Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Morning! Was lovely, as I think someone else mentioned, coming down to tidy-ish kitchen! I made 2 packed lunches for me and DD1 and supplied DD2 with dinner money - new plan for her but probably won't last!
Hung out last night's washing - emergency load as PE kit needed tomorrow! So not complete emergency as would have been if produced tonight!
Had breakfast and checked mission to do later!
Both DDs have now gone to school and I'm off to work. No snow here so should be OK.
Hope you all have good days today.......look forward to hearing all about it later!

dawntigga · 05/01/2010 08:49

Been MIA and got some stuff done today's list:

Carry on decluttering room.
Take rubbish to tip - if everything melts a bit!
Make dinner - in slow cooker.
Get some sleep - has been v difficult over last 3 weeks with ds.
Research a Welsh dresser that dp can live with - this will solve quite a big problem with storage.
Sort out 1 kitchen cupboard

Right DC off to school, only have little one at home.

DC1 had to go to school without his PE kit. I thought he had put it in his school bag when I washed it but he didn't [roll eyes] and DH has shoved everything in boxes and on the bed and in our bathroom and the kids bathroom when he shifted everything to put up DC1's shelves. Looks like I will have to start sorting that room today rather than concentrating on the kitchen.

So list today is.

Washing (it was great to just press the button to start the first going this morning
.
Wash up breakfast things and put away things from last night.

Finish DC2&3'S bedroom

Start on DC1'S bedroom

15 minute mission

Possibly do fridge.

MiniMarmite · 05/01/2010 09:05

Morning All!

Just checking in quickly before getting on with paid work. I have a late work meeting tonight so will take a bit of time back during the day and do house things.

1712 glad to hear you don't actually have 6 DCs as I was feeling quite exhausted just thinking about it!

Welcome Vonnyh - meant to say hello yesterday but the thread was so long I kept losing track!

Well I managed to get the dishwasher going in the end and DH did the kitchen declutter (I didn't even ask him must have been some sort of fat fairly subliminal message)!

MiniMarmite · 05/01/2010 09:05

oops,

Have a good day everyone

StainlessSteelCat · 05/01/2010 09:25

morning

Where to start?!

chronological I think ....

Decided to give both kids a gentle soothing bed time bath. Resulting in DD (10 months) falling down the stairs. One ambulance trip later and several hours in A&E, DD is pronounced fine. She still has remains of the vomiting bug though - not a good combination with suspected head injury - and produced a particularly good hurl early this morning.

DS supposed to start back at school nursery today, but its shut due to snow.

DD supposed to start nursery yesterday - postponed due to sickness yesterday, and due to snow and guilt today.

So, DS in for a good day as I'm too tired to fight the residual guilt (DD fell down stairs because door was not shut properly ... aaaarg, nightmares going to be especially vivid for a while) so he'll get TV, Wii, crap food ... and be in 4 year old heaven.

today:
washing (the bedding must be geting fed up of the sight of the washing machine by now)
change bedding again
wash up
play in snow with DS
watch DD like a hawk
baby step

happy flying

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 05/01/2010 09:35

Well i will join people on the wrong school day. we seemed to be the only people who discovered that ds' school was shut but turning up. Being in reception we knew that we had to look at the school website to see if it open

Didnt get up early but now have the day off to write the essay. So now so far todays done list looks like:

Reduce sleep deprivation done

Was very amused to see a local farmer who used his tractor to pop to the shops by sticking a snow plough on the front. ingenious.

Not sure how to get my essay submitted on friday though. might have to email the tutor and find out what the policy is.

swanriver · 05/01/2010 09:47

oh SCC - that is AWFUL
my dcs have fallen down stairs several times since toddlerhood and lived to tell the tale (trampolines and bicycles though - don't even tempt fate - get helmets, knee pads, safety nets - it's worth it)
yest they were playing a particular dangerous game which involved sleeping bags and stairs called indoor sledging

I think we put up a stair gate in the end for the littlies - in fact I think we had no less than four stairgates in house at one point all gone now once they took to vaulting.

