Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Morning ladies,

Will try and finish the washing up today and make a start on the washing mountain.

We are also going to do some geocaching if the weather holds off, though it is looking a bit grim out there.

Have a good day all.

droitwichmummy · 14/02/2010 08:43

Morning ellie - soooo nice to have my early morning buddy back

Hello everyone lots of church-going happening today by the look of the posts yesterday. 7/8 yos + candles - yikes!

Appropriately, Sunday is renew your spirit day

The babystep is a cup in hand, reading one, so no excuses there although it could get a bit cutesy

We also have a new Olympic mission if you fancy it. And yes, there really are photos on facebook of people's uncluttered homes

My mission for the day - get DS to GPs and do the washing.

See you later!

x posts MrsGok. Enjoy geocaching. I have a friend who does this and it does sound fun (and a good way to get DCs out of the house!)

Yup! they love the hunt for the 'prize' so to speak. But the forcast is sleety rain, so we will see.

elliepac · 14/02/2010 09:47

Aoologies for being thick but what is geocaching mrsgok? sounds exciting though! Going well here. Bathroom cleaned and start made on dd's room.

PositiveAttitude · 14/02/2010 10:13

Morning ladies,

Just a flying visit to say have a good Valentines day everyone.

Just discovered that for the past 8 years DD1 has been responsible for all the lovely romantic cards that DH has given me. Now that she has moved out DH has relied on DD2 to do the work. Who said romance is dead, eh? Apparently when you have been married as long as we have romance is not needed, according to DH. The thinkg is I must have missed the romance in our earlier days! Leopards just dont change their spots do they.

So I react by going totally over the top and have bought heart shaped frying pan for heart shaped eggs, toast and everything else I cook today! Also loads of pink colouring on everything and love notes around the house. I do enough for both of us apparently!!

Looking forward to a day of slurping, soppy teenagers.

Right off to church, kitchen tidy, DW on. Wm on. Tumble drier on. beds done. Good start so far.

Have a good day all.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 14/02/2010 10:17

The kids love it. Have a look at the site. You look up the area you are in and are given clues to a 'cache', most of the time it is just finding a little thing that you put your name down on and other times it is a little box with a goodies in and you take one out and put one in. We found one in our townn that was actually a bicycle lock that had been left on a rack, you removed a bolt from it and put your name down on it. It was right on the high street and I have seen it there for years but never realised.

Geocaching

StillCounting · 14/02/2010 10:34

Hello! Sunday morning catch up. Well done everyone - you have been massively busy.

Happy Valentine's day!!

Have just made dh a large heart-shaped cheese pie (he has nostalgic memories of prep-school lunches!!) It's just mash and cheddar (difficult to get here) on a pastry bed - eaten with ketchup apparently. It doesn't look very appetising tbh

(Have been flapping very close to the ground since Wednesday - doesn't really merit the term 'Flying' - although I have kept up with the laundry.)

Haven't gone riding in the snow this morning. Decided to stay behind and do some restitutional Flying ....yes the house is that bad ...

Got to get reasonably ship-shape for next week (half-term). Is it half term in UK too?

Hi MrsGok - will Google geocaching (nosy emoticon)

Hello to MummyD - bless me for I have sinned and fallen off Flying wagon for 2 days - returning back to 15 min mantra. Happy laundering today. Apple jam sounds yum.

Elliepac - well done on catching up yesterday - that's what I should have been doing ...looks like you are on track for your Tuesday deadline.

And congrats on your long list too MissBennett and all the domestic goddess cooking AND losing half a pound!! Well done!!

Hope you feel more energetic today MrsDinky and glad to hear your dd is on the mend ...

Well done with garden/terrace clean-up Swan
I always feel much better in the garden too... still snow-covered here though. at strange hippotami - there was a boy in dd's ballet class but sadly he only lasted 3 weeks ...would be good if some lads joined

Hi Wherechaos Sorry your ds is upset by ex shenanigans ... that sounds a tough ...hope he is OK. Hope he doesn't come home with live bait either!!
oh and apologies for my uber-football-ignorance earlier down thread. Don't really follow domestic football but enjoy international variety ...looking forward to England v Montenegro ... .

