Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

How old are they MrsGok? Any older than 2 and I would have them tidying up the mess - maybe a game "who can put all of the hats/scarves/gloves away the fastest?" sort of thing

mrsgok i have no words of wisdom as am currently arguing with ds over tidying his toys.....i will not win so i feel your pain. Am going to do my list now i may be some time. Now where is that sink........

ellie my sink was like that ealier this evening. Couldn't see my sink let alone shine it - but its ok now DW is on, some bits left to put away.

DH has just rung - won't be home before about 3am (normally home by 11) so not stopping up to do his tea tonight - cottage pie will be in the microwave!

MrsGok - DD tipped all her teddies on the floor today, and then proceeded to tip a tub of small star shaped sequins all over them, thousands of nasty, sharp little things, has just taken at least half an hour to pick them out and we're probably be finding them for weeks....

Right so first day back and have managd to find sink under filth, complete general tidy downstairs and do necessary washing therefore i am rewarding myself with wine. Have a good evening everyone .

Evening! DS is asleep a whole hour earlier than yesterday so I'll have a glass of that wine if there is any to spare ellie

Parents evening went well and half term next week. DS spending it being shared between GPs and they are doing the ferrying around so I'll have lots of time to MN fly .

Not done everything I should have but I can get across kitchen to the sink which I couldn't do earlier. Just had a bath so will dry hair (long & thick so takes a while) and get to bed at a decent hour.

Ellie and WCTR - hope you have easier days tomorrow.

Mmango - my hair is a disaster at the moment, really don't know what to do with it and only had it cut the week before last . Colouring it seems like a good idea, needs something that's for sure.

Feeling a bit cabin feverish again now, haven't been out much this week due to DD and her ailments, DS has an inset day tomorrow so we're all stuck at home then too, but it's more fun with all three of us than just two TBH. Also our weekend plans are in jeopardy. No excuse for not FLying then, and indeed am fairly on top of things.

Managed to wipe down my appliances today, that is definitely a mission worth doing, seems to lift the whole kitchen. DD enjoyed "helping" too. The whole family is actually getting on board quite well with my new routines, a big tidy up downstairs by everyone before bedtime, rather than either a) me doing it later or b) not bothering at all is helping a lot. DS always knows which type of washing is due to be done each day.

Off to put the bins out, it's so cold out there, brrr. See you tomorrow.

I hope you don't mind if I come back too, I've been reading your posts, and they are so cheering - it's nice to have the mixture of people with older and younger dcs; it feels odd not to have cracked the housework after 10 years of practice - I see now it ws because I was busy, like you all...

Anyway - no hair news alas, mine is now Pippi Longstocking stage
I've invested in 10,000 hairbobbles for dd from pound shop (makes mornings v. pleasant)

Weightloss was going well until I bought some sugarpuffs in bulk. Have cut out baking for now, too tempting.
Exercise going well, healthy eating going well. Mealplanning going well, taking it with a pinch of salt and not getting too carried away with what I think I'm going to manage to whip up of an evening - sometimes it's just going to be baked potatoes and boiled eggs isn't it? (not same time admittedly)

Ringfenced the housework into manageable chunks for week, and ringfenced other activities too, so if housework doesn't happen, I still do the life enhancing stuff and not get bogged down, and then the housework comes round again anyway ifysim.

I would miss my teenage 9/10 yr old too Optimistic - I still see that little two year old in his nearly grownup face.
Stillcounting what admirable sewing - I am now dreading World Book Day, dd got a prize last year for wearing her normal clothes and pretending to be someone in Faraway Tree, this was considered very avantgarde!
This year she might have to be Angry Pixie.

MrsGok hope you've managed to restore order - am sure your shelves will soon be back to being organised. DWM please don't go to bed with wet hair - according to my mama that will ensure you will be immediately struck down with a cold

Not done too badly - got routines and mission done but not done babystep! Washing is in. Guides went well - they all enjoyed slapping on face masks, soaking their feet and doing hand massages and facials!

Good morning.

Internet was being temperamental last night which, according to teenagers means the end of their existence. By the time I managed to get it sorted and DCs placated I was too tired to type. So missed you all.

Yesterday was not as productive as I had hoped. Spent much too much time on the phone trying to get the embassies to agree. Mmm - it is nothing exciting. We adopted our youngest daughter from Russia 10 years ago and she has dual nationality. We are going on holiday to Greece in June and I need to know what the Greeks are going to need to allow her in the country without an embarrassing load of questions at the airport. But the greeks say they need one thing, the Russians say they wont give it....it is more of the beaurocratic nightmare we had throughout the adoption. I am going to try emailing instead today and see if I get any further.

OM - Before you know it you will have your 6'1" lump back with enough washing for a month and you will be annoyed with him within an hour of his arrival.

