Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

optimisticmumma · 11/01/2010 17:00

Afternoon all.
Work today so no flying yet although I think my hour of snow removal before children arrived at school counts!
So to do:
supper
ironing
lesson planning for tomorrow
a bit of zone cleaning
mission - if necessary

A big welcome for AJ and many congrats on the birth of your baby...
Sep how about ham and olive lasagne? It was in a good food mag I had so maybe on their website. If not let me know and I'll post recipe. My teens like it and fussy one can pick out the olives. It's just an assembly job really.
SC please, please don't curtail your posts I love reading them and am very impressed with the 4 aprons (notpinnies) you own!!

Right, got to get on. catch you all later.

walkthedinosaur · 11/01/2010 18:15

Hello ladies I'm back did you miss me (or had you not realised I'd disappeared)? I missed you all. My internet has been down for over a week so I haven't been able to catch up with you all - it's been terrible, I've had to interact with the children for long periods of time

As a plus point with nothing else to do I am on top of the house work.

You all seem to have been really busy and I'll read the thread shortly when I've got a minute but it's just so great to be back in internet land!

optimisticmumma · 11/01/2010 18:20

WTD - I missed you as I'm sure everyoe else did. Well done on all the flying. how's the new job going? Is DH snowed up with you or over here ???

MiniMarmite · 11/01/2010 19:20

Oh, yes we did miss you WTD, welcome back.

Hi Everyone, we had a house guest yesterday and overnight so I could not get on to say hello over the weekend. It did 'encourage' me to get some flying done though and I finally cleaned out my cutlery drawer!

I think I did reasonably well over the weekend but it was Daddy/DS day today so you can imagine...all my good work has been undone. DH did cook a fab dinner though but has now gone out leaving me holding the baby and the washing up!

Thanks for the reminder SC I did iron all of my three shirts things!

Welcome Amelia, you're brave starting with a little one but I really wish that I'd done that when DS was born. Welcome to Neenook and feetheart too (I think you're a newbie rather than a namechanger, right? I get so confused these days).

Right, off to sort out the aftermath of the Y chromosomes!

Have a great evening everyone.

tibni · 11/01/2010 19:45

Hi all,

Im still flapping along.

The office is coming along - I am determined not to put the junk back and sort everything properly.

I need to re establish my routines including going to the gym at least 4 times a week.

My iron broke at the weekend. I was determined to keep on top of the laundary so sent dh out to get a new one

waves to all

StillCounting · 11/01/2010 19:59

Body clutter hi-jack!

A few of you have asked about the Fat Fairy's 'body clutter' book (weight loss regime). It contains 14 chapters + an intro and each of them has a "body clutter mission" attached. I was thinking (with Mummys permission) I might post them on a weekly basis but unfortunately, most of them concern writing in a body clutter control journal about issues raised in the previous chapter and it's not easily translatable in to a couple of sentences ie cannot easily be reduced to baby-steps although baby-steps are contained in the text iyswim!! I'm open to suggestions though!!

Tbh I haven't quite started my new regime yet (have to turn up my tracksuit bottoms and find my pedometer) and fill the freezer with some healthy home-cooked soups/portion-controlled dinners but would be happy to post Flylady's tips once I have started and as and when I come across them in the bk... How's that?

For starters, here's some body clutter related info from the site:

www.flylady.net/images/bc_release.pdf

www.flylady.net/images/bc_investigator.pdf

StillCounting · 11/01/2010 20:54

Hi all, hope you've had a good day

Just procrastinating checking in en route from putting dd to bed and descending in to the bowels to do some laundry ....

Thanks for being kind about the length of my posts ....as you can see I have been very restrained this evening

Hello tibni great to see you. Yes, good idea, I meant to say in previous post that maybe those of us who are trying to lose weight could just perhaps share 'baby-steps' to include in our weekly routines and journals ie drink water, 10 mins exercise DVD, substitute 3 salads for 3 lots of carbs, or, like you, gym X 4. That might help us to motivate one another (and boy, do I need motivating - the chip pan was out tonight!!) Any other ideas welcome!!

Oh dear, Mini-M it is extraordinary the amount of havoc one man can wreak in under an hour, never mind an entire day and with a mini-man as accomplice!! Hope you get it sorted ...

