Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

hello all!

Better find my duster!

CankyMunt · 04/01/2010 12:10

I really should change my name back...

Mmmango · 04/01/2010 12:19

Red cabbage - brilliant!
Still counting, thanks for the pep talk - the 15 mins thing is really helpful with motivation, isn't it?

Well I learned a valuable lesson today: referring to your baby as 'angelic' in the morning ensures a difficult baby al afternoon. Plus I realised that I have to plan a trip to the doctors at the end of the week (is mammoth trip, will probably fly even though we can't afford it) so that scuppered the afternoon.

Still, got back on track in the evening and did 30 mins sorting dd's clothes into hand-me-downs and making space for her clean clothes, and 15 minutes decluttering in the kitchen. Which is great, except now I can see the dirt underneath the crap I've thrown out. Tomorrow, tomorrow.

Mmmango · 04/01/2010 12:23

I quite like your name, canky!

BlackYellowRed · 04/01/2010 12:30

Done so far:

Ordered some stuff from Amazon & John Lewis and did my Sainsburys order. I managed to stick under £50. Go me!

Kids are back at school tomorrow, so today I'll make sure all uniforms etc are clean and ready. Nothing adds to the morning panic more than "Mama, I have no socks!". I have been known to handwash some and dry them before the school run

Flamesparrow · 04/01/2010 12:36

It didn't feel like "me" though - changed because MitchyInge complained no-one wanted a similar name to hers

Flamesparrow · 04/01/2010 12:39

Good point - I need to iron this evening

vonnyh · 04/01/2010 12:47

Hi everyone! Is it too late for me to join you all? I've skimmed the thread and it sound like just what I need to stop myself from drowning!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 04/01/2010 13:35

Vonnyh, hi and welcome. I am sure the others will agree with me that you can pick up on this quite easily.

Well I'm back from town and the DC1&3 are sitting having lunch. Granddad has just phoned and asked whether I would like him to pick DC2 up from nursery. Obviously I said yes! It saves me the 2 hours or so it takes to walk up there and back and there is no excuse to not be getting on with my flying lol!

Right off to empty the washing machine and hang up the washing, fold up the stuff already out and put the next lot in. See you later ladies.

Pluto · 04/01/2010 13:47

Well, I was really over-prepared last night! I was so psyched up getting DS1 to school this morning that we didn't even notice the distinct lack of other children making their way there until we were at the school gates...and discovered it's an INSET day. I am such a hopeless mother. My family organiser - calendar thing has already failed me and we are only 4 days into the new year. Imagine if I was going back to work today. God only knows what I would have done with DS1 then.

However, I have managed to:

hang washing
go to shops
cleared away most of the Christmas decs
hoover living room

to do
continue to bathe in the snot stream flowing from DS2's nose. Poor little mite, he has a stinking cold but is fast asleep now.
tidy living room
put decs in loft room for DH to put away
make supper (sausage casserole)
ironing, if time allows
usual evening routines

missbennett · 04/01/2010 13:48

Well, local garage couldn't sort car so had to go further afield. Now delivered to garage for 'diagnosis' tomorrow. No doubt will be expensive!

In between doing that I have:

  • sorted out 3 and a half out of 4 bags of rubbish Guide stuff that accumulated over last term,
  • offered careers advice to DD1 and
  • insisted that DD2 got out of bed at a halfway reasonable time today in preparation for school tomorrow!
-decided that I will tidy cookery book shelves in the kitchen as today's zone work!

DD1's room still has jumble sale-like qualities though!

missbennett · 04/01/2010 13:51

Great excitement now - post just arrived, bringing with it DD1's provisional driving licence -just in time for birthday on Friday!! She is so pleased, bless her! And I feel terrified at the thought!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 04/01/2010 14:17

I know that my folks are glad that my little sis hasnt seen fit to venture onto the roads yet.

Right an update on todays list:
scanning
drop paperwork into school done
Post office
Student (stupid f*$^king) finance company paperwork again - need to hit print first.
Essay mentally cogitating this one so have a few ideas
Uni library trip. done but need to go back tomo.
Ring card company and cancel debit card (lost) and order new credit card pin (forgotten)
Oh and pay credit card bill. will have to wait until i can get through the snow to get to the bank with my savings account or new one arrives...

I have discovered that i can have a bit of alie in tomo as not expected in school til 10am but will be doing and activity wity year 1 and no idea of what topic, what ability and what time frame. Initial thoughts is the acid alkali red cabbage but it ia actually quite advanced and if the point is to understand the science then this one is not the best idea. Will have to see what tomo brings

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 04/01/2010 14:52

Just had a quick break.

Washing folded and away, washing on airers and next lot in.

Caught up on the washing up, including the lot that DH had hid in the broken dishwasher. So sides all clear now ready to be wiped down.

Need to sort hall out, then upstairs to see if I can make some more progress in the DC's room.

Mmmango · 04/01/2010 15:01

Ah flame, it was you!

Poor Pluto, can you think of it as a dry run?

