Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Blackyellowred - dont old your breathe about it ours wasnt collected today.

Flame - look after yourself. sleep deprivation is a destructive force. It will get better. hang in there

Essay is progressing (taking a break from destroying brain cells). School should be back tomorrow for ds cant wait he is driving me mad! Using the fly lady principles with the essay when i have been struggling. I put the timer on and see what i can get done in that time. it helps remotive. The fat one has an interesting way of wriggling into all areas of life. Might have to put up fairy blockers for activities to be enjoyed at lesuire - or does she have strategies for intimate moments too?

DWMummy you do an amazing job of keeping us on track and up to date with who is who and up to what. thankyou very much you hard work is greatly appreciated. (Leaves or bottle of red for DWM to enjoy whilst doing her round up later)

MrsDinky · 06/01/2010 18:09

Still snowing here, it carried on all day, without actually getting any deeper (about 10 inches overnight) but starting to settle again now it's got dark. Hopefully it will stop soon.

So sorry to hear of all the bumped heads, sleep deprivation etc, hope everything improves soon, and don't worry about the flying, it will wait.

Suffering from that thing where you can't move / tidy anything because everywhere is full. So you think of the ideal place for item x, but it can't go till you find a new place for item y, which would really go best in DDs bedroom, but the only spare bit of space has in it a toybox which was relocated from downstairs to make room for the Christmas tree, which can't be got rid of very easily in the snow. I suppose we could dump it in the garden, but that means trailing needles through the entire ground floor, I wanted to pop it straight out the front door into the car boot for the tip, car is under a snowdrift. Oh well.

Hot chocolate here for anyone who wants it by the way. Might pop in again later, need to check in regularly with so many people to stand any chance of keeping up. It's very encouraging that so many people want to join in!

sep1712 · 06/01/2010 18:43

Hope everyone has had a great day playing in the snow, we have.

Can't believe how well this works!

House looks fab and everything is organized for tomorrow already!

Dressed early.

Had a mad 10min dash tidy.

Made soup and bread for the return of our sledging.

Clean sink all day.

Cleared hot spot!

30 mins on wii fit.

A whole family 15mins dash of tidying. (this works only with the reward of yummy creamy hot choc as a reward).

The three other schools in our small town were closed but our's was open, i'm such a bad mother because i kept mine off to go sledgin and havin fun in the snow, am i a really bad mother??

Going to have a read through what everyone else has been up to now.

BlackYellowRed · 06/01/2010 18:59

well done sept1712 sounds like a very good day! I fancy soup and bread now!

sep1712 · 06/01/2010 19:07

Thanks byr, i'd send u some but all these kids that came over to play ate it all!! sorry.

Flame, hope life gets easier.....remember small steps. I'm impressed you managed to do the dec's! i didn't, dh did.

Everyone's so warm and welcoming, thank you.

DWM(mummy), you do a great job of rounding everyone up. Well done.

droitwichmummy · 06/01/2010 19:40

Hello everyone.

Very little flying here but I have done the ironing and the DW has been on. Also been through the toy chest and put it all back in some sort of order.

Went out in the snow earlier. DS built a snowman and I made a snow cat on top of the hedge. Snowman looks more like a snow owl though Came back in for hot chocolate and DS had ice cream... He's having more now. DH gone to work and all is peaceful.

DS has made another lego farm today - photo on profile. He' not on it today but you will be relieved to know that he has been fully dressed all day today!

Thanks for the wine chaos I've got it open to breathe before I quaff it whilst doing the round-up later

ln1981 · 06/01/2010 20:47

Hi everyone. sounds like some of you have had a wonderful time outside!

our snow has gone that horrid brown gritty colour. our council got some 'emergency' grit yesterday and kinda went a bit OTT! Its not realy melting the ice in our estate but its getting slightly less hellish to get out!!