Yay! Welcome back WtD of course we missed you [just to prove it, see my post 8 Jan, eve)!! lol at you having to interact with dc!! How's things: job, diy, dh??

Flaps wings at Optimistic - regarding the (red) cleaning pinnies, what is really sad is that I do actually attach a plastic bag to the waist to collect rubbish and bits of plastic toys ...when hoovering ...

Fab list this morning WhereChaos - how was the springbok?

Sep1712 - I'm a bit boring with ham. If it's good stuff I just serve it with baked spuds and a green salad ...for more processed variety, I snip in to strips with scissors and serve on top of tagliatelle, petit pois, sweetcorn and finish with grated parmesan, small knob butter and/or dash olive oil & black pepper (also v. boring but v. quick supper/lunch dish !!!) Sometimes do a quiche with ham too and again, if good ham: pea and ham soup (home-made with split peas) is excellent and economical winter dish.

Apologies if someone has already replied to this bit (getting confused as thread is so long!!!) but did you sort out bathroom mission OK? If in doubt, Google Flylady Flightplan and you will see the weekly zone info + detailed missions explained.

MrsGok congrats on conquering laundry

1981 contaminated water sounds a bit worrying with dc about .. hope they get it sorted.

Flaps wings at MrsD and Feetheart - v. impressed by your lists

Hope your dh has a lovely day tomorrow Neenook Mmango - don't get discouraged - you are doing well!! Flying with a baby IS hard - no perfectionism or "all or nothing" thinking allowed remember! Just a couple of 15 min burst of activities here and there ....and you'll see the difference ...promise!! (Hope that doesn't sound annoyingly cheery!!!)

Not bad at all SparrowFlamou - more power to your elbow!!

Eyes going a bit skew-whiff with all the scrolling so:

French study done
30 mins master bedroom done
afternoon/evening routine done

Whey - hey!!! Finally!! Making progress!!

StillCounting · 11/01/2010 20:59

Meant to add:

Pluto enjoy your last week of freedom!!! Sympathies as I am a very timorous driver too ...and not just in snow ...no one seems to be moderating their speed here either ...'tis a bit scary ...

PA just catching up with thread - well done for helping that poor woman ...she was lucky you were there.

Missed out saying hello to Swan too and flaps wings at anyone I have missed.

Still no sign of ShoppingVEggie???

droitwichmummy · 11/01/2010 22:17

Evening everyone!

SC I hate to say it but posting at 7.11 means there is no way I'm going to catch the 7.32 train! Got 8.05 in the end this morning NOT because I got up late (if I'm up late so is everyone else as I have to wake them up ) but because DH couldn't get the car up the hill in the ice!

SC good job we love your long posts because cutting it into 3 is cheating ! (and still no sign of shoppingveggie or annabel. If you are out there please pop in and say hello)
tibni lol at sending DH out to get new iron as soon as yours broke!
MM my lounge is covered with a light sprinking of random lego - and that was DS on his own
wtd look at you with your house all clean & tidy fab job!
om snow removal definitely counts - have some mulled wine to thaw out
chaos not just me who slept in this morning then - hope you enjoyed your v interesting-sounding tea!
sep great job clearing your list + some extra
MrsGok thanks for the plug for the museum. DS wants to go to a museum and go to London and go on the tube and go on an ordinary train so I was trying to work out where would be best for him
in1981 what was it about this morning? Was it a full moon last night or something? Hope your day improved
MrsD please take care of that back - get DH to do the hoovering and any stretching-type stuff. And don't move any furniture!
feetheart another plug for the museum. How was DSs first full day at pre-school?
neenook great start and yes phone calls can count. Just remember to take things steady so that you don't burn out. Ignore some of the lists on here, some of us have been flapping half-heartedly for months so the lists have lengthened whispers - doesn't mean it all gets done
Mmmango lists can sometimes look like you are repeating the same thing over and over. Sometimes that's because you are actually finding a routine other times it didn't get done last time round
Pluto 1 week to go! I guarantee there are things you meant to do while you were off but still haven't. That mat leave flies by so fast
AJ hope you have had a good day. I'm going to re-post a link for you to have a look at in case you missed it whilst lurking Enjoy
missb how are the cobwebs?

