Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

i have magic powers any more requests?

optimisticmumma · 04/01/2010 19:20

Still haven't caught up properly but have got to page 5 and sneaked a peak at page 11!
Missbennett we have 17 ear oldsin common so can hold hands!! My DS was 17 in September and we didn't get a car he could drive til the holidays. i went out with him for the first time after Christmas ( he had had a few lessons). I thought I was remarkably calm. he said I put on a patronising teacher voice!! Oh well!
Ellipac - glad you missed me. After a day with Y3/4 i am defo in need of a large snifter. Got to pick DH up from station though and I am supposed to be on the wagon....

missbennett · 04/01/2010 19:34

Om you are very brave - I'm dreading anticipating taking her out but she has to have some lessons first and then we decide whether we put her on my car (which might be very very expensive) or buy 'runaround' (which might be less expensive?). Glad there's someone else to share the trauma!

I tidied up my cookery books, got rid of lots of tatty papers I don't want, weeded out some books we don't want any more and replaced everything nicely. So now I smile when I look at a small oasis of organisation in my generally chaotic kitchen! Even managed to persuade DH to get rid of a couple of things and he is congenitally incapable of throwing anything away!

Cooked tea and have got all the pots washed, dried and put away and the sink wiped round. Is my version of shiney sink!

Going to have a quick browse on here then off to the pub. For a planning meeting for Guides. Obviously not for any social element at all!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 04/01/2010 19:55

sep1712 - did i read that right? ds6. is that your 6th son? you must either be mad (driven so by the noise of so many) or really like kids. else it should have said ds 6yo which is far less scarey to read.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 04/01/2010 20:06

Right i am off to bed. Am tired and drained and in school tomo with lots of essay and paperwork to do. Will get up early as this is when i seem to get stuff done at the mo. Have a good evening. Night.

Welcome to Vonnyh

Waves to Droitwich Mini Ellie Flamesparrow WhereChaos Sept1712 MissBennett MMango MrsGok Swan BlackYelloWred MrsGrumpy Commuter 1981 MrsDinky Pluto and all the people I am bound to have missed ....

Sorry - cannot keep up with this thread but well done to everyone for today's efforts. Onwards and upwards (as the actress said to the bishop). Must go and shine my sink.

G'night all ... see you in the morning

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 04/01/2010 20:36

SSC hope your little one has a better night to might.

Om and MissBennett all the best with the driving lessons and hope there isn't too many frayed tempers. I have 10 years before I have to think about lessons for DC

Well DC are in bed, uniform for DC1 is out and ready. DC2's nursery stuff is in the machine. Washing up done (haven't put it away yet, but getting it done is a breakthrough ). Having a sit down at the moment as I am knackered but if I can I want to make DC's sandwiches for tomorrow, put the rubbish out and put the breakfast stuff out.

optimisticmumma · 04/01/2010 20:40

Right - I have now read the entire thread! Phew! I know what you meant Swan when you said you needed to hold on to your hat! Hopefully everyone will slow up as the month progresses!
I have been doing this since September and i have to say that although I haven't done any flying as such yet in 2010 the house looks surprisingly tidy! That's because once you are in the routines of cleaning zones etc they never really get as messy again iyswim.
I can't say I'll be doing much flying tomorrow either as I'm teaching and that's enough for one day! Wednesday though....
I am really of all you people who have taken down Christmas decs. Much as I love it, I really wanted to take everything down yesterday but my DH decided he wanted to stick to TwelfthNight.... My hands are itching...
See you all in the morning....xx

optimisticmumma · 04/01/2010 20:42

x posted with mrs Gok - am hoping DH does the lion's share re the driving practice! Mind you I have DD (14)and Ds2 (13) to come - eek!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 04/01/2010 20:48

You'll be ready for them when they come along though, by the time get to DC3 you'll both be pro's at it.

I have similar age gaps with my three so will be the same as you, though saying that I don't drive at the moment so it definatly will be DH who will be doing the lessons

feetheart · 04/01/2010 20:48

My God you lot can talk (and make very scary lists!!)

I will sum up the 1st four days thus:

Jan 1st - shined sink and recovered from HUGE meal and v late night

Jan 2nd - ignored lace-up shoes, de-cluttered our bedroom for 15 mins, went to panto, sink still shiny

Jan 3rd - moved lots of stuff back to where it belongs ie dumped it on DC's bedroom floors and shut the doors! Declutttered living room for 15 mins. Ironed a bit. Sink shiny.

Jan 4th - ignored post-it idea (DH will think I'm mad, DD will read them and think we are going camping- what is 'Big Tent, that's new since last time, DS will scatter them all round the house and the kittens will eat them), de-cluttered main kitchen work area, swept kitchen floor, hoovered living room.
Need to do more ironing now.

MrsDinky · 04/01/2010 21:02

Evening all, it's so cold.....

Managed quite well today

Find lemsips - done
Washing on - done, dried and put away
Dishwasher on - done, and filled up with salt
Menu planning - sort of, masses in the freezer this week
Sainsburys - done
Town for various random items - done
Hoover front room - done
Top of fridge - yuck I expect - done, very yuck!

Please Mrs Flylady don't say tops of kitchen cupboards tomorrow.

Also managed to choose a carrier bag of books for the charity shop, and found a space for about 20 more in another room, bookcase on landing looking decidedly less cluttered now. Also did a 15 min declutter of cupboard under the stairs. Off to do packed lunches and washing up now. My hands are freezing, washing up might be nice! You won't often hear me say that.

I also refuse to stick post it notes around the house - I don't want everyone who visits to think that giving up work has made me completely lose my marbles, also (ha ha) it would make the place look untidy.

