Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

MrsGok try holding down Alt Ctrl and pressing up button, this happens often at school!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 11:09

Wahey! done Cheers for that, will catch up with all you chatty lot.

mrsgrumpygruffalo · 12/01/2010 11:09

Was just popping back to say that if anyone needs plastic storage boxes Asda are doing a offer on lidded underbed storage 32 litre boxes for £3 and 45 litre for £4.
They are good sturdy boxes, have just bought 8 small and 2 large, now need to put somthing in them

whyme2 · 12/01/2010 11:09

Good mornign all - I am still here, just.

My new years resolution is to put all washing away as soon as it is dry rather than piling it all on the dining table. I knew it was bad when even the kids were looking there for clothes

Today
tackle bathroom,
sort papers in bureau
renew library books and pay fines mop kitchen floor

swanriver · 12/01/2010 11:32

So far
have done
Beds made by dd (7yrs)
breakfast cleared
dry laundry upstairs
ds2's drawers sorted
library books piled up
errant thankyou notes recovered
rubbish out
veg box folded up for collection
a (few) smelly things thrown out of fridge
cds returned to cd room
cat food dishes washed
I load of washing in

Still to do
LOTS off to do it now back when more accomplished ie: strip our bed and wash sheets
and more

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 11:46

SC definatly do not curtail your posts

I was really chuffed to get all the washing done as well. If I keep up with the way I am going then 1 wash a day will keep me on top of it and an extra wash every couple of days to do bedding and towels.

I overslept this morning too, must be something in the air lol! Though it wasn't to much of a problem because I had done my evening routine and everything was ready to go It made everything so much easier.

Right today I hve done

The morning routine. Yay! me

Put a gluten free bread mix in the read mixer but I have selected the wrong program and instead of 3 3/4 hours it is only going on for 3 1/4 hours. Any one got an idea how I finish it off. Should i just take the pan out and put it in hte oven to continue cooking?

Washing done and hung up and other clothes away.

Emptied a box that has sat i the corner of my kitchen since we got back from our camping trip in Oct. and put it all away.

Built the best Brio train track ever DC3 thinks his mummy is fab

To do

Mission

Also going to clean bathroom

Start tidying hall and declutter under stairs (only if I get a chance.)

Cook dinner. Need some help here ladies. Was going to do chicken pie but I usually use a condensed chicken soup for the sauce, just discovered I haven't got any. Has any one got any ideas for a sauce to go in the pie? I do have double cream and creamed veg cup a soup and mushroom and madeira cup a soup and plenty of milk. Any ideas greatly recieved, generally got a well stocked store cupboard so if you think of something not mentioned then I might have it.

Right off to tackle bathroom.

SparrowFflamau · 12/01/2010 13:00

Urgh. My kitchen is back to how it started.

Going to attack it during dinner cooking tonight.

I'm feeling much better and much more positive today. Amazing what a good, erm, night's sleep (we'll call it that....) can do for your mood

Oh been doing Tracy Anderson post pregnancy dvd for the last 2 evenings - it is about 45 mins of pure abs from what I can tell! (well, the first 20 is - I've died at the same spot each night so far). It hurts to move

feetheart · 12/01/2010 13:19

Mmmmm, chicken pie. You could make a white sauce (with added cream ) and just add any fresh/frozen veg as well as the chicken - we usually add peas and sweetcorn to ours. Bit of soya sance or something to add a bit of oomph to white sauce would work too.

Will do recipe for lemony bread and butter pudding later for those who asked (after I have finished last portion for lunch!!)

DS's first full day at pre-school went really well, thanks for asking. Has been going for over a year so I knew he but be fine but was shattered so in bed by 6.45pm!

