Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

So I failed yesterday!

I managed to keep my sink shined... and that was it. I didn't even do the laying the clothes out

Oh well, better luck today... off to do a bit.

commuter · 08/01/2010 14:16

Hope all having a good day. Still in holiday mode here, with dh working at home, dcs off school. DD has to be taken to a ballet rehearsal through the snow. Definitely a job for dh though I may go in the car too as moral support and to stock up at the shop. PostiveAttitude - thanks for the slow cooker ideas, very motivating! It's the thought of all of us being able to eat the same thing but at the times which suit us on those (many)evenings when we are all doing different things i.e. I make one dinner instead of 3 in my disorganised manner (with me having my cup of tea and a roll in a car park waiting for a dc to emerge from training or whatever). And people will just have to eat it whether they like it or not... Main job of day - clean sheets for all! for all of you struggling with pipes/hot water situation at the moment

missbennett · 08/01/2010 18:17

Thank you sep1712 and in1981 for birthday wishes. Is actually DD1's 17th birthday today but I think birthdays for offspring also significant for parents. It doesn't feel like 17 years.......!

Hope all dentist visits have gone well - and advice re sitting down heeded - I always feel completely traumatised after even a check up so I think it's excellent advice!

mrsdinky - I've gor a microfibre cloth so I'll give that a try as I don't think I'll get to the shops tonight!

DWMummy slowcooker chilli recipe sounds lovely - must try it - wonder if it would work with veggie mince but can't see why not!

This morning, ended up leaving for work half an hour later as giving a friend a lift so managed to clear the breakfast pots, swish and swipe the bathroom, empty the rubbish and recycling from there and generally leave the house feeling more in control. It's amazing what a difference even a few days makes!

Now deciding if to go out to celebrate birthday or get take away. Then will do the jobs.......will check in later - it's very motivating to see how others are doing and also reassuring that we're all in the same boat and there's lot of encouragment out there.

MiniMarmite · 08/01/2010 19:23

Hi Ladies

I've been hiding because I am too scared to tidy my kitchen cupboards and too lazy to do my ironing . I'm blaming PMT but that excuse can't last long I suppose!

but then I missed you all so I've come back to say hello!

I'm doing the babysteps though and house is not looking to bad (as long as I don't open any door or need anything flat to wear).

Lots of snow here so have been taking lots of pictures of DS in the snow, he looks so cute stomping around in his snow suit!

SCC yes, great birth thread (Stella) I couldn't tear myself away from it!

MiniMarmite · 08/01/2010 19:24

SC I mean, sorry.

StillCounting · 08/01/2010 19:43

Evenin' all ...can't believe it's Friday. Hope you had a good day.

Just put dd in bed and I'm turning in myself. Shattered again (anaemia). Dh travelling. Long day in office and lots of tramping about in snow back and forth to school and dd music lesson etc. Loads more snow to come tomorrow apparently and have to be up with lark to take dd to ballet at crack of sparrows and be back, ready for extra language lesson at 8.30 am.

Not much Flying today but downstairs is reasonably clean and tidy and sink is shining. Must do lots of laundry over w/e and .... tidy master bedroom and finish taking down decorations.

I've given up on hall floors too - snow keeps being tramped in and out.

Happy Birthday to your dd1 MissBennett - hope you have both had a lovely day!

Tomorrow is another day FlameSparrow and shiny sink is good!!

1981 I must tackle my two junk "baskets"' in the kitchen this weekend (catching up with baby-steps) and agree, an extraordinary amount of junk collects in them ... the upside is I usually find everything I've lost over the previous weeks....

Thanks for recipes PA

Take care after your traumas at the dentist today Pluto and SCC

Hope you reached yr goals for today Sep1712 you are on a roll!!

Hope you are not still stuck in a snowdrift somewhere MrsGok - should we send out a search party?

Hope you have another, much deserved, uninterrupted night's sleep tonight MummyD and thanks for baby-steps as ever ...will be catching up with them over w/e

"Respect" to Ellie's dh ...

