Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

I want those moshulu slippers! They look wonderful! Better check funds.....

Anyway, quick update. In addition to the chilli (which was absolutely lovely and has made two meals - tonight's tea with rice and tomorrow will put into dish, top with tortilla chips and cheese and bake in oven then serve with salad - v. simple but v. yummy!), home blessing (well more or less - enough to make me feel I'm tidy-ish!) and church, I've sorted out Guide letters and taken them to the post and gone through work bag and made to-do list for the week, plus read some papers as well.

So I'm ending the weekend feeling ready for the week ahead and almost in control! I know I've a lot more to do to sort out the crap stuff in the house, but it is beginning to feel as though I might get there eventually. Its keeping on top of what I've done and doing a bit at a time very regularly that seems to be helping. And this thread is most encouraging - thank you everyone!

StainlessSteelCat · 10/01/2010 21:25

Well I've done some dishes, and I did 2 hot spot 2 mins. Think that isn't bad under the current conditions. My sink isn't clear and it won't be shined, but tomorrow is back to work so I should be able to focus more during the day

droitwichmummy · 10/01/2010 21:53

Hello everyone - bottle of wine open

Had a decent weekend flying-wise. DH took my not-too-veiled hint and finished the vacuuming while I put DS to bed tonight some Home Blessing finished apart from the bins - no collection for a week so I can't see the point of emptying ones that are not overflowing. Bin men due tomorrow & our road looks ok now so I'm hoping they will come

What have you all been up to then?

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 10/01/2010 22:03

Glad I am not the only one who wears and apron, definatly not a pinny OM , too heavy duty for that lol!

Have done the kitchen floor and it is looking really good. Didn't get the 15 minutes in the hall, but hey!never mind, I have done more this week than I have done in a long while. DH was just commenting on how it helps having the kitchen clean and straight and some routines in place.

Glad the the party went well MrsD. I bet that is a load of your mind.

Love those funky slippers . These are similar to the shoues I wear.
www.moshulu.co.uk/products-KYLA_KYLA.htm

Hope your back feels a little better tomorrow.

Looks like the DC's school, nursery and DH's school is open tomorrow as well,so will have to do sandwiches tonight for lunch boxes and uniform out.

Sounds like a fun weekend sep1712 and yep! another nit checker here.

Chaos love the sound of that chicken, will have to try that.

See you all in the morning ladies, sleep tight.

ln1981 · 10/01/2010 22:22

big waves to everyone!
sorry not checked in earlier, been out most of the day. Just shopping though, nothing too exciting.

dwm thanks he is a bit better now, poor thing has had various coughs, cold etc so hopefully once this has cleared he'll get a bit respite from it for a while.

well i managed to do some tidying up, namely hoovering, mopping the kitchen, cleaning the downstairs toilet, some decluttering in the kids room and the ironing. Also have a shiny sink! Cant wait for new zone tommorow, am looking forward to it! See you all tomorrow.

sep1712 · 10/01/2010 22:35

Chaos, thanks for that, sounds lovely. I'm going to make that for tea tomorrow with rice and peas. Do you wrap it in foil to stop it drying out?

Neenook · 10/01/2010 22:49

Well, I managed to make a bit of a start:

Cleared up upstairs - put loads of clothes either away or into laundry basket.
Made beds.
Generally tidied up a bit.
Uniform is ready for tomorrow and shoes are polished, bags are packed and dinner money cheque in DS2s' bag.
Have planned meals until Friday - major budget in force

Looking forward to starting properly tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice so far - this is a great thread

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 10/01/2010 23:05

Yes foil over the top, although i use a roasting dish with a lid so dont remember that bit
I tend to do it with herby roast veg - something else lovely friend suggested.

droitwichmummy · 11/01/2010 07:11

Overslept!!!!

Babystep is here

Mission is here

Later......

missbennett · 11/01/2010 08:22

Morning! Thank you for posting droitwichmummy in spite of oversleeping! Hope the day improves.......

Mission is very appropriate for me - have been looking at cobwebs in bathroom of ages now when I've been in the bath and keep thinking must do something about them. Well, today I will!

Not a lot today as work then a meeting at church later, but.....

swish and swipe - done
mission
iron church linen to take up with me later
sympathy card to write
form to go in post for DD2's trip with Guides in the summer
continue with Baby Steps.