Update on list for the week:
write thank you notes - done, wrap presents 2/3 done
post notes/ presents - can do some tomorrow
go through box of baby clothes - find next size up - nope
deal with huge piles of clothes in bedroom (charity bag/ laundry) - 30 mins done, but will stay on list as piles really are huge
deal with piles of crap in the entranceway (give away or throw away) - no, actually added a pile of clothes to go to il's (supposedly going tomorrow)
get cv together and apply for distance learning course - no

Tomorrow the plan is do all the morning stuff plus new babystep and get the baby sorted actually in the morning, so I can go out for lunch with a friend with a clear conscience. Then 15 mins decluttering in the kitchen, probably in the evening.

swanriver · 04/01/2010 15:20

House is hoovered and clutter pushed to corners (for now - she said menacingly)looks so much better -
dcs at school today except for one
a bit of home edding ds1 (only another week and then he's back to the grindstone at real school)
meal prepared for supper - nearly

MssBennett (are you mistletoe?) - hurrah on driving daughter - you have done the rght thing - as my mum thought I was too hopeless/unsafe to try, and I didn't pass till 35

Red cabbage lady - I need you here

Pluto - still, what a relief to come home again and no school pickup

Feel a bit windswept on this thread, you need to keep your hat firmly on here...

missbennett · 04/01/2010 16:19

Afraid I'm not mistletoe! But have been busy -
-sorted out Guide bags and paid cheques into bank
-rang to book driving lessons but had to leave message
-had a cup of tea and nice sit down (am sure that must count as job?! as read through post and recycled most of it!)
DD1 said with some dismay that licence only lasts til 2063!!! How long does she think it will take her?!
Now off to clear out kitchen bookshelves before tea.

missbennett · 04/01/2010 16:23

Pluto- meant to say, I've done that before - took DD2 to nursery only to find it shut! Can remember feeling such a plonker! Had to take her into work with me.......fortunately they are now old enough to a) remember the right day and b) be left on their own!!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 04/01/2010 17:02

Pluto another one here who has done that once.....or twice.....or three times

Have cleared the DC's bedroom floor whoop, whoop, whoop. All that needs to be done now is the shelf with Christening stuff on cleared (tankards and the like will be bought downstairs and put on display, the rest will go to the loft.) Put some toys that I don't want played with without supervision up on the shelf. Take out the drawers that have the washable nappies and think whether I need to sell the nappies or put them in the loft for future. Hoover floor. At the weekend need to bring bookcase in and bring books from downstairs, upstairs. Also will need to take all the nice neat boxes off the shelves and move them, as a lot of stuff has slid under neath them. Will look to see if the feet can come off so it sits directly on the floor with no gap.

Right need to see what I can russle up for tea, as I forgot to take the meat out

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 04/01/2010 18:13

What's the matter swanriver?

Right now i am about ready to throttle ds who is clingy and refusing to eat. He is such a contridiction. He is ssooo grown up and times and yet so little with others. Todya he is refusing to eat unless he is fed. I have just sent him to his bedroom for not eating nicely and messing about whilst i am trying to negotiate noodles into his mouth.

Right todays list left to do:
scanning
Post office
fill in Student finance company paperwork again
Essay mentally cogitating this one so have a few ideas
Ring card company and cancel debit card (lost) and order new credit card pin (forgotten)

Will boot up the scanner at get that done whilst ds is in the bath and i think it is another early night for him. I shall get up early and hit the books. He is not sleeping in this room.

I need to get sorted so the firsts thing first important jobs for this week:

Essay
primary school stuff
CV and application thingy that i am supposed to have emailed and only just remembered about
Review emailed

Once that is done the list is;
file paperwork for school
sort out school file
sort out proff file
sort out subject file

nervous breakdown. have to book it in early you know.

elliepac · 04/01/2010 18:49

evening all,

today i have accomplished......nothing. i plan to accomplish (in the time remaining).....nothing. i feel it is an achievement to have survived the first day back and therefore i should reward myself with feet up and wine .

way too many posts to respond to individually because i have feet to put up and wine to drink , we are a very busy thread this month and i have only managed to scan through although special mention must go to flame, i quite liked the name change . so i am afraid a big wave to everyone will have to suffice.

anyone 'seen' pa or om by the way?

lots of impressive lists today so well done to everyone.

tomorrow i shall be re-invigorated and ready and raring to go, for now however, i will drink wine. . teaching is far easier with a hangover...honest

MiniMincemeat · 04/01/2010 18:58

Evening All

Well, just in from work and DH had made a lovely pie for tea but it seems our dishwasher is broken so now we have to handwash the washing up from the whole day in one go! Oh well, will be a good chance for a chat

WCTR great cabbage experiment, I must remember that for when DS is a little older.

I think ironing might be off again tonight in favour of:

  • washing up
  • ordering a new dishwasher (this one has been too unreliable for too long now)
  • 15 minute declutter (probably cutlery drawer and tupperware cupboard)
  • shine sink

My interesting discovery yesterday (in my small kitchen) is that I can clean the surfaces while the kettle boils and sweep the floor while the tea brews so I guess it just goes to show that some of these things don't take long at all, it is just getting into the habit.

Welcome to objsmum and 1712 SSC sorry to hear that the vomit continues.

Happy Monday to everyone else...must go now and sort milk for DS. I gave up breastfeeding 3 days ago and think I'm starting to feel good about it at last.

optimisticmumma · 04/01/2010 18:59