Hello to Commuter Swan MrsDinky Feetheart WhereChaos (take it steady) MrsGrumpy Optimisitc MiniM tibni and everyone else

Has anyone seen WalktheD and/or HavingAG??

DD made me cackle tonight. She is full of excitement about a friend in her class, who apparently, "lives in a house with 1,000 beds in it that are silver, a pony that sleeps in her basement and a gold swimming pool with taps in it that serve pink milk-shakes whenever you want without paying"!!! She believes every single word of it, bless her !! ...

G'night all ...

StillCounting · 08/01/2010 19:48

x posts Mini!! Helloo! Glad you came back!! Am struggling and only just keeping up with baby steps too ...there's something very distracting about snow!!! We'll get there, small steps and all that ....

Yes, wonder if Stella knows she is famous!!

optimisticmumma · 08/01/2010 19:53

Evening all!

Why is it that snow makes me completely unable to fly??

I have had another silly day which improved when I managed to get out in the car thus alleviating severe cabin fever and meant I could also go to Tescos - again! The side affect of no school and snow in this household equals hungry hordes of teenagers and no food left!!

Pluto - sympathies on the tooth front! I also had that one removed about 2 years ago and an implant put in. The only thing I can say regarding the implant is that I'm glad I went ahead with it even though it cost a fortune and the paperwork was scary. The other thing is it took about a year all told to do so the cost was spread out!

Wishing it had been an implant elsewhere iykwim

WCRT - so gald you clarified your primary science teaching comment. I was just turning it over in my mind to see if it applied to me. Luckily, I can safely say, having been ofsteaded recently that it didn't!!Still had that initial 'guilty' feeling though!

PA - am getting inspired by your slow cooking....

Miss B - birthday greetings to your DD! Luckily you can put off the 'let's have a go in the car round the station car park'due to snow!

Hi to ellie, SC, MM, DWM and everyone else on the thread - you are getting too numerous to mention individually!

Bottle of white and some crisps on the side.

Pluto · 08/01/2010 20:03

That's helpful info on the implant front OM The dentist said she doesn't do it and will send me elsewhere. I'm going to wait until my next checkup in June and discuss it more with her then, when things have had time to settle down. I didn't know that the whole process took so long. Dentist thought it costs about £2000. Does that sound right to you? (I hope you don't mind me asking). Still, cheaper than a new car and it will certainly last me a lot longer.

Yes, implants elsewhere would be much more exciting and I bet DH would have no problems paying up then.

Small flying tasks achieved today and a very big sleep this afternoon. Still aches though.

MrsDinky · 08/01/2010 20:21

Evening all,

Hope everyone with aches pains and ailments is on the mend (including families).

Not much flying here today, a touch of the CBA again. Also cabin fever, have not been more than 50feet from the house for 3 days, DCs resolutely refuse to go out. Tomorrow, come what may I am going shopping.

Spent quite a lot of time playing, with a very successful craft session this afternoon, so not so bad. Spent quite a lot of time ringing the people who are supposed to be coming to DD's party to see wheterh to go ahead, at the moment, yes, so probably not much flying this weekend either, just babysteps, and keeping on top of the tidying.

I just know I am going to end up buying a slow cooker......

optimisticmumma · 08/01/2010 20:43

Mrs D - hope everyone gets to the party for your DDs sake - shame!

Pluto - I think it was nearer £3K but I did have to have liquid bone ( I know it sounds disgusting) as the bone had started to recede. Then the implant was put in and had to be left for a few months to see if the bone 'took'. Finally the crown was made and put on.. As you are in West kent and so am I you might like to know I had Dr Hattingh who I would thoroughly recommend as he is an expert in this area and only does implants. You could ask if your dentist knows of him if that helps!

Sorry for the thread hijack everyone!

optimisticmumma · 08/01/2010 20:45

Btw that is the correct spelling of Hattingh (South African!)

StainlessSteelCat · 08/01/2010 21:08

evening ladies

Plumber has just left, we have hot water for the first time in 2 days, and heating is back on! However, pipes leading to washing machine had multiple bursts, so are now capped off and even if the washing machine is defrosted I won't be able to use it ... probably won't be able to for several days anyway. Looks like I'll be at the laundrette come monday.