See you all later.......

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 11/01/2010 08:25

Morning fellow flyers.

Hope everyone is well this morning.

I looked out of the window last night, about 1am and the snow was falling and there was about 2inchs of it covering the cars etc. When I got up this morning the car did not even need have to e de-iced, so every is at school/nursery today. Just have DC3 home.

As the rooms this week are Bathroom and one other room, I am going to be doing the bathroom and DC1's room. I still haven't sorted it from putting the shelves up in there. it's going to be fun.....not, as a lot of hte boxes have their contents spread over the floor or in other boxes where the other 2 went in and trashed it. Though goodness knows how I am going to do it with little one trying to help.

So to do list is
Washing. 1 load out already and another load in.
Keep up with washing up
Bathroom
DC1's bedroom.

Doesn't look much but DC1's room will take up a lot of time this week.

AmeliaJaneAgain · 11/01/2010 09:42

Morning all, can I get back on board please? I think I tried to start flying in November but was just too pregnant to keep it up!

Anyhow, new year, new baby, lots of new mess... so I need to get on track. The sink is full of bleach as I type, fingers crossed it goes better this time.

droitwichmummy · 11/01/2010 09:44

Welcome on board AmeliaJane. Just jump in where we are and you will soon get back in the swing of things. Good start with the sink!

Pluto · 11/01/2010 09:54

Oh No! Just seen today's mission - cleaning the fan vent in the shower room. I have been looking at that for the last few weeks and wondering when the fat fairy would be telling me to attack it. Gross gross gross. Perhaps DH (who is still off school with snow ) will take pity...

Today:

w/m on done
hoover stairs and landing done
meal plan for week and shopping list done
do MN school work prep for next week while DS2 sleeps doing to* do

hang laundry when w/m finished
beg DH to clean shower room vent
make a list of things of to do for work to avoid actually doing anything
hot spots in living room
trudge to shops pushing pram in snow - very hard work - and do boring errands.

Try to make the most of my last week of mat leave and do something nice for myself and DS2 this week. If only I felt braver about driving - our road is really hard to get out of.

StillCounting · 11/01/2010 09:57

Morning all, hope everyone is keeping warm and have reached school/offices safely in the snow ...

It snowed lightly but fairly consistently all weekend here so we now have 2 or so inches more on top of the old stuff ...

Am at work so briefish post now and back later...

You are obviously all getting v. serious now with the mention of pinnies and proper footwear etc... I have four pinstripe numbers (two red for housework, two navy for cooking)

Mummy (I think posting at 7.11 am counted as 'early' for me when I was doing it!!) and you even interrupted your Sunday morning lie-in yesterday to post steps ...now that's dedication!!! THANK YOU!!!

Glad you survived the party MrsDinky -

Great party game idea with cards MrsBennett

Try to write much more succinct posts!!!!! work in progress!!

Monday

Glad we are in bathroom this week but that's the only bit of my house that's not cluttered so I can catch up in other areas.

House still not totally recovered from holiday/Christmas/snow etc but starting to see some progress ....

Back later ...

StillCounting · 11/01/2010 10:00

That wasn't really brief, was it ...

And it should read glad bathroom BECAUSE only bit of house uncluttered

A warm welcome to AmeliaJane and many congratulations on your new arrival

Mmmango · 11/01/2010 10:51

Just checking in. Have finished babysteps (not todays', my messy house is the only inspiration I need). Was interrupted by crying dc's 1/2 way through decluttering bathroom; if baby is still asleep when I finish posting I'll go and finish my 15 minutes. Am amazed at the amount of clutter in our tiny bathroom.

Is the fat fairy annoyed with us? Has she discovered her nickname? Blardy Monday mission. Have done cobwebs, no air vent to clean - fat fairy suggests cleaning the light fixture instead but I'm too freaked out by the certainty possibility of finding lizard eggs. I think Pluto has the right idea today, 'tis a job for dp. Now I just need to convince him of that

Am too depressed to post list; it's exactly the same as last weeks'. On the other hand I am getting obsessed with much better at tidying as I go. Both the kitchen and the living room are looking pretty good by my very low standards.

StillCounting I like your posts just the way they are!

Amelia Welcome, when was your baby born? COngratulations

sep1712 · 11/01/2010 11:06

Morning everyone,

More snow here, that plus other problems there's no work for us today again, i do hope we can eat by the end of the month!!!

