my list for today:

Contacts appointment
Year 7 lesson plans and pdf files plus other resources for nxt week.
rescue breakfast that smells like it is burning

catch ya later!

missbennett · 16/02/2010 11:14

Hello again!

Been to the doctor. Says I haven't got shingles or chicken pox but that sort of thing So feel justified in feeling rough and am taking today and tomorrow off work and then I'll see how I feel. Isn't it silly though - I always feel I need permission to be poorly!

OM - I guess I do a mixture. If there's something we all want to do I'll get them up, if not I won't - but if I have plans I'll let them know and get on with it.....Saturdays are good e.g. - DD1 goes off to work, DD2 stays in bed. DD2 knows I go to fat club but I don't wake her before I go and she knows where I am if she wakes up before I get back. I generally find if they are in bed I can get on with a few jobs. DH on the other hand completely ignores them and does whatever he was planning on......

Right then. I am officially ill. DDs still with granny. I am going to sit on the settee, watch crap TV and mooch on mumsnet. If I feel more like it bored after lunch I might tidy their rooms

pushmepullyou · 16/02/2010 11:20

Hello all

Been away with work for the last few days so back to a generally grubby house covered with muddy paw marks!

Bathroom happily not too bad though. I have about an hour before I have to pick up DD so need to prioritise the following:

Fold and put away washing
Stack dishwasher
Kitchen floor
5 mins general tidy in each rom

Off to catch up with the thread first though

elliepac · 16/02/2010 11:57

Am feeling remarkably relaxed considering i have a houseful later, when will the panic set in i wonder? Have-
done general tidy
washing all dried and put away
food for party bought

Everything else to be sorted when dd goes for her nap.

missb sometimes it's almost worth being ill to get some me time guilt free.

feetheart · 16/02/2010 12:55

Hello, I'm back after a long w/e visit from my Mum - had been a bit daunted by it but house felt reasonably OK (my step-father is seriously OCD about cleanliness/mess/etc and after 30+ years it has rubbed off a bit on my Mum!) In the end we had a lovely time and actually managed to sit and chat a lot which we never seem to be able to do.
DD also had her first ever sleepover at the w/e after her best friend's birthday party - felt very odd her not being about but she had a WONDERFUL time and wasn't completely overwrought when she got back though was VERY, VERY tired

Back on the Flying wagon again today. I did manage to keep up with most of my routines which was pleasing as it means it is becoming routine - shiny sink, S&S, washing, bird-feeding and cat litter. Others still aren't there so need lots more work.

Welcome teamcullen - definitely go the 'babysteps' route, this is my 4th attempt at FLYing in about 2 years but this time I've taken it slowly, used the support/chat on here much more and I feel that its working so far.

Happy Birthday Elliepac's DD - what is it with February birthdays, I've got DD's on Mon and DH's on Tues. Have a lovely party.

WCTR - must admit I sometimes just give in to insomnia and use the time to read in peace! Hope you get a chance to catch up a bit today.

Aiming for short list today:

  • Morning routine - done
  • 2 minutes hotspot - done
  • General tidy up and move things back to right rooms - we don't have a spare room so when we have visitors DS goes in with DD and we use his room
  • Hoover hall/stairs
  • Yesterday's mission including lampshade
  • Write list for birthday food and things that need to be done ie presents researched and bought
  • Collapse with DC and watch video
  • Make soup for dinner
  • Go to flat to get it ready for new tenants
  • Hopefully show prospective new tenants round
  • Evening routine
  • Early night

Doesn't seem so short

feetheart · 16/02/2010 12:56

Opps, bit of an epic

optimisticmumma · 16/02/2010 13:13

Thanks MissB and WCTR - I know i can leave them and get on but sometimes feel guilty about that! Silly really! Anyway - I had a lovely coffee and chat in town with my jobshare which has put me in a much better mood so result all round!!
WM on
Strip bedsdone
Room rescue all roomsdone
Go to school to pick up stuff i left and need
PACK!!!
Tescos for storecupboardy things
Look at missions and do!
Talk to DD about going to an under18s/no alcolol club night! ie is she really wanting to go when we are up early tomorrow and do I really want to pick her up at 11 from nearby large town. (answer - no!)

Had better get on as not much flying achieved so far!

Hope you feel a bit better this afternoon missB. Take it easy and look after yourself!
Hi feetheart nice to 'see' you back!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 16/02/2010 13:17

I've started another book. tis true luxary. though have a pile of lesson plans to do tomo. But today tis time to leave for opticians. CBA doing anything but only just starting to get a tiny bit tired. need some fresh air. catch ya tomo.

PositiveAttitude · 16/02/2010 13:59

Good day ladies,

Glad MN is now back up and running. I had visions of loads of mums being quite frantic last evening wihtout their "fix".