But I don't care! We have heating, hot water, 2 sleeping children (neither of whom have thrown up for at least 12 hours) and gin.

Flying will recommence tomorrow. After I have read all the threads I've missed over the last couple of days. Dont' want to miss out on anything

MiniMarmite- did I once meet you on a frightening weaning thread?

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 08/01/2010 22:15

Hi all,

Crawled back in (literatly) about 11.00. Stripped everyone off and jumped in the shower to warm up. Wrapped them in dressing gowns. Had lunch, got everyone dressed again and off out to get back to school. By the time I got back home it was time to cook dinner. So no flying today as I am asolutley knackered.

Will pick up tomorrow. Need to sleep at the moment.

droitwichmummy · 08/01/2010 22:48

Hello everyone! Late posting again tonight but good excuse - been on phone to DFriend who's father passed away last night.

Didn't get home from work until after 7 either as there were major train problems (no trains out of Birmingham New Street for ages). Done 2x5 min room rescues though and the living room and kitchen are now tidy even if not clean. Going to do round up and eat something then off to bed. Swimming for DS in the morning - WHY did I sign him up for the 9am class?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY missbennett's DD!

Welcome back Mullered cat thank goodness for plumbers! Enjoy a hot bath
OM know what you mean about the snow. I was home for 2 days and feel like I did NOTHING (apart from cross stitch of course)
MrsD babysteps are fine when there is a party to organise. Caught myself looking for slow cookers in the sales...
Pluto get plenty of rest - dental work really takes it out of you. I had braces for a 18 months about 4 years ago - really worth while despite the cost
SC what time is the ballet lesson?! I thought 9am for swimming was bad enough and I don't have to fiddle with hair or tights for that!
MM I think we can count watching stellamels thread as flying under the circumstances
missb I'm sure the chilli will work with veggie mince although it wasn't me who posted it (thank you to PA!) commuter I lurve clean sheets - due to do mine tomorrow
sparrow you did not fail yesterday - you did shine your sink so something is happening. Hope you had a better day today
in1981 my junk drawer front has been hanging off for over a year now waiting for DH to fix it but will probably give up and have a bash myself
PA you are truly a domestic goddess with all that cooking. Can we all come to tea?
swan you can't beat a bit of pootling You've done loads today - chopping wood counts at least double!
chaos I daren't ask what that was about! Do you feel better now? Well done for getting that essay done
feetheart how did posting a list work for you? I have a white board in the kitchen that I often use for posting my list so I keep seeing what I should be doing
sep the great thing about getting organised is that you might get some 'fun' time for yourself.
MrsGok have a good night's sleep
ellie fab DH! Hope the laptop gets mended soon - I get one soon as I start my secondment next week (vvvvvvvvvv excited!!!!)
Mmmango whyme2 and BYR hope you are all ok

Off to bed - thanks for wine and crisps OM.

Have just realised this thread is really educational in lots of ways - over the last couple of days we have covered dental issues, some education science thing that went completely over my head, and slow cooking as well as housework!

See you tomorrow

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 08/01/2010 22:57

OM - it wasnt you, promise and you couldnt have done anything wrong as it wasnt you i was caught up with in a very heated debated. I meant to post the comment on the thread that puts my perspectives in line. I did a very sensbile thing and stepped away from the arguement and someone clarified for me. So it has been mostly resolved.I didnt mean to cause offence - just needed kicking into touch, and have a home on here where they do that so i know i can rant without offending them and they will tell me to get a grip. SO sorry.

I have done some flying. Not much as ill but some:
move textbooks, scanner, and paper to office
Bagged up ds' old baby clothes to go to charity shop
Empty and move book case.
Chuck stuff collected on the bed onto the floor.
get emergency prescription for inhaler then collect.