MrsDinky · 04/01/2010 21:11

MrsD apologises if she has offended anyone who has got post-it notes all over their house, and will go and get her coat.....

sep1712 · 04/01/2010 22:00

wtcr, i only have 3dc (thank goodness!!) one of which is 6, not very good at short hand hehe.

I'm not doing very well though,

No clean sink,
no lunches done,
boys uniform done but........
IVE LOST DD BRAND NEW UNIFORM!!!!
Just how do you lose a whole lot of uniform??
This is how bad my house is. Luckly dd doesnt need to be there till 1 so i should be able to find it some where.
If i hadnt have been so organized and brought it all before christmas it would still be hanging around and i wouldn't have put it somewhere safe!

My Newly painted nails look nice though!

Pluto · 04/01/2010 22:08

Ok, I have now recovered from the morning-scramble-to-school-to-discover-it's-still-the-hols-charade and I'm all set for the real event tomorrow (by-passing the screaming like a banshee at DS1 as we leave the house which can stay firmly in the dress rehearsal experience).

Done

sink
clothes out
living room tidy
breakfast laid
keys, handbag and to-do list for work sorted (I'm going in tomorrow to pick up timetable and resources. Bleugh)

to do
pack DS1 CM bag - this has to wait until the morning but takes 20 seconds so no worries
empty d/w
empty w/m and hang clothes on airer while watching rest of news on tv in loft room.

droitwichmum · 04/01/2010 22:21

Hello everyone! Thanks for the wine SC. Survived 1st day back at work DS back to school tomorrow - yay!

Welcome vonnyh do come and join us, just jump in where we are and you will be fine.

Now what have you all been up to while my back has been turned
MrsD if you are going anywhere you will need hat and gloves as well as your coat stay in the warm and have some chocolate
feetheart glad you are staying with us. Like your decluttering on 3rd!
MrsGok impressed at being ready for tomorrow already
OM you read the WHOLE thread? Sit down and grab a glass to recover! (Welcome back)
SC hope you are soaking your feet in vinegar. I couldn't get DS to bed either although he did pass out pretty quickly once there
chaos sleep well. See you early in the morning
missb you have mastered the concept of taking it a small step at a time Just do a bit each day and you will get there in the end
sep1712 2 child free hours? Make sure you don't fly for all of the time. The fat fairy suggests instructs us to have 15 mins break in every hour so make the most of it (you could do the pamper mission - get a good book)
MM you are so right about doing something while waiting for things to happen. I did the mission tonight while waiting for my dinner to 'ding' in the microwave (left over cottage pie - yum)
ellie enjoy your evening off - cheers!
swan hold on to that hat! I'm amazed that everyone's resolutions are holding.
Mmmango go for that morning blitz girl! (and enjoy your lunch with clear conscience whether you got it all done or not - you deserve it)
Pluto your personal mission for tomorrow - look at your planner At least DS got some exercise!
Flame have you decided who you are yet? I was getting a bit confused (not difficult) How is the ironing mountain? Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight
BYR preparation is key to my getting out of the house each morning. I have a 'launch pad' where everything goes ready to leave
in1981 so glad you have succumbed to the sink shining!
commuter have you survived the top of your fridge?
cat poor you! Hope you are fragrant now
gruffalo welcome back. Have you taken that tree down

Lots of waving to anyone I have missed

Today I
sucessfully got to work on time
paid bills on line
sorted out train tickets and hotel for London next week (ellie could you do the links for me next Thursday please? I'll remind you the day before)
Some quality time with DS (my excuse for not doing anything until he went to bed)
mission

I need to
shine sink
s&s

Good night all!

Good morning everyone!

The flylady has posted some more holiday clean-up missions so here is the link

The babystep today is a reading one - you might want to try what she suggests, but then again you might not

The mission is wiping down you cupboards

Have a great day!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 05/01/2010 07:20

Morning ladies.

Well I nearly had a full nights sleep, I have health problems that mean I am awake a few times a night, anyway I nearly had a full nights last night BUT my DC2 decided to get up at 4am and play in his nice new bedroom [roll eyes] Needless to say this morning he his hanginng and refuses to eat his breakfast and is playing up.

It was great coming down to a just being able to pop things in the lunch box and pour the cereal out, no wiping down the table and clearing it of general crap. The only thing I forgot was the drinks.

Today I will do the mission and finish the boys room. Clean the fridge. Washing up and washing.

Back later.

mrsgrumpygruffalo · 05/01/2010 08:38

Morning all,

Waves at everyone and offers round some Porridge, freshly made and have banana or raisons to go with it too

MM your post about doing something while waiting for the kettle inspired me into porridge making! I really like a bowl of porridge on a cold morning but I don't have a microwave and it always seems to take so long to make the 'old fashioned way' well I have discovered I can shine my sink, wipe down the worktops and put in a load of washing while my porridge cooks so big thank you for that tip.

pluto & missbennet I can join you in getting the day wrong for going back to school only I did it the other way round, last Easter hols I thought they had a training day and only realised they didn't when other children started walking past my front window!!

DM Christmas tree is down and packed away, provided half an hour of entertainment for the kids as I struggled to get it back into the box. We usually have a real tree but decided to get a fake one this time as the real pine needles seem to hang around till summer even when you're sure they are all swept up.

Have only had time to skim the thread will try and catch up later, great to see so many others on here, just need to get my head around all the new names and work out who is who after changing their Christmas names.

Must go and get ds2 ready for school, ds1 has gone to breakfast club so less squabbling than usual this morning. Will pop back later with my to do list.

hope everyone has a good day