List update
washing done and on airer done.
breakfast dishes done and put away done
put away ironing done
15min declutter done
todays mission which i wish had known before i went to the shops!! oh well... done
sort kids stuff out for school and (hopefully) nursery. done (nursery stuff is in car in the vain hope that dd gets to go back)
shine sink. done

have also been super organised and have put the washing in the machine ready to switch on in the morning! I saw someone post yesterday about doing it (apologies as I cant remember who it was but they are a genius !)

feetheart · 06/01/2010 21:08

School was closed - DD delighted and spent afternoon playing at friend's house. DS spent morning at pre-school drinking hot choc and eating toast though he was the only one who refused to go out and play in the snow (as predicted )

Today managed to:
1 x load washing
15 mins in our bedroom (being a bit ramdom about decluttering areas as it all needs doing!)
Hoovered living room
Put decs upstairs (will take a day or two more before they make it into loft!)
Many trips out lugging 1 or 2 children on sledge
DS's pre-school booster done and he was BRILLIANT, didn't even say 'ouch'
Sink still shiny
Will do hotspot just before bed

BlackYellowRed · 06/01/2010 21:39

Caught up with my little slacking. Kitchen tidy. Not sure whether the kids are at school tomorrow, but will prepare anyway. That lovely start the other day has spurred me on.

droitwichmummy love the idea of a snow cat! must do that with the children tomorrow!

in1981 LOL at the OTT council. I usually stick the washing machine and dishwasher on as I lock up at night. By the morning I can empty both and not wait around for them to be done. I think the kids are used to the bit of whirring and spinning noises coming from downstairs at night.

feetheart our box of decs is still sitting there on the landing under the loft hatch. Must remind DH.

droitwichmummy · 06/01/2010 22:21

Hi everyone just starting the wine

BYR I like doing snow cats as they are easier than snowmen. DS found some leaves for its ears!
feetheart well done to DS. I put the decs into loft myself as I knew if I left it to DH they would still be on the landing at Easter
in1981 getting on top of the laundry helps so much. I do a load most days and try to get the ironing done as soon as it is dry
sep if you can get stuff resy the night before you really can whizz out in the morning - shame I'm often too tired to do it!
MrsD could you just throw the tree out of the front door and leave it there or is there not enough space then to get people out of the door?
chaos lol at doing the essay in 15 minute bursts but if it works then go for it
OM impressed by DD using the day properly
MrsGok what a lovely way to spend some time - cuddling sleeping DC3
swan well done on getting those decs packed away
sparrow hope you are in bed getting some well deserved sleep
SC how do Belgian working mums cope with DCs not having school every Wednesday afternoon?! Good effort at being organised though - why do DCs have to undo our hard work?
tibni PLEASE will you and DH come and do my spare room/office? It is better than it was but still loads to do in there
Mmmango not sure if you are of our snow or that you are well away from it
gruffalo see the link at the bottom for the fitness stuff. If I put it here it will get lost!
Bobby hope you had a better day today. Buggies are not really designed for snow are they?
whyme sounds like you are doing really well. Post whenever you like/cba
clemette poor you. Its awful leaving them screaming isn't it? I'm sure she will settle in soon and be running in the door
missb I am so glad this is working for you and you can already see the results. Keep going and watch that you don't burn out
Pluto how is the back to work planning? Is it next week or the following one that you start?
PA I'm sitting here with a plate waiting to test DS's cooking!
DTG fab job at getting everything ready the night before - something I aspire to

Couple of links for you to look at or not as you prefer
this one is the start of something the flylady seems to have done last May. It is basically a plan to get you in the habit of walking every day and thereby to get a bit fitter
and did someone mention slow cookers?

Going to finish my bottle of wine in bed. Looks like school will be closed again tomorrow

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 06/01/2010 22:28

Sorry just needed to come here and rant. My 3 boys and DH spent hours outside today building a wonderful huge snowman, dressing him in a scarf, hat etc. and gave him arms, eyes, nose etc. They were so pleased and chuffed with it and some ignorant, stupid, fucker has completly destroyed it and thrown all the stuff over a nearby fence. It is completly flattened to the ground. I am so angry as my boys will be so upset in the morning. Why do people not think that children put so much love into these things [angty]

missbennett · 06/01/2010 22:58

Oh that's horrid about the snow man. Some people really are totally beyond the pale.