PA lots of yummy cooking going on in the Attitude establishment as usual I see ..[grabs large spoon] good luck with sorting out all the passport bureaucracy.

Hi to Mmango - looks like you have been very busy too - well done - coffee bean tip noted.

Hi to MiniMarmite - how are you doing?

And waves to Talulahbelle Feetheart and everyone I've missed

Oh dear, I see there has been handbag decluttering going on too

Better stop scrolling and start Flying!!

Back later to list things I have done (won't jinx myself now) and to post body clutter tip of the week.

Have a good Sunday!

StillCounting · 14/02/2010 10:40

x posts - Oh I like the sound of that MrsGok - sounds like brilliant fun!!

lol PA at your heart-shaped fried eggs and soppy teenagers. Love is definitely in the air in your household!!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 14/02/2010 14:40

Had great fun yomping across fields, looking at wildlife and flora and feeding ducks on the pond.

Found one cache. It was in a little box that had magnetic strips on the back and was attached to the back of a phone boc. It was painted red to match the phone box and the back of the box was up against the wall, with a bit of foliage growing up in the space between so it is not obvious unless you know what you are looking for.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 14/02/2010 15:12

SC- upset about the football? am confused. Have been very emotional this week and in review a few of my posts have been unnecessariy stroppy.

It is blissful here. I am only just woken up. there is no one in the house and apart from the little lad 2 doors up who is plying out, all is quiet. Last night was lovely but very late. And i have bit of a headache. so going to be lazy and have a bed day today. will only get up to retrive things to take back. Pure pre child luxary

missbennett · 14/02/2010 15:48

wherechaos that sounds lovely!
Waves to everyone. Geocoaching looks like fun and might appeal to DD2.....

Well, I had composed a post earlier but managed to lose it all and then ran out of time.

Today I have:
-morning routine
-made prototype of 'bling' cross for Sunday School
-peeled veg for lunch
-Church - all went well and we braved the candles and it was lovely - and they liked the crosses so we made a super-big one for the vicar - which, bless him, he was still wearing over coffee - looked fab and he is good at entering into the spirit of things
-collected pre-ordered train tickets for DDs to go to granny's this evening
-cooked lunch
-sorted out Guide event for next Saturday and letters I need to deliver
-made sure DDs are packed and ready to go- they are getting the 6.20 train. Hooray. They are back on Wednesday

About to go to take DD2 to confirmation class, then once she's back they can have a quick snack and off to the station and I am going to follow chaos's example this evening

droitwichmummy · 14/02/2010 17:40

Mission accomplished here! DS at GPs and not home till Friday

Washing done, just need to get it dry

Also baking bread (in machine) and going to transplant some seedlings once compost has warmed up a bit.

Pizza and wine for tea I think then curl up in bed with book leaving DH playing poker (v romantic I know but it suits me)

See you in the morning!

OP posts:
swanriver · 14/02/2010 18:37

Done
packed for trip to Eire
potted up some primulas
abandoned mess to husband
ordered reciprocal health NHS cards (better late than never) fingers crossed no accidents in Eire
made a tiny start on ds's project, and packed lots of stuff to so it on holiday [sigh]

I seem to have managed to end up with kids this half-term - you have all been a lot more foresighted
no poker for me

the kids are behaving apallingly - no doubt tension of departure, hope they reform when I am in sole charge

StillCounting · 14/02/2010 19:55

Hi again everyone

No childcare here this week either Swan - one of the downsides of having dc late in life (remaining gps too old) and being an expat (other relatives too far away). Maybe in the summer ... Still, pretty easy really with just one dd to entertain!

Pricks up ears at your primula potting and MummyD's seedlings - now that IS very organised. What are you planting MummyD???

Like the sound of your vicar MissBennett Wherechaos - you weren't stroppy at all! Was just apologising for my woeful ignorance about Portsmouth !!!! Very of your pre-child luxury today - ENJOY!!!

