Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

sc think everyone is allowed one of those kinda days.

our sledging was fun. can you believe i had never done it before tonight, how sad is that?! dd nearly slide right into the burn at the bottom of the hill which was v. scary- i had jump in her way and knock her to the side-she thought it was hilarious!

well, still got to do the last few things on the list, namely the ironing and shining the sink. gonna give the 15min declutter a miss tonight as we didnt get back til about an hour ago, and got school bags to sort. will just do extra tomorrow methinks.

then a shower and some cider-bliss

sep1712 · 07/01/2010 21:54

Hi everyone,

I'm really getting the hang of this,

My list of done job!

Attacked the bathroom with a tooth brush and cilict bang...looked lovely till the dc used it!

Cleaned the cuboard fronts again as dd had a soup explosion yest, did the tops and cilic banged the taps. My kitchen hasnt looked this good since i had fitted! (just dont open a cuboard!).

30 min Wii fit.

Sarnies and clothes are ready for tomorrow.

It did help that 2 oldest DC went to school (only school in our town to open, i love our head!)DD nursery pm and dh went to work for me.

Is feeling this smug wrong?

I've got a slow cooker with dust on so would love some ideas for my work days.

Good luck tomorrow guys

MrsDinky · 07/01/2010 22:27

Wow WC you have baffled me. Are you doing Science PGCE? I have been toying with this as a future career move, but am now feeling a bit scared! And I have just spent 10 years in a job which consisted of reading long and complicated documents. Good luck with getting it finished.

Both DCs school and pre-school are closed again tomorrow. They refused to set foot outside the door today, so I have been in all day and have cabin fever, esp. at the thought of another day of it. Having said that, achieved quite a lot of flying, it is nice not having to keep an eye on the clock for school runs etc.

Todays list

2 lots of washing - done
Hoover - front room and hall after chucking the Xmas tree out into the drive (wedged between abandoned car and hedge)
Tidy kids bedrooms - yes, but they made a lot of mess, overall no different to this morning
Ironing - done
Clean worktops (luckily I decluttered them a bit last week) - 90%. didn't move microwave or coffee machine
Play with DCs, who resolutely refuse to go out in the snow. Our Sky box is playing up and we've been watching a Tweenies video over and over again this week - Good playing today, Sky came back too.

Have found an old cot mattress which is making an excellent indoor trampoline for the kids to burn off som energy, I am pleased I hadn't decluttered that!

Also cleaned toilet, bath and basin, and more general decluttering, I have really got the bit between my teeth at the moment, am finding hotspots that I never even noticed before, they are so numerous. This thread is so motivational! Off to make my bed and read for a bit, night night.

droitwichmummy · 07/01/2010 22:30

Hi everyone

Late posting tonight so not doing round-up. Off to bed as I am going to work tomorrow. Made contingency plans for DS involving DH taking him to PIL (30 miles but mostly motorway) on the way to work and picking him up after his last stop tomorrow night which in only down the road from his parents.

Not done everything but have put washing away and packed a 'just in case' bag for DS in case the weather turns so bad that DH can't get to him.

See you in the morning - roll on Spring!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 07/01/2010 23:04

MrsDinky - yep science pgce. Its partly my own fault due to my choice of question to investigate - vocabulary and resource accessibilty but never expected to be hiding out in the linguistics field. Its a bit out of my field. My linguist mother is highly amused.

My problem is i am dyslexic so complicated reading matter is a nemisis as is essay writing. My lie down has helped and i have been resucing for an hour. Have progressed the work as well as tweaked.

OM i will summarise for you if you like - when i have a clear head. That bit is part of my critical analysis of the theories of learning language. So the skinner-chomsky bit is where i have started but not the most influential bit.

missbennett · 07/01/2010 23:20

Walked to Guides - nice in a cold sort of way! Not many girls turned out so a nice quiet start to the term!