It sounds as though most people have had a fun day with the snow. I've been to work.

When I got home, DH cooked tea and I sat and looked at potential university courses with DD1, watched a bit of TV, had tea and had a bath. I had been given some lovely bath stuff for Christmas so decided to try. It contained 'real' petals so although it smelt nice, it was a bit like having a bath in pot pourri and it all stuck to the bath and me. Bit odd really!

Since then I have washed up, tidied round the microwave - well weeding might be a better word - put some washing on and hung it on the airer once washed. And the sink is clear and clean! So not bad - the whole kitchen looks so much more orderly and I haven't spent ages on it - just quick blasts of time. however, please don't look in the cupboards!!

So a nice, gentle and reasonably productive evening. Off to bed now. Night night all!

MrsDinky · 06/01/2010 23:16

Oh MrsG that is sad, exactly the same happened to us before Christmas, DH and DD built one on the green in front of our house, went inside for tea, half an hour later, it had been pushed over. Luckily it was hidden behind a tree as regards seeing it from the front window, so ignored it, but was prepared with a story of "oh it must have fallen over". DD is only 3 anyway and didn't really care, but I was SO CROSS.

DWM - our cars are both on the small converted front garden / drive, wouldn't be able to get past them if we stuck the tree out there (partly because DH built another huge snowman in the bit right in front of lounge window). So I am stuck with a moulting Christmas tree unless I drag it thru the back. Brilliant round up again tonight, thank you.

Have managed kitchen cupboard wiping and fridge clear out today. Fridge was not too bad (except two mouldy blueberries perched on the drain hole at the back), cupboards were a bit yuck, esp. near the cooker and dishwasher. Even in a small kitchen like mine there are so many of them, it took a while. They are that pale maple colour that doesn't show the dirt (too much), so do get neglected. I was going to go to bed at 10.30, whatever happened? Night all.

droitwichmummy · 07/01/2010 06:31

Good morning

Waiting to see if school open today. The High School is closed but there is no word about the first and middle schools yet

Today's babystep is a vital one for everyone - especially if you are on a tight deadline for getting out of the house in the mornings.

Into the kitchen. You've done the cobwebs, cleaned the fridge, wiped down the cupboards and your sink is shiny. Today we are wiping down the worktops.

Have a great day

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 07/01/2010 07:09

Morning. Coofee's up.

DWM-loved that link to the moving mission. Its the one bit of fly i will be doing before the weekend. Too tired to panic but really should be.

Mrs Gok: its seems to be mostly the same. We had it head. Headless reindeer is not a pretty sight. The really have no idea of the damage that they do. hope the dc(s) are to upset

Right 5mins mn had off to work for an hour.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 07/01/2010 07:10

oh poo - have to start previewing my posts. I mean had it here and arent too upset.

Obviously

PositiveAttitude · 07/01/2010 07:23

Morning all,

I was too tired to log on last night. Too much tobogganning!!!
This morning I ache SSOOOOOOOO much!!!!

No school again today for my lot we found out last night, so I am hoping they will all lie in.

Yesterdays list went ok, but the hoover got sidelined (as always ).

Today I must walk into town for essentials.
Hoover !!!!!!!!
About 4 loads of washing
Eat all the lovely chocolate & cola cake made yesterday! - Help yourselves, plenty left, very nice with hot chocolate sauce. hmmmmm.

Right, need to do Wii fit now and will try to be less elephant-like to keep everyone asleep!

Have fun everyone.

droitwichmummy · 07/01/2010 07:53

School is shut and I am determined to be more productive today.
DS wants to paint but I've said too early yet! I was hoping he would lie in like he did yesterday so I could go back to bed but no luck there. He has also said he is going to leave his lego farm out as I like it so much - think I need to tone down my 'enthusiasm' for his projects

So today I will
finish my cross stitch - huge and been on frame in living room for as long as I can remember. Only got some outlining to do and then its done
take frame down and put away
clear dining table (hot spot)
washing
ironing if any washing dry
clear up after painting/playdough (if he does any)
kitchen missions
s&s
shine sink
put washing away
empty dw
do some revision if DNeice appears to entertain DS
anything else that comes to mind!