I'm happy for anyone to post bodyclutter links - just don;t expect me to follow them!

Where's ellie today?

missbennett · 11/01/2010 22:20

Feetheart lemon curd yummy bread and butter pudding? recipe? Pleeease......?

Well this is what I've done:

swish and swipe - done
mission - done
iron church linen to take up with me later done
sympathy card to write done
form to go in post for DD2's trip with Guides in the summer done and stamped with card to post tomorrow
continue with Baby Steps. - sink shiny, and will choose tomorrow's outfit when I go up to bed. Habits definitely getting easier!

Everybody else seems to be doing well too - please join me in a smug glass of wine!

Weight loss baby step - start again with the next meal - don't write a whole day off if you've gone mad at any point - just jump in where you are - where did we hear that before.....

MiniMarmite · 11/01/2010 22:25

Ooh yes, recipe please Feetheart that sounds fab.

And please help me decide on my weekend cooking ladies if you have a spare moment!

Pluto · 11/01/2010 22:46

You are sooooo right DWM there are many many many things I had planned for mat leave but somehow they just never got done. I blame it all on that baby demanding so much of my time . How very dare he It has been a fantastic year mainly spent cuddling and bfing DS2 and watching a lot of things on Sky+ and doing several hundred school runs with DS1...

...and the occasional bit of housework.

I have no regrets at all about this marathon of lounging mainly on the sofa and enjoying DS2's first year. I am really going to cherish the memories but I am also determined to make going back to work work for us as a family and try to follow the cliche work to live not live to work. You may need to remind me of this rather frequently though from next week.

MrsDinky · 11/01/2010 22:57

Evening, another one here who is impressed with Amelia for flying with such a young one. Start as you mean to go on, I wish I had.

Well, after a slow start, got back on top of things just about.

Feed birds - done
Swish and swipe - done
Cobwebs (haven't got an air vent in bathroom but there is one in another room wall which needs a bit of attention) - done, both yuck.
Move stuff back to correct places after party - done apart from furniture, DH's job.
2 lots washing - one done, two done
Sweep crumbs - really should be hoover, but need to mind my back, swept.
Dishwasher etc, shine sink - done
Find homes for yet another lot of presents - not done
Have spent a lot more time than usual walking everywhere today, but have managed packed lunches, clothes for tomorrow, just need to round up all the gloves, scarves, etc and we're good to go (sorry, just spent 10 years working for an American company).

I'm missing one of my fellow Hampshire residents - DTG where are you? Hope all is OK

Off to bed. Night night.

droitwichmummy · 12/01/2010 06:48

Good morning everyone - up on time today
washing on, last night's load on airer, dry stuff ready for sorting/ironing, rubbish in dustbin in hope that binmen might turn up today

Todays babystep is an easy one so you can catch your breath a bit (we don't try to catch up remember - just carry on from here)

A (hopefully quick mission today too! Is the fat fairy being kind to us?

Have a great day

walkthedinosaur · 12/01/2010 08:24

Good morning everyone, (it's nice to be saying that) this morning I have:-

Done breakfast and loaded DW
Wiped dining table and kitchen sides
S/S bathroom
Emptied washing machine and put laundry on airer
Stuck in another load of laundry to do

To do:-

Paid work (boo internet is back so it's back to work for me)
30 - 45 mins on Wii Fit - I'm determined to look good in a bikini this summer
Eat the rest of the Christmas chocolates and cakes so that once they're gone they can stop tempting me
Might try a fly mission in my bedroom clutter is starting to build up
Go to Post Office this afternoon
Drop bags of rubbish off at the bins

I'm going to get on now so that I have time to do all this stuff - have a good day one and all

missbennett · 12/01/2010 08:29

Good Morning! All are up and off to school and I managed to get some breakfast down them today as well!
Swish and swipe - done
Bath and enjoy looking at cobweb-free ceiling - done
Still to do:
-mission
-sweep kitchen floor
-ironing
-if I don't go swimming (depends on friend and weather!|) sort out bathroom cupboard
-apply the 15 minute prinicpal to work and see if I can get things ticked off my list there as well!

Bye for now.......

MrsDinky · 12/01/2010 09:19

Morning all.