Got home and
-washed up mountain of pots
-did mission - all looks lovely in there!
-packet of wipes in bathroom ready to swish and swipe - splendid idea thanks commuter
-put on load of washing
-wrapped presents for DD1
-sink shiny and clear!

Christmas decorations not made it to the loft however!

DD1 very fed up - school open for years 10,11,12 and 13 but not year 9. So she has to go and DD2 gets day off. Thinks very unfair as is her birthday!

night night all. See you tomorrow!

swanriver · 07/01/2010 23:32

Now I want to read about Chomsky Chaos. I vaguely recall something about dogs and jokes
DONE
Very boring post here to say I've caught up with the laundry finally (and bought 3 packets of washingpowder so never run out again)
just waiting to hang last load out
cleaned kitchen which had been looking horrid all day and made me very badtempered
put all recycling in hall
sink shiny

I mealplanned for the week on Monday and bought food, but dh has gone and bought lots of new food which doesn't fit into my plan Tough one, be grateful or grind my teeth that he keeps outwitting my attempts to be organised. I think we will eat it eventually

Droitwich - well done on finishing the crosstitch - are you going to start a new one

MrsDinky · 07/01/2010 23:57

Well, here I am still on the computer at midnight. What on earth did we all used to do with our time before the internet? Have just booked a holiday for May half term, hopefully the snow will have gone by then....

Am a bit about the weather forecast, more snow on Sunday, which is when DD's birthday party is scheduled in a local vvillage hall.

Must go to bed. Catch up tomorrow.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 08/01/2010 02:52

Its the right length and all the aspects that need covered have been. Lets hope i am well enough to take it intomorrow. I am currently shaking so much my muscles ache. Sleep is in order, me thinks. Happy flying tomo.

elliepac · 08/01/2010 06:02

morning everyone,

didn't manage to get on yesterday as someone has managed to break the wireless switch on my laptop so couldn't get connected grrrr. have managed to find a cable but am currently sat in front of my home hub because lead not very long. had to get on in the vain hope that my school may be shut.

now i could post a list about how tidy my house is but it would all be a lie because although it is tidy it is not me that has done it . dh is out of work at the moment (he's in construction and that's a whole other worry) but at the moment he is putting inself in the runnning for sahd of the year. he's been tidying everyday, cooking tea every night and generally being wonderful. all very out of character housework wise but am not complaining . doubt he will get as much done today. cm's heating has broken so has to take ds to school and have dd all day. dd wraps him round her little finger so should be interesting!!!

will catch up with thread later but hope all poorly dc's are better, all grown-ups are better and everybody is managing to keep warm!

have a good day

droitwichmummy · 08/01/2010 06:37

Good morning! Managed to sleep all night - not woken by cats or DS once!

All my contingency planning yesterday was worthless as school is open AIBU to mutter that I would rather they were closed as because its Friday I will have to pick DS up from after school club and trudge home with him in the snow and ice (30 mins in normal weather)?

Anyway, some sort of normality today
Today's babystep is about routines

The mission is to clean the floor. If you have done that then the mission for the week (at the top of that link) is to clear out the junk drawer, I have lots of those

Last day in the kitchen folks - next week we do the bathroom

See you later

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 08/01/2010 07:28

Morning ladies, hope everyone had a good nights sleep. I'm chuffed as I onky woke the once.

Today I need to

Keep on top of washing up.
Put washing on done
Finish middle work surface
Do other work surface and cooker top.
Sweep and wash floor.

DH is in school today (20 odd miles away) . DC1 is in school as well, but it is down a steep hill and up a steep hill, so we will see how far I get, may have to turn round again. We will be late what ever happens.

Right off to finish getting ready, see you later ladies. Into the breach I go.

missbennett · 08/01/2010 08:14

Morning! Passes Quality Street round as it's a birthday today!

Glad people seem to have been getting better sleep, essays finished and children recovering!

Work again today but out to lunch with friend

DD1 on way to school, DD2 and DH in bed.