Yesterday managed to:
make dinner
did mission - not hard as tiny bathroom
start curtains (will take a few more sessions of no children to finish them)
fiddled around with 'control journal
Failed to hoover so that is on today's list

Today so far I have:
Finished Tax Return (and they owe me money )
S&S
Dragged both DC to school/pre-school on sledge again and picked up DS - keeping me fit!
Birds fed
Worked for few hours - I am learning to do books/accounting/admin for business DH started in summer - it is a steep learning curve

Still need to:
Wash up - will do after lunch
Cat litter
Make pizza dough (will have pizzas as forgot to take lamb out of freezer last night - have added 'look at menu plan' to evening routine!
Hoover downstairs, hall and stairs
Sort out 'surprise' craft activity to do after school as requested by DD
Mission
2 mins/5 mins/15 mins!!!

feetheart · 12/01/2010 13:21

That was long

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 13:39

Glad you are feeling a bit better after some sleep Flame.

Well didn't get as far as the bathroom. Went into the hall and stood on a toy and broke it, so thought it time to do that. Under the stairs next, need to take the spare seats from the car out and put out for DH to put back in the car and then put the pushchair under, so we don't keep tripping over it.

Also realised I have 5 airers scattered round the hall/kitchen/lounge and most of it has dry washing on, have only been removing dry clothes when I have wet clothes to put out and now I am on top of the washing only need 2 airers max, so need to sort those out.

Also my delivery from approved foods has arrived so that needs to be put away.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 13:48

Thanks Feetheart will do that.

Definatly need that recipe for lemony bread and butter pudding.

Put the bread in the oven to tryh and finish but it it is hard outside and a doughy mess inside, oh! well worth a try.

tinselannabelltoo · 12/01/2010 13:58

Hello there,
I'm just popping in really. I wanted to send a huge thank you to everyone on this thread and especially to droitwich mum for getting me back on track with my chaos. I can hardly believe that two months or so ago every room was overflowing with clutter and I was stressed out instead of enjoying things. I know it was fly lady's original idea but the encouragement and support from you mumsnetters is what really did the trick.
less productive days come and they go, but generally our house is a nice place to be without the all or nothing, tidy up for guests approach we used to have.
Thank you so much and good luck
Annabel
P.S. big tin of for you all and a bottle of white for later this evening!

tinselannabelltoo · 12/01/2010 14:01

P.S I am probably disappearing for good because I have been ruly rubbish at posting!

MrsDinky · 12/01/2010 14:07

Hi Annabel,
Sorry you're leaving us but well done, sounds like this has made a real difference to you. Pop back if you ever need a bit more encouragement.

PositiveAttitude · 12/01/2010 14:27

MrsGok - Just doing a little bit of scrolling and I noticed that you ahd an upside down screen. Sorry if you have had this replied to before, but haven't got time for more scrolling at the moment. My cat did this to my laptop about a year ago. I finally got an answer off the microsoft website. I can't remember how to sort it off the top of my head, you ahve to hold FN down then do a series of othe rbuttons (really not my forte this, as you can tell!!) but just type "upside down screen" in google and you should be able to get an answer.
When my cat walked across the keyboard and did this I was going crazy for about a week!!

Back later for a catch-up!

swanriver · 12/01/2010 14:48

Decs in loft FINALLY
kitchen surfaces wiped
hall floor hoovered of sand and grit
2 bags of rubbish removed from loft
old shoes bagged up for recycling

Ah Positive it was you who helped me on Geeky stuff over something computery, I think you mentioned cat then (several months ago it was) I'd forgotten flipped screen prob

now room rescue of playroom
as linen cupboard will gobble me up if I don't shut door quickly - how do you fold fitted sheets

tibni · 12/01/2010 14:59

Hi all,

Had visit number 3 to gym this week - Sun, Mon, and Tues - just need to kick myself back into it.

After the gym I bought M-I-L and B-I-L birthday pressies and picked up some essentials from town.

Gave the kitchen a good clean last night and made an extra veggie lasagne for the freezer.

Now off to do 15 mins filing paperwork before dc's come home.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 15:10

PA we have it sorted thanks Just press ctrl+alt+up button and ta-daaaaaa!

swanriver haven't tried this yet but I saw a link to it onn a thread ages ago

folding fitted sheets

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 15:17

Eeek! pressed post before I meant to

Put the Approved Food stuff away, took forever as DC2+3 'helped' me.

All dry washing folded and some put away, only 2 airers out now.

Sorted out world war 3 between 2 & 3

Haven't managed to do under the stairs or bathroom so they can go on to tomorrows list.