Done today:

School run. It takes so long to get all those gloves, scarves, hats, extra socks on the little people! DD saw me putting body lotion on my legs yesterday and asked why I was putting suntan cream on in the winter, at least we don't have to put that on them at this time of year.

To do -
2 lots of washing
Swish and swipe with extra mission bits
Declutter bathroom
Disassemble unused party bags, put away unused plastic cups etc
Decluttering - our bedroom is a lost cause till DH moves the coffee table back out of there, can hardly get in the door. Will have a go at DCs bedrooms.
Dishwasher

Another one here who needs to lose weight but is not very motivated. Also got a lot of leftver crisps and biscuits from DD's party. Might try Davina's workout DVD while DD is at pre-school this afternoon. See you later.

mrsgrumpygruffalo · 12/01/2010 09:24

Morning everyone

Just popping my nose round the door to say hello and say ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh blooming computers turns out laptop is not fixed and has now given up completely and has taken a trip to Pc world AGAIN!

Lovely Fil has lent me his old one but it's slower than a very slow dinosaur and crashes every 10 mins so I'm learning to speed post!!

Clutter is reaching epic proportions after having both kids plus DH stuck in the house all last week, have all gone back today but with heavy snow forecast for this afternoon it's not looking good for tomorrow.

Plan for today is to do a quick blitz and tidy the lounge.
Book kennels for the dog.
Rearrange vet appt
15 mins wii fit
Shine sink - I confess my sink is extremely un shiny and in need of tlc

Hope everyone has a good day

Pluto · 12/01/2010 10:16

Good morning

Done

d/w loaded
baby ready for CM
one load in w/m
s/s
beds made
emails to work
admin bits

to do
hang first load, get another in
do 2 important bits for school
ironing
yesterday's mission - forgot to ask DH
today's mission

I am pleased with myself. I have morning and evening routines pretty much sorted now, I feel they are going well, which is really going to help with going back to work. I think I joined this thread in the summer so it has taken a while but having all you gals out there to keep me motivated has definitely been the kick up the backside I needed.

Not sure how missions are going to fit in with working but I will have a cleaner once a fortnight and I may ask her to focus on any that particularly apply to the Pluto residence.

I also need to continue with the decluttering. Christmas has taken it's toll on this front but that's going to be have to be a once a week 15 minute blitz when I'm off on a Friday.

pushmepullssantassleigh · 12/01/2010 10:19

Hi ladies

I'm back too . Had a mn and general computer break over Christmas and the New Year, but now need to get back into flying with avengance

House is generally not too bad, but definitely suffering a little from the lack of structured cleaning - I have been far more ad hoc over the last few weeks.

Am going to ease myself back in gently as am working full time again now and also have a cold, so my list today is:

Dentist for 2 fillings
clean sink!
hoover kitchen stairs
fold and put away washing
clean cat litter tray

Big hello to everybody old and new. Haven't managed to cath up with the thread yet and you have all been so chatty (or is that cleaning efficient?) that if I try to do it now I won't get any of my list done

pushmepullyou · 12/01/2010 10:27

...and de-Christmas my mn nickname!

ln1981 · 12/01/2010 10:31

morning everyone.
dwm i have completely written yesterday off! I managed to do most of the things that needed doing and then went for a meeting that isnt actually till next week!

SC think its been fixed. the road is all closed over now, and there was a digger trying to break up and clear the ice on the road. some of the teachers werent too happy about it either.

Today however has started of quite promising (despite being woken by the dc's playing the noisiest game eve at half 6)so lets hope it continues!

SO far, i have done the breakfast things, a load of washing and put away some of yesterdays laundry.

To do
-todays mission
-15min declutter (may attempt the toys behind the sofa again)
-quick dust in the living room
-make shopping list for tomorrow
-shine sink.

Hope you all have a lovely day. Catch you all later.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 12/01/2010 10:56

Just a quicky as I have a clingy child at the moment. Not been able to crack on with DC1's bedroom as he won't leave me alone and I don't want him in there. So I am hoping there is a snow day this week and DH will be off and I will be able to get in the and at least crack the back of it.

DC3 has switched my screen to upside down so I am having difficulty reading and posting, if any one know's how to switch it back again............HEEEEEEEEELP!!

Please!