Today's mission will be a challenge as I have no mop. Is very small floor and generally do it - that's generally as in when I do it rather than in frequently mind! - on hands and knees with a floor wipe. But they have dried out!!! So first part of mission will be to get mop or more wipes. Then I can do the floor! And will try and write out routines as I think helpful.

Other jobs?

  • nag ask nicely if decorations can be put in loft as annoying me now
  • washing out of machine
  • food shopping - should have gone on Wednesday but didn't due to weather.

See you all later!

Pluto · 08/01/2010 08:46

Right, the timer is on. I have until 10am to complete the following..

shower, dress
S&S
Put ironed clothes into correct drawers
Hang one load of washing and get another into the w/m
Mop hall floor (may not bother - snow makes such a mess might be better to wait until it's all gone)

At 10.30am I am having a great big molar (2nd to back on top right) extracted.

Then all I have left to do is

cry
start saving for an implant

StainlessSteelCat · 08/01/2010 08:54

morning!

Still no hot water, washing machine frozen solid, washing piling up ...

today:
baby step (play catch up really)
wash up
hoover kitchen
tumble tots for DS/settling session for DD
dentist (eek)
phone appt wth doctor this morning (DD still having occaisional possit/vomit - not helping the washing problem either!)
B&Q
find carpet fitter's number
ask for references so I can start work next week (Oh the lack of motivation here ...)

MrsDinky · 08/01/2010 09:47

Morning,
Lemsip here again if anyone needs it, can't shake off this cold, it's worst in the mornings.

WCTR - hope you get some much needed rest today

SSC - hope washing machine/water can be sorted quickly

Pluto hope the dentist isn't too bad

MissB - I use a microfibre cloth for the kitchen floor, works a treat, just chuck it in a hot wash after (sorry SSC). My floor isn't huge I might add.

DCs school and preschool both helpfully posted closures on the internet last night so I have had a lie in (DH got them breakfast befor going to work) and left them in front of a DVD, bless.

So, another day at home.

Washing
Hoover upstairs
S+S
Tidying
Declutter in the DVD zone

We acquired lots of DVDs at Christmas and the shelves are already groaning, so that is today's hotspot.

Better go, see you later.

sep1712 · 08/01/2010 09:47

We're off to a flying start!!!

Its lovely to come down to a tidy house!

DH working today so he did boys brekie and took them to school, he even loaded d/w. I feel a bit redundant.

Baby steps a good idea for us, writing a routine down makes sure who ever is at home gets the jobs done!

The children have always had theirs written down with rewards for the end of the week, might do the same for us ( nice take away and a bottle?). Think i must have to much time on my hands and need to busy myself. I've been used to us both working full time and finding it very strange having all day to get everything done.

Where the choas rules, i hope your feeling better today and had a nice relaxing night with the pressure off you now. Make sure you take care of yourself.

Happy flying everyone.

My goals for today,

Get outside and sort the chickens out.
Hoover and sweep.
Tidy draws in kitchen.
Organize the wii games etc.
Take dd to nursery.
30 Wii fit.
Make spag carb for tea.
clothes ot for tomorrow.

Can't believe its the weekend already.

missbennet, happy birthday wishes being sent.

Stainless, How are you managing without a washing machine? Are's is frozen aswell but lucky my mum is doing ours. Feel very guilty.

Happy flying everyone

feetheart · 08/01/2010 10:08

Right, will do a list on here for first time and see how well it motivates me!

Do more of tax return (have done 14% apparantly but gov site went stroppy and wouldn't let me do more)
15 mins declutter in DD's room (when Pop Master is on)
Tidy DS's room so there is room for him and friend to play in there later
Hotspot in kitchen
Mission - junk drawer I think
Find out if DD's dancing is on tonight

Now need to set DS up on computer as he wants to do 'big writing'

StainlessSteelCat · 08/01/2010 10:36

I think it's one of those weeks.

We had hot water - only briefly, becaue although we managed to thaw the pipe that was not allowing cold water into the boiler, it turns out it had burst ....