Dc1 is now home from school so I have put them in a nice bath with lots of bubbles and toys while I make a start on dinner.

Mmmango · 12/01/2010 15:28

MrsGok -is dc3 coming down with something? I don't know if s/he is too old for a sling?
WtD - hello, welcome back to the internet
tibni - like your emergency iron purchase, very flylady. My response to a broken iron before joining the thread would have been to leave the ironing for a couple of weeks while debating whether old iron was fixable, followed by buying a new iron but keeping the old, broken one in a corner somewhere "just in case." I like your idea better.

SC and DWM - thanks for the encouragement, and I can see a difference already I think.

I've had a pretty good day - done:
morning routine
mission
decluttering of odd unnameable space outside the bathroom where we hoard stuff
new babystep didn't apply but I did sort out my emails a bit and delete some old contacts

Just about to start evening routine, then bed. Experienced babysteppers, I have a question - I think I'm done decluttering this zone. Should I look at fat fairy's cleaning list for the bathroom, or will it terrify me? I'm not sure if I should just do a normal, bog-standard (geddit) clean instead

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 17:00

Mmango DS3 is 2.7 so a wee bit big for slinging. Though I know some carry them up to 4, I am afraid my hips would go on strike . Don't think he is going down with anything just missing his brothers while they are at school/nursery after having them home for so long. As soon as DC2 came in the door from nursery at lunch time, he was trying to pull him up stairs, telling him " see track, mummy made track, we play trains, come play." Then they buggered off while I did a bit of flying and then made lunch and then proceded to murder each other.

Dinner is in the oven and on the hob. Just got to make a chocolate cake for afters and we are ready to go. Just takes so long to prepare some of these things, though I shall have enough pie filling to last for another meal.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 12/01/2010 17:25

evening - you have all had very busy days. I am tired and yucky feeling. I havent been out in the sun enough.

optimisticmumma · 12/01/2010 18:00

WCRT - poor you. I need sun too! Sounds like you've done loads.
Mmmango - yes just get stuck into the detailed cleaning in 15 min bursts! HTH

Just got in from school and had 2 cups of tea and lovely long chat with DS1 who is really happy to chat when his GF is also here so I have to make the most of it.

No flying today yet but I have:

thought about supper done

need to:
make up with DS2 who is v. angry i was 20mins late picking him up
make supper
do some more ironing
zone clean - 15 mins only for me
mission

Sounds like everyone has had busy days.
I want to ask about all this Wii fit stuff. 1)does it work? 2) which activities are the best ones?
My DC have Wii fit but I am yet to go on it . Thought I might give it a go...

SC - I think we should post a weightloss babystep that we make up ourselves if DWM doesn't mind. How about this week - drink 2 litres of water a day?

Ellie - where are you? We miss you? Post soon....

catch you all later...

PositiveAttitude · 12/01/2010 18:00

I have just discovered the quickest way to have teenagers wetting themselves in hysterics. .....They found me watching the "how to fold a fitted bed sheet". I mean Why???? Who is so sad that they actually make a film of how to do it? ---sorry, is it one of your hubby's in the film?
I think he should be wearing a tabbard and have loops through his pants and should be sprouting fat fairy wings!

Sorry, not a catch up as I have had a well deserved afternoon on my own and decided to do no housework. Nothing going to be done tonight as I am off to a meeting. Well, I say I have done nothing, but I have managed to cook spag bol, bread rolls & apple pie. I have also written a list for the supermarket and will try to persuade DH to go down after tea. He is a terrible shopper and I have to write a list in the order of the aisles, or he doesn't get it!!! Trouble is the shop has had a revamp recently and I haven't got a clue where anything is myself, so he will have no chance! I can see us not having much, but the poor cats are sat looking at the bowls with desperation in their eyes. He will HAVE to get their food!

Good evening everyone. Glass of wine out for a nice warm up after my meeting!

optimisticmumma · 12/01/2010 18:09

PA - x posts with you! How weird is that. We must have been watching that link at the same time. I just thought thank God my DH is not as pedantic as that! If I folded all our sheets like that it would take me all day!!
I did find myself strangely drawn to the idea though...