I am pleased with myself today for making a month's supply of lentil soup with a bacon knuckle - now in slow cooker.
No shiny sink last night - but I did get a determinedly early night so feel ready to face day - sure that is part of battle with housework.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 05/01/2010 09:49

The first lot of washing is hung up and the next lot is in.

Washing up done but forgot I had left bleach in the sink overnight so my sink is now Flylady clean not just MrsGok clean Our dishwasher is a little one that sits half on the work surface and half on the draining board and the drainage pipe just sits in the sink. It has been broken for months and I think I might have found out why. When I lifted the pipe up to clean under it a great big gop of bleurgh dropped out, when I looked up the pipe it was completely blocked . Have managed to clear a 1/3 of it, will have to get DH to move it tonight so he can get the pipe off it and clean it out. Will allso have to try and find a way to flush it through from inside. So we might not need to buy a new dishwasher after all, will see if I can persuade DH that we need a new Panasonic Bread Maker

Right, off to email DH the good news

StainlessSteelCat · 05/01/2010 09:51

swanriver - I was talking to the ambulance man abuot the joys of indoor sledging! Part of the guilt is due tothe fact that the stair gate fittings are all in place, tehgates themselves are in teh loft - we also removed them once DS learned how to climb over them.

So, also on todays list:
FIT THE BOODY STAIR GATES - that's myself I'm shouting at

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 05/01/2010 09:57

SCC hope your little one gets better soon. My DC3 has done the top to bottom thing a few times and it is terrifying. Luckily he seems to bounce.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 05/01/2010 09:58

sorry meant SSC

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 05/01/2010 10:03

Indoor sledging. I used to love that as a kid! Sorry my head is still fuzzy. Is your dd ok? Still is she ok apart from being sicky? And watch the sicky bit. Having spent a very scarey night in hospital on notice for emergency transfer and surgery due to head injury it is something that i know to take seriously now.

Will also admit that as soon as ds was able to walk (6mths) I taught him to go down the stairs backwards or on his bottom. It was 3 days worth the effort as it meant he was safe on the stairs. Plus could have stair gates on the stairs due to wobbly banisters and them falling out when any pressure was applied. thus more dangerous in then out. We used to have stair gates on doorways. And some stair gates we could fit so that you could shut the door. Very handy for bathrooms and stopping little boys playing in the toilet

mrsgrumpygruffalo · 05/01/2010 10:17

Juat popping back in to make my list, so far this morning I have done nothing at all oh dear!

To do;
Clear breakfast things
Fold clean washing
Hoover kitchen & Lounge
15 mins on wii fit (late family xmas prezzie from Fil we got yesterday)
Change kids bedding
Plan dinner

StainlessSteelCat · 05/01/2010 10:22

DD is fine thanks! She's full of the joys of crawling, and keeping us busy chasing after her as she heads for her brothers toys.

MrsGok - yup, they bounce alright, I was in time to watch her bounce down the last couple of steps ... a sight I wish I coudl forget but doubt I ever will.

Chaos - yup, watrching her closely. Problem is that she had vomiting before the fall, was at GP yesterday with her and they reckon it's due to her cold, so although I'm not ignoring it, I'm not getting too worried by it either- and it's been once in 12 hours, so unless it happens again I won't go back. Not sure how I would tbh, there's several inches of snow outside ....

ln1981 · 05/01/2010 10:34

morning! thankfully mine havent discovered the joys of indoor sledging yet, but oh the memories...
No nursery for dd, though ds1 has gone to school even though nursery rooms are IN SCHOOL!!! (not that im really complaining, was starting to go a bit mad.)

list for today

breakfast dishes washed and dried done
load of washing done
15min declutter done
todays mission
put washing on airer
quick tidy in kids room (forgot to do iot this morning-oops)
hoover hall&living room
ironing
shine sink

hope you all have a lovely day.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 05/01/2010 10:39

Ds with his head injury lost all balance and just feel over then couldnt keep his eyes open. He slept 16hours solid and was fine, but me i was a wreck so i know what you mean about something you wish you could forget. I am greatful i didnt see him get hit in the head with the stone and i think especially as i would terrorised the kids who did it. It was bad enough to have to speak to their parents

Know what you mean about snow. I am so over snow, although it is still nicer then rain and misery we normally have thistime of year. If she gets worse call an ambulance/emergency docs and dont worry about getting her to them. Head injuries can be nasty. Let them get to you!