OM - In the holidays I go off to work while DCs are all asleep, so that I can be home in time to spend most of the day with them being taxi. If it is a day off I do tend to creep around a bit to start with. I could never do too much such as hoover or anything while DD3 is asleep anyway due to her sound sensitivity. She has to be awake and have music on in her room for me to be able to hoover, which is a very good excuse to not be able to do it very often!! Where I only work part time I often see friends with their DCs a during the hols and see them alone during term time.
I find I spend ages outside their work places or clubs (swimming/tennis/badminton/youth club/youth church/girls brigade) waiting for them to finish, but am now programmed to take a book with me and actually get annoyed when they turn up!

MissB - Sorry you are still feeling poorly. A definite feet-up,-rubbish-tv-and- do-nothing-for-as-long-as-possible day for you I think!!

Ellie - Happy birthday to DD. Hope the party goes well and a glass of wine waiting for later!

I went to work early this morning then bought a carpet sweeper thingy on the way home - due to not being able to use my hoover as much as I need to. Also bought a shelving unit thingy for the wet room, to keep it all a la fat fairy! Pleased with both purchases.

I have swept the carpets upstairs and down
Cleaned wetroom
Done kitchen/Dw
Washing machine
Sorted/folded washing
Got house ready and tidy for housegroup tonight.

Just going to ahve a baking hour:
make pancake mix
Coffee cake for housegroup
Naan bread - 1st time at doing this.....exciting!
Cook curry.

Have a good day everyone!

optimisticmumma · 16/02/2010 14:27

Wow PA! all your baking sounds wonderful! Will also need to whip up some pancakes later even though it's the only food I absolutely hate! Still I'm pretty good at making them as I've had so much practice! Coffee cake, on the other hand, sounds truly fab!!
I made naan bread with my class at school. It is v.easy ( i found a very good recipe on the bbcgoodfood site - I use that site all the time!!).Enjoy!
I really have to get to tescos but it's pouring here and I am having a sever attack of the CBAs! Someone give me a kick!!

optimisticmumma · 16/02/2010 14:28

severe not sever!

Mmmango · 16/02/2010 14:43

ellie - happy birthday little e, hope you have a great time today

team cullen - you're doing well, morning list all done.

optimistic - so glad you went and had your coffee,'me time' is such a crap phrase but it's important to have some, I think
oh, and up the bum, seeing as you asked for it!

miss b - get well soon (and in the meantime, no cleaning, rest instead. Definitely)

chaos - wow, I love the idea of 2 books in 2 days - plenty of time for lesson prep later

Big waves to pmpy, feetheart, dwm & everyone.

I just got back from dinner with people I know through my old work - was very nice (took dd2 with me, but she was really easy). I was a bit nervous beforehand though, I think I need to get out more or I'm going to end up social-phobic (you know when you're out of the habit of doing things, they get harder...)

Anyway, not too bad today, got the bathroom looking presentable (lots of tiles and grouting that needs lots more scrubbing than it gets of cleaning). Only done the computer bit of the mission, although i might do all the lightswitch plates in the house tomorrow.
at the Olympics
cba reading any fat fairy stuff today, I think I've got the gist. I'm having a really hard time incorporating making the bed into morning routine though (even though it makes the whole bedroom look better when I do it), not sure why it's such a mental block. So my personal babystep for tomorrow is to make the bed.

MrsDinky · 16/02/2010 19:15

Evening all,

Well, been out most of the day, took DCs to trampolining and soft play this morning and to my parents this afternoon, where they are staying the night, so we are off out in a minute for a bite to eat. Needless to say haven't done much Flying, but have been tidying as I go, so not too bad (me and DCs out all day = not too much mess anyway).

There are a lot of Feb birthdays in our family too, my granny used to keep a wallplanner with all of the 40 or so of our birthdays on, over a quarter were in Feb. Mine is next week. Also masses of my friends and their DCs have birthdays this month too. Hope DD had a lovely day Ellie PA we love our carpet sweeper, anything that means getting the hoover out a bit less often is good news in my book.

Might not be here tomorrow, going to be out from 7am, will try and pop on in the evening.
Night all.

StillCounting · 16/02/2010 20:03

droitwichmummy · 16/02/2010 20:22

Hello everyone - lots of busy half term stuff going on out there. DS is on stage 2 of his tour of the GPs! Successfol handover today and he is happily at my parents now.
I'm off to London at silly o'clock tomorrow for the day - if I don't get to post before I go will someone do it for me? Thank you!

OP posts:
StillCounting · 16/02/2010 20:45

Hi, MummyD I'm afraid I can't oblige as have crack of sparrows hosp. appt. tomorrow but no doubt someone else will step in....have a good trip. Gp's don't want another one do they by any chance?

missbennett · 16/02/2010 21:33

Evening!
Ellie hope you and DD had a lovely party.
feetheart, glad you had such a good visit with your mum.
OM good move - going out- cheers the soul I feel, a coffee and a chat
PA I know what you mean about waiting out side places - and I too find a book helps. Coffee cake sounds lovely.......
Waves to everyone else.......