Quite pleased with myself - made some progress this afternoon ... drum roll ....

I HAVE CLEARED MY HOME OFFICE DESK AND EMPTIED 3 BOXES OF PAPERS!!! Hoorahhh!!! Hooorahh!! Hurray!! Broke the stale-mate anyway and actually looking forward to doing a bit more clearing this week, although packed schedule for half-term...

Cheese pie was unexpectedly good (ate with back bacon and tomato ketchup!!) and dh was transported back to his yoof . He even remembered to buy me some chocs too...

Changed all the beds too and made a Valentine's card to put under dd's pillow. She didn't actually twig that it was from me (ah the innocence of the 6 yr old)

Did laundry x 2

Going to put away ironing tonight, review French essay, and then settle down to double bill of House ... bliss!!

Back in a mo to post body clutter step!

Enjoy the last few hours of your Sunday everyone.

StillCounting · 14/02/2010 20:03

BODY CLUTTER STEP FOR WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 15TH FEBRUARY:

(Please ignore if you are not watching your weight)

Hope no-one will mind if I take the liberty of posting one of my own tips (it seemed appropriate with Lent starting on Wednesday):

Cut out alcohol completely or restrict to x nights per week

And try and maintain previous week's tips

  • number 1, drink between 1 and 2 litres of water a day
  • number 2, eat five portions of fruit and veg a day
  • number 3, write down what you eat, how much and how often
  • number 4, walk as much as you can during the day (10,000 steps is a good target to aim for) and remember to lay out your walking clothes the night before!
  • number 5, eat only at defined meal and snack times (3 meals and 2 healthy snacks ideal) and don't pick in between. Remember "Kitchen pickers wear big knickers"!!
MrsDinky · 14/02/2010 20:39

Evening all,

Portsmouth did go and draw DH's team in the next round of the cup (Birmingham) cue marital discord in 3 weeks time (if Pompey haven't gone bust).

Sounds like yo have all had busy weekends (except WCTR of your bed day).

MrsG - geocaching, looks great, I looked into it a few weeks ago after seeing it on another thread but haven't got a GPS and my computer really doesn't like the website, keeps causing errors and shutting internet explorer. .

SC - well done on your paperwork clearing.

Well, I am halfway through decluttering the craft corner, I have to finish it tonight because it's all over the kitchen table. determined to do my handbag too, it's full of receipts. Also still need to do my menu planning and shopping list will have to do main weekly shop with 2 DCS in tow tomorrow instead of in peace on my own. So I'd better go and get on with it.

See you tomorrow.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 14/02/2010 21:28

ok - all of those who are a bit of my day in bed - it hasnt quite happened. felt a bit guilty for not doing anything so have done the ironing whilst watching the olympics. Also hoovered the lounge. Was just nice to have the option and a perk of the custordy arrangement. Tis supposed to be about 50:50 but as there is distance between us ex gets a good chunk of school hols to balance. Thankfully he works in a school to and has school hols off.

turns out ds was upset last night mainly cos he is ill. aparently his temp has shot up today. he sounded much happier when i spoke to him to read a bedtime story. i miss him already.

teamcullen · 14/02/2010 21:37

Hi everybody, Im new to flying, only started today.

I have a lovely clean sink
Decluttered and organised my under-sink cupboard and have added a washing up bowl to put dirty dishes before washing them
made DCs lay their clothes out for tommorrow
My uniform is in the wash for tommorrow (better late than never)

Any tips greatly welcome

swanriver · 14/02/2010 21:43

Still Counting - re: body clutter steps

I've done all that, it WORKS.
Six weeks later though, getting a trifle bored and less zealous, have reverted to sugar puffs and lumps of cheese

hope to step up the running around after the childrenwalking on holiday

well done on home study
in the end I did away with mine(it was a boxroom) and gave it to ds2. Twas the only way to stop myself literally chucking papers into it and quickly shutting door and running away. Actually it was difficult to even shut the door at one stage, it got jammed.
now paperwork is in corner of my bedroom, and every now and then I do some

droitwichmummy · 14/02/2010 21:53

Hi teamcullen and welcome!