Mmmango · 05/01/2010 11:50

SSC - talk about in the wars, glad that it sounds like dd is doing better. Good luck with the stairgates.

I also made a big fat face at sep's ds6, glad we got that cleared up.

Lots of teachers on here, aren't there? Are teachers particularly, um, challenged domestically?

Am I the only one who did post its? I have to say, they're makin me snigger every time i see them - esp. "get dressed". Not sure that's the intention, but whatever.

Today's babystep has all gone a bit serious and CBT, hasn't it? I can't think of a single thought i have about cleaning. Except maybe that it's boring. Should I start telling myself, cleaning is fun?

I got my morning stuff done (including sink) and had a nice social lunch and afternoon. Now going to do 15 mins in kitchen and some more of my list - will update shortly.

BlackYellowRed · 05/01/2010 12:23

Hello all

We got up this morning at 7 and by 7.30 we were ready to go out! DS had a bath, I had a shower and DD got dressed (shower last night). The children had breakfast while I was in the bathroom. All clothes were put out ready last night. DD made her lunch. Feel so accomplished! I don't think I have ever had them ready for school so easily and quickly since DS was born.

Apart from that, I haven't managed to get anything done. I ended up going to Tesco while DS was in nursery.

Thanks for all the encouragement. DH has commented on how the house has improved already.

matumble · 05/01/2010 12:38

Hi

I lost my place a little on here, my sink is now not so shiny and my slippers have been stolen by the 2 yr old but im back again and keeping on trying.

on the bright side my living room looks pretty good and my washing mountain is being well tackled so its not all doom and gloom.

StillCounting · 05/01/2010 13:25

Just checking in after a bit of a frustrating morning (something untoward always happens on your day off doesn't it?)

Hope everyone is doing OK

Droitwich -thanks for steps and your round-ups are completely awesome - how on earth do you keep track of everyone ?!

SSC - oh no!! Your poor dd, but relieved she is OK (head-injury-wise) though and hope the tummy bug clears up soon. You must be exhausted...

lol Matumble

Glad you had a good night's sleep WhereChaos and hope you get a better one tonight MrsGok

Hope today is going OK DreamTeam - thinking of you ...

PF - come back me old mucker!!

Flaps microbfibre cloth at everyone else!!

Spent most of morning dealing with "lock" emergency ...couldn't get back in our house after the school run this morning! Dh had to do a James Bond-like manoeuvre over our neighbour's (7ft)garden wall and break in at the back downstairs ....bloke here now trying to fix both doors .. and my day off has gone to the dogs ..

Added to that, one day back and dd's school has sent an "alerte aux poux" (head-lice alert) by e-mail saying that some children are affected in her class. One day back after a two-week break for heaven's sake!! How does that happen???? Grrrrrrrr!!! No sign of the little beggers this morning fortunately but it's back to the preventative combing rituals ...oh joy ..

I'm off to put MiniM's advice in to practice and do something useful while perking myself a large, strong coffee....harruumph

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 05/01/2010 13:39

Will update later but just wanted to say hope you have a better afternoon SC

I'm off in the snow with DC 2&3. Grandad has gone to pick up DC1

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 05/01/2010 14:40

Have cleaned the to salad drawers from the fridge

Finished the littlies room as far as I can go.

Done a couple of 15 minute declutters in the kitchen and little spaces are starting to appear.

We had a blue sky when DC2 came home from Nursery at 12.00. By 1.30 the snow was falling. The DC are loving it. Don't think we are going to get much.

Pluto · 05/01/2010 14:51

DWM thanks for the personal mission I am very excited as I have a lovely fresh, pristine teacher planner and new pens in my pencil case and a really-nice-school-have-been-kind-to-me-timetable to colour in. Perhaps going back won't be so bad.

Not really flying as have been too busy doing work things but will aim to do some ironing later.

Waving to you all

Mmmango · 05/01/2010 16:11

BYR - great work getting ready so fast in the morning. When I was working, with only 1 dc and only myself to sort out in the mornings it didn't go that smoothly!