MrsGok - My only words for you are "oh Dear". I hope today is an improvement.

MrsD - I hope the impetigo disappears soon and you dont go crazy in the house today.

Waves to SC DWM MissB Ellie and Welcome back to swanriver and to everyone I have inevitably missed.

Pigeon update - I am very pleased to report that they seem to have found a new home and have gone off the idea of sitting on our sky dish bracket. I think that the broom handle poked up their bum could have had something to do with it. I will be ready if they dare to return.

Governors meeting was .....errrr.......interesting yesterday.
Parents evening was .......errrrr .......doubly interesting. Boys are definitely different from girls!! I think DS needs the broom stratigically put where it worked for the pigeon!!!! He will always take the easy option and do as little work as possible - and probably a lot less than is asked for! Teachers "moaning" about lack of homework is like water off a ducks back. My girls would all be horrified if they had not done everything asked of them and spent ages making it as good as they could. Quite a bit of ear bending last night!!!

Today I plan to get on top of things before the half term. DH off next week, so very little will be done then. DD4 is off for a camp this weekend so I need to get her packed today and drive her there straight after school.

Absolutely freezing cold here. DH just off for a cycle - mad man!!

Morning fellow flappers.

Do not want to move this morning have a head stuffed with cotton wool and my bones ache.

Did get the hall finished yesterday and hoovered but that is all I did. I would normally get them to help me but all the books went into the boxes a certain way according to size and there is no way they could have done that. While I was tidying that lot up they trashed their bedroom, mattress's on the floor, sheets off them, duvet covers and pillowcases off and all over the floor. Boxes of toys all on top of that. DH had fun getting them tidying up that lot at bedtime, took them nearly 2 hours and the littlies didn't get to bed till 9pm, still didn't stop them getting up at 6am rolls eyes . They are 4.5 and 2.7 so still youngish but shoud know better.

So today I need to

Do the downstairs loo.
Start on the kitchen. The sides are covered in goodness knows what and are unuseable at the moment, the sink is full and so is the draining board. The washbasket is overflowing and across the floor, there are various boxes and things piled up. I have just had a new bin delivered (more slimline) so the old one needs cleaning out and popping up on freecycle. The dining room is covered in toys, paper from a ream of paper for the copier and various detritus. So I guess my starting place will be the sink I don't intend to do it all. Just get on in 15 minutes bursts and do what I can. Will be resting lots. Will list things as I do them.

-morning routine - done (almost)
-mission - later
-send DD2 to school with option choice form - done - hooray
-car and handbag? Maybe the hand bag - the car is fullofcrap very cluttered and might take a long time in the cold
-stick to weightwatchers points (posting it to remind myself!)
-work

Spotty child is looking a lot better this morning, aren't antibiotics a good invention.

PA - glad your pigen problems have flown away, good luck with your embassies.

Swanriver - welcome back, we're atill all muddling along much as before.

MissB - glad the pampering went well, could do with a bit of that myself.

List for today

Get dressed - still in PJs as it is an inset day
Mop kitchen floor
Dishwasher, washing etc
Maintain some degree of tidyness with 2 housebound DCs underfoot
Spend as much time hiding out on MN doing important admin as possible

Today I am determined to

Go to work for two hours (at school)
after tidying at least sink and worktops
put away the clothes upstairs even if it means stuffing them in the drawers with my eyes shut

declutter handbag will have to do this eve
car is relatively decluttered (have resident black bin bag in there now) apart from enormous sack of compost I can't lift out and some seed potatoes which are chitting au naturel

Mrs Gok, really our house is like that all the time, you will get used to it
PositiveAttitude what a nightmare. A cousin met her husband on steps of Russian Embassy - emotions ran high waiting to get visas etc
Boys' homework - my dd is v conscientious about homework, the two boys will do as little as they can get away with. Possibly a skill not a fault later - not to spend too long on things, but just get them done

Mmm, handbags, definitely need to fit that one in sometime today. Car isn't too bad (it is only 3 weeks old!) - best thing I ever did for the car was buy a small pop up bin from woolies to keep in the back footwell and stuff all the tickets, sweet wrappers etc in instead of letting them loose.

positive - oh, good luck with the bureaucracy. We've had some complications because of dp's nationality - nothing on that scale, but i feel your pain. i've actually been putting off looking at the passport application form for dd2...

Evening all. Well my task for today was to survive and i have so therefore i can reward myself by doing nothing tonight . Lists will be mammoth over next few days as i try to get back on track before we have a houseful on tuesday for dd's 2nd birthday so i am resting in anticipation . Dh has just gone to get takeaway and a night of sheer idleness awaits. can't even consider the whole car/handbag thing, it is too traumatic to think about and there literally aren't enough hours left in the day . Today, i love my job!