I have had a lazy day - spent the morning watching TV/MN-ing/reading. Slept most of the afternoon. Cooked tea (easy stuff from Waitrose that was reduced!) and been reading. Might go to bed soon. Just what the doctor ordered Feeling a bit better after all that inactivity but still itchy

DDs back tomorrow afternoon - is lovely and peaceful and I do appreciate time without them BUT I do miss them and will be very glad to have them home They have been to stay with my mum so they can see the Ashbourne shrovetide football - the first year when we have had half term at the right time. So they've had a good time and seen their cousins and other assorted relatives and seen something a bit different - all good stuff - and they've travelled by train which is all good for their independence

Ash Wednesday tomorrow. Am definitely not going to work but hopefully will feel OK enough to go to church in the morning. But won't offer to post as I'm not (whispers) going to set the alarm
Hope everybody has a good evening.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 16/02/2010 21:37

Evening fellow flappers,

I have a shiney sink.
Washing up done.
Washing x3, dried and folded x3,
Sorted littlies bedroom yet again as they completely trashed it this morning before we got up Got them to help but it took us forever with us having to push them to do it.
Got it hoovered as well
Sorted all the old clothes into age and bagged and labelled them and put into the loft.
Also the toys I want to save.
Tidyed the landing up.
Cleaned the artwork off the walls.

Sorry for such flying visits and not reading others posts but hope every one is enjoying half term.

feetheart · 16/02/2010 23:19

Very glad we went for the 'slob around and do very little' approach to half-term as both DC tired and not 100%. All the activity on here is tiring me out!

StillCounting - don't mind you asking at all. DD is 7 next week (so still 6 really though she isn't admitting it ) Sleepover was with her best friend who lives round the corner. DD spends lots of time there (about as much time as her friend spends here!) so it was a natural step really. Not sure I would be happy with her staying with a random friend from school.

Lots of discussion today in this rather agnostic household about Ash Wednesday as its DS's name and he's trying to claim the day

Not a bad Flying day:

  • Morning routine - done
  • 2 minutes hotspot - done
  • General tidy up and move things back to right rooms - done
  • Hoover hall/stairs - done
  • Yesterday's mission including lampshade - no
  • Write list for birthday food stuff - no but I have thought about it a bit!
  • Collapse with DC and watch video - done after they had stopped arguing about what to watch
  • Make soup for dinner - done
  • Go to flat to get it ready for new tenants - done though old tenants did a brilliant cleaning job
  • Hopefully show prospective new tenants round - not yet
  • Evening routine - not really
  • Early night - no

If I am up early enough I will try and do the links if no-one else does

droitwichmummy · 17/02/2010 05:34

Is it morning yet? Told you I would be up at silly o'clock!

I am SO going to do the babystep today

Not too onerous a mission either

And we have an Olympic mission as well today.

Have a good day (when it arrives ) might see you later!

OP posts:
elliepac · 17/02/2010 07:30

Morning all. We had a lovely day yesterday, dd was spoilt rotten although thankfully a lot of people bought her clothes as she already has more toys than i know what to do with!

Today is about clearing the debris and then relaxing as we didn't stop all day. List looks like this-
restore order downstairs
washing

That's it .
Back later to catch up with all your news.

PositiveAttitude · 17/02/2010 08:03

Glad your day was good yesterday Ellie

Some of us up and out early today I see.
I am already at work and trying to warm my office up.

MissB Hope your relaxing has done the trick and you feel better today.

Coffee cake was rather yum, even though I say so myself. And Naan bread is so easy! Why had I not done this before? The bought stuff is horrible and hard and I always liked the proper stuff from the take-away, but we have that so rarely. Now I am going to be making that each week with the weekend curry. (creatures of habits DH always has a curry on a Saturday night! )

We have got fed up of trying to get any sense out of the embassies, so DH is travelling to London today to see if face-to-face we can get some answeres (in English!) and to renew DD4s Russian passport. Hope he doesn't meet any nice ladies on the embassy steps! (Cant remember who's relative met a wife on the steps of the Russian embassy???)
So, after work today I have a day of slobbing with the DCs me and DCs. Voted last night for a DVD day - suits me!
One hotspot, or flyspot, or whatever she is calling it today to be put out in the kitchen before it becomes an inferno. Other than that, just a maintenance day for me I think.

Have a good day all. Whatever you are up to.

teamcullen · 17/02/2010 08:48

Grr.. just typed a longish post and it disapeared!

Morning everyone, Im very tierd today with lots to do so quick list and then get moving.

Strip and wash DSs beds
get toy boxes put away
Get ready for work
Go to Asda on way to work
make a chinese banquet in work plus put all the shopping away.
Finnish making DSs bedroom presentable
Clean downstairs toilet
Decorate DSs cake

Right that will do for now. Have a nice day, see you all later