D/w done.
Everywhere tidyish.

I need to,
Sort the chickens.
Put bread maker on.
Clean the sink and sides.
Do the ironing.
Maybe walk the dog.(thats a big maybe??)

Enjoy your flying ladies.

Welcome AmeliaJane, big wave. you'll love it here, everyones so helpful.

Did i read it right? We're meant to be polishing the wood in the bathroom??? If so that lets me off, i haven't got any!!! (thats wood in the bathrooms not bathrooms) I've confused myself now.

Have a great day all.

Neenook · 11/01/2010 11:38

Morning everyone,

No snow here at all, has been trying a bit this morning but just melts where it falls.
Today I will get to grips with babysteps.

Have also so far;
Tackled monster ironing pile
Made phonecalls I have been putting off for ages (does that count?)
Made soup (well, chopped veg and chucked it in the slow cooker)
Shopped for DH's birthday tomorrow

I would really like the house to be lovely for DH's birthday, so will drag myself off the thread go and get on with it now...

Neenook · 11/01/2010 11:42

Oops sorry! That was supposed to be drag myself off the thread

feetheart · 11/01/2010 12:20

Had lovely time at Science Museum on Saturday thanks and meal out too (I love Money Saving Expert - got voucher for half price pizzas at Pizza Express so fed 4 of us for under £25 just round corner from Harrods )
Quiet day yesterday as DC shattered but did:
2 x loads washing (1 normal and 1 of stuff to ebay)
Get DH to put decorations in loft
Sort out stuff in loft to ebay
Make lemon curd and yummy lemony bread pudding
All the ironing (easier than usual as not many school/work things!)
Watch Ice Age 3 with DC

Today DS has his first full day at pre-school and I have PLANS

So far I have:
S&S
Dragged both DC (plus DD's friend) to school/pre-school on sledge
Washed up
1 load washing done and hung up
Cat litter done (yuck)
Birds fed
Cleaned cooker hood and stove top
Cleaned kitchen floor

Still to do:
Make Macaroni Cheese for dinner
Hoover living room, hall and stairs
Make a start on curtains for DD's room - we decorated 2 years ago and I have been promising them ever since

Lunch first I think.

MrsDinky · 11/01/2010 12:42

Morning afternoon all,

A bit behind today, the shock of having to get up in time for school again after last weeks lie-ins. Took longer than usual to get round school and pre-school, then went into town for retail therapy essential groceries, having been housebound for what seems a very long time.

So, todays list

Feed birds - done
Swish and swipe
Cobwebs (haven't got an air vent in bathroom but there is one in another room wall which needs a bit of attention)
Move stuff back to correct places after party
2 lots washing - one done
Sweep crumbs - really should be hoover, but need to mind my back
Dishwasher etc, shine sink
Find homes for yet another lot of presents
And so on and so on

Catch up later

ln1981 · 11/01/2010 12:44

hi evryone.
Hello ameliajane hope it goes better for you this time and congrats on your new arrival.

this morning has a been a bit of a wash out but i managed to put a load of washing on and clear the breakfast stuff before school.

SPent an hour at school waiting to find out if it was gonna be closed as they have contaminated water supply from a burst pipe, luckily dp's mum is school cook there and she let me hide out in her office where it was warm. The school hasnt closed though im sure for health and safety they probably shoud be (no emergency access either as the drive to school has been dug up to fix said water pipe).

our snow has started to disappear, and in its place is really treacherous ice-not sure which is worse!

Anyway, the list for today is
-tidy lunch things
-put washing on airer
-babystep, and read up about what a control journal actually is!!
-the mission
-15min declutter in bathroom (cupboard is full to bursting)
-letter for school
-shine sink.

hope you all have a lovely afternoon

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 11/01/2010 12:45

Not got a lot done as DC3 has been very clingy today.

Managed 4 lots of washing as I stripped the beds.
Washing is up to date.
Bathroom fan will have to get DH to do as I can't reach even with step ladder.
Have't made a start on DC1's bedroom yet, will probably try when DC1&2 are back and DC3 has some else to play with.

Congratulations on the baby Ameliajane Feetheart my family loves the History and Science museum to. We went camping in London in the October half term and spent several days there. Have promised to take DC1 on hte train there sometime with out the other 2.