I hope everyone is ok and that babystep progress is made.

droitwichmummy · 08/01/2010 23:13

chaos - emergency prescription for inhaler? Hope you are/everyone is ok[concerned emoticon]

You've had a fraught couple of days. Have abreak and take it easy over the weekend

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 08/01/2010 23:18

yep i'm ok but have a virusy thing in my sinsus and it and the cold is affecting my asthma. Am lucky that normally dont need to take anything but it means when i do i can never find the damm thing. Last time i had one was a year ago so it will probably be out of date when i find it. Hopefully when i have made my peace with the fat fairy and removed some of the chaose i will always be able to find it when i need it. This is why i need to make friends with the fatone and her principles

EightiesChick · 09/01/2010 00:05

chaos Go to your usual pharmacy and ask them to give you one if you really need it right away and can't get a prescription over the weekend. They will do this in an emergency.

droitwichmummy · 09/01/2010 07:12

Hi eightieschick!

Good morning everyone - its Saturday so that means its Family Fun Day. Get out in that snow!

Next weeks zone is the bathroom and the holiday leftovers

The rest of the Holiday clean-up missions have appeared if you are struggling to get the decs put away etc

Todays babystep is - hey I did 2 of these yesterday - decluttering and the room rescue. Really useful one today

There are 2 new Riley's challenges for the DC to do.

My list for the weekend is
Home Blessing
DS swimming
Do this weeks missions that didn't get done
Full clean of kitchen sink
Tidy dining room/computer area
washing
ironing
bed on time

Have a great day!

droitwichmummy · 09/01/2010 07:37

Need to add cleaning the fish tank to my list - ought to be weekly job!

feetheart · 09/01/2010 08:24

droitwichmummy - list worked well. Usually have one in notebook (sort of control journal idea from before) but always been about putting it on here. However telling you all I was going to finish kitchen cupboard doors made me do it when I doubt I would have done otherwise. Made me think. Certainly need some more motivation to keep me on track this time!

Tax return - not much further
15 mins declutter/tidy in DD's room (when Pop Master is on) - took 45 mins in the end but it was ALL the craft stuff on top of her wardrobe
Tidy DS's room - cleared it enough though two 4 yr olds can mess up all the good work in about 2 mins flat
Hotspot in kitchen - yes
Mission - junk drawer - yes
Find out if DD's dancing is on tonight - it was and DH took her as ice too bad on our road for me to face it

Also did:
1 load washing done and hung up
S & S
2 return journeys to school with children on sledge, trip to Post Office and shopping for elderly neighbour
Menu plan for next week and shopping list - being doing this for about 3 years and couldn't cope without it now
Did babystep
Found Polar bear cam and may never do anything else again, is v addictive

Today we are thinking about going into London to the Science Museum. Been wanting to take DC for a while and hope it will be quiet today! Only 30 mins on train and the worst bit will be the first 1/2 mile getting out of our road!

I have had a go at a few sweet slow-cooker recipes, rice pudding goes down VERY well here:
1.2l (2pts) milk
1 tin evaporated milk
150g sugar
150g pudding rice
grating of nutmeg

Put it all in, stir occasionally and cook until done - takes about 6 hours in mine but took longer in my Mum's.

Have a good w/e everyone

StainlessSteelCat · 09/01/2010 08:36

Right ,had quick skim read through - lots been happening! Many thanks to DWM for the updates.

so, back to normal today:
babysteps: start a mornign routine (playing catch up here!)
put away last couple of stray decorations
washing up mountain
write shopping list

see y'all later

missbennett · 09/01/2010 09:08

Morning! It's the weekend!
Yesterday we went out to eat which was lovely, then came home and I was 'allowed' a go on Music Wii - very good fun - conducting in the Albert Hall!

But before we went I did clean the kitchen floor and hang the wet washing up on airer and put tumble driable stuff into drier!
So have started the weekend with a clean kitchen, and now a clean bathroom too, as done a swish and swipe this morning!

Glad it's the bathroom next week - I seem to be doing quite well when I start small!

So for today then:
-go to Weightwatchers
-meal plan
-food shop
-weekly home blessing or something like that
-insist decorations go to loft. Is a DH job and if I do it it will be wrong! So will have to 'encourage' today!
-tackle a hot spot/15 minutes decluttering

Hope everybody has a good Saturday!