Sounds like you have made a good start - sink looks really shiney from here
Best tip from me is not to try to 'catch-up' just jump in where we are and keep it manageable. If you try to do it all at once you will easily get demoralised and give up - well I would anyway . Also remember that some of us have been here forever so have built up to where we are now over several months. It is not a competition just loads of chat and support.

I'll be back with the links to tomorrow's babystep somewhere around 6.30 - see you tomorrow!

OP posts:
teamcullen · 14/02/2010 22:35

Thanks Droit. I had plans to do all kinds but then thought, No, just take it slow. Im going to start the bathroom tommorow, as that seems to be the new zone along with the baby steps.

droitwichmummy · 15/02/2010 06:52

Good morning!

Bathroom week this week

Mondays' daily focus is Home Blessing Must admit I DON'T do this on a Monday but do it over the weekend as more time. I think even the fat fairy admits to spreading it over the week instead of all in 1 day.

I would do the babystep if it didn't have DH still in it!

It's feather dusters out for today's mission. For those of us who keep thinking about sorting out out home office - have a look at the weekly mission above it

Have a good day!

OP posts:
elliepac · 15/02/2010 07:20

Morning everyone. Weekend went well and have got up to tidy house and shiny sink, it really makes a difference .

Still got the two worst rooms in the house to do though (ds and our room) so busy day ahead. Today it is the funeral of cm's babies (they both lived for about an hour but were too small to survive) so that is going to be really tough, i don't know how she copes .

Otherwise, list looks like this-
'do' ds and our room
carry on washing
sort dd's old clothes out to give to friend
maintain downstairs
get dd's birthday pressies/card
make lasagne
pay some bills
bake birthday cake
collapse in an exhausted heap

Big welcome to teamcullen, babysteps are the way to go. i have been here since sept. and still not conquered the housework monster but can now see the wood for the trees iyswim. Good luck and enjoy the thread.

mrsgok geocaching sounds very exciting!

sc yay! the office [proud emoticon]

wctr still jealous of your day despite you getting up. i would love to be able to do stuff without the rugrats, and dh for that matter, getting under my feet.

Anyway better go and get walking the walk instead of just talkibg the talk.
Big waves to everyone. Hace a nice day y'all

PositiveAttitude · 15/02/2010 07:24

Maths is obviously not fat fairies strong point then!!! Oooohhhh I feel like finding fault today! She says set the timer for an hour, then separates it into 7 sections and says 10 mins each. I am no einstein, but in this house 7X10=70!

Sorry,

Good morning Ladies.

You may have guessed I am feeling incredibly grumpy already this morning. WOken by cat jumping on my face at 3am. Put her out in the freezing cold garden, and then was woken by second cat trying to find the first cat at 5.30.

I am pleased bathrooms this week. Very containable areas and it being half term and DH week off means less flying for me.
Very pleased that washing is all up to date. Folding/sorting done and just a little mole hill of essential ironing to be done today.

Need to get the kids to blitz their rooms today. First day of the holiday is always room blitz day! Then we can all relax and enjoy the rest of the week. DD3s is lovely already. DS& DD4's are a nightmare. Their theory in clearing the room is to pick it all up and put it all in the wash bin!! - hence the empty wash bins in preparation!

MrsGok - Geocaching sounds fun. Wish I had known about this when mine were younger. Not sure they would be up for it now.

MrsDinky - Oh dear about the football. We are all avid supporters of the same team here. brainwashed by dh. so dont have that problem. 6 nations Rugby was pretty painful to watch yesterday, but the result is what matters. We support Bath rugby here too, and good result for them, although haven't been able to say that too much this year!

SC - Did you HAVE to pick that step this week?? - I already feel that if the week continues as it has started I am in huge danger of failing miserably and with knobs on!!

Morning to everyone else. I think i am going to return to bed and see if I can wake up again a bit less grumpy, or today could be a disaster.