See you later

whyme2 · 07/01/2010 08:08

Morning all.
We are all at home today again - had lots of fun outside yesterday. Today dh has a job interview and has gone in the car. Will keep myself busy this morning til he comes back (worried/nervous emoticon).
Must get dressed first though.

I need to clear kitchen and mop floor,
hoover downstairs
Washing and drying and then put away.

I'm sure there is more . . .

whyme2 · 07/01/2010 08:11

Some people are so mean mrsG
As we were coming home from the park yesterday I caught three teenage girls stealing my DD's pretend buggy and favourite dolls from the garden. How mean is that.
When I asked for them back one of them was trying to stuff a doll up her jumper. I was gobsmacked. Fortunately the doll and homemade outfit is very unique.

MrsDinky · 07/01/2010 08:24

Morning all, lemsip here if anyone else is feeling grotty this morning.

No school for us today, DH says he is going to work but doesn't seem to be in a rush to go, I'd rather he didn't having just watched a lorry nearly jacknife outside the house.

Today I need to do

2 lots of washing
Hoover
Tidy kids bedrooms
Ironing
Clean worktops (luckily I decluttered them a bit last week).
Play with DCs, who resolutely refuse to go out in the snow. Our Sky box is playing up and we've been watching a Tweenies video over and over again this week

I had a really big declutter / rearrange contents of cupboards etc in my kitchen in October, it has made such a difference. Everything has a home, stuff doesn't fall out when you open the doors, the worktops are less cluttered. Going to go now, DCs are yelling for toast.

missbennett · 07/01/2010 08:29

Morning! I think there's something about snow that makes people giddy and inclined to do stupid things. Not that that's a reason for taking toys of course - and I don't think my teenage girls would do such a thing so you do begin to wonder? Could go into grupmy old woman rant but will save it for now!

Well, less of a good start for me - got up thinking would have load of dry clothes but came down to realise I might have put them into the dryer but didn't actually turn it on. So still wet! Never mind, on now and I can do another load later.

I love the choosing your clothes the night before baby step - is the one thing I have coinsistently maintained from previous flirtations with flying as it really does make a difference. So I'm OK with that - and the mission sounds very do-able.

Shortish list for me today:
-washing
-mission
-birthday card for DD1 (got present) and check for present from DD2 which I will doubtless have to do today! Think Christmas money has run out!
-sort myself out with cloth in bathroom so can swish and swipe more easily.
(i.e.actually do it rather than thinking if I had a cloth up here I could do it.....)
-Chrismas decorations back to loft - this is for DH and DDs to achieve today but no doubt reminders will be needed!|

No school today so no packed lunches. All still in bed but I'm off to see what the roads are like......

Hope everybody has a good day today.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 07/01/2010 08:54

Morning ladies.

My lot didn't get up till nearly 8.30, so a lovely lie in They and DH are not in school today. Dreading them finding out about their snowman so I am going to keep them in for as long as possible. Thank you for your sympathies ladies.

Just sitting down to brekkie and Ceebeebies.

Will sort of do mission today. You have to see your work surface to do the mission which I can't So I will combine the 15 minute flyspots with todays mission. The centre worksurface between the kitchen and dining room is under about a foot of detritus over 3/4 's of it. There is a clear spot around the glass worktop saver

SparrowFflamau · 07/01/2010 09:17

some people are tossers mrsg

sorry for no caps - holding dd2.

thank you for the lovely messages i got a bit more sleep last night and feel much more human today - helped by no school run today. only a dusting of fresh snow, but i think the playground is lethal frozen sludge.

not dressed yet, gonna go do that in a min after looking at the steps etc, then hopefully go play with mum and dc later

dd2 is looking better today

SparrowFflamau · 07/01/2010 09:18

ooh i did that on Monday just one buried counter to do