So now we have no water. Of any temperature. And I need a shower. And I'm going to be going to the dentist without brushing my teeth ...

Pluto · 08/01/2010 11:56

SSC Hope your dental visit isn't such a Drama as mine!

I'm back from the tooth extraction. It was gross. I am a toothless crone and under instructions from the dentist not to do any physical activity and put my feet up.

That means any vigorous flying plans are to be abandoned today and I'm going to snuggle up and watch things on Sky+

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 08/01/2010 12:29

i need to step away from the bun fight. i am starting to get cross by the ignorance of primary school teachers on the matter of science.

swanriver · 08/01/2010 12:30

o pluto, I've had that exact molar extracted a year ago, can't rmemeber exactly. Definitely rest for two days, it's worth it, as it helps healing.

Droitwich, it IS annoying when you mentally think it is going to be shut, and then school opens, and vice-versa.

House still v. messy, but had a nice morning with my still resident 9 yr old, bit of work, bit of pootle-ing.

Now lunch and a few timer challenges
put clothes away in four rooms
mop floor (2 weeks since I've done it

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 08/01/2010 12:37

opps wrong thread. sorry. And just to clarify it is some primary teachers (one in particular) and not in general or most. sorry if that comment upset anyone. Nothing personal.

PositiveAttitude · 08/01/2010 12:50

Good luck at the dentist SSC. And no water - oh dear. You can't do a lot of cleaning then. At least you have electircity I hope. TV and feet up after dentist, maybe?

Pluto- Sorry to hear about your extraction. Take it easy, as you have been told! - teeth, see!!!!

DWMummy - Great sense of acheivement to finish that cross stitch. I have had one on the go for over 18 months and it is driving me crazy. When I started I was all enthusiastic, but now it is such a chore I really can't be bothered. BUT i really want to finish it as it is a thank you present for a friend and she will have forgotten what I am saying thank you for by the time I finish it!!

Right I now feel totally inadequate and a fraud about these slow cooker recipes you are expecting. Basically I make it all up as I go along. Today I have got a Chilli going. I browned the mince - this is the only meat that I brown before putting it in, all others go in raw. Then I whizzed onions, tomatoes, garlic, tomatoe puree, stock - not too much as you need half as much fluid when slow cooking, chilli flakes, & worchester sauce/daddy sauce all in the blender for a bit. Chucked it all in the slow cooker with kidney beans. Leave it til you need it! Couldn't be easier.
My favourite is chicken curry. Basic chicken curry sauce made as you like it, but with not too much fluid, all chucked in with chicken and left til ready to eat. I add saltanas about 30 mins before eating and thicken with coconut if wanted/needed.
For me cooking is not an exact science. I don't really follow recipes, just chuck in, stir and hope for the best!
With so many of us coming and going I love it because if we are not all eating together it can be dished up as it is needed - although if you are last in the queue I often have moans about there not being enough left!

Anybody got any other ideas? I've never done anything sweet in it, has anyone else?

So far today I have:
Done chilli for slow cooker
Hoovered hallway
Cleaned Kitchen tops
Cooked breakfast for hungry cold family
Walked through snow to work, did 2 hours work, then trudged home again.
Sorted last nights washing pile.
DW -loaded, unloaded and loaded again!

Still to do:
Make oaties - as requested by DD2
Make egg custard tart - as requested by DH
Put more washing in - its needed!!
Sit down with feet up and read. - as requested by me!!!

Have fun everyone.

ln1981 · 08/01/2010 13:26

Happy birthday missbennett hope its been a good day so far!

been in town this morning doing little bits and pieces, so not done any cleaning apart from breakfast dishes and morning routine.

anyway for the rest of the day, i hope to-
do lunch dishes
15min declutter in kitchen
do todays mission
put away rest of last nights ironing
declutter in living room
shine sink

did my junk drawer a couple of days ago, and its amazing just how much junk you can actually fit in such a small drawer. must keep it clean now
