Decluttering Thread 13 - Hopefully Lucky For Some!

Good morning fellow sorters, chuckers & sellers! Starting a new thread as No 12 was almost full. This thread is one of my favourites & I find it hugely inspiring. I have a very long way to go as my house still resembles a jumble sale but I have got rid of a lot over the last few months plus made some money into the bargain. Last night I transferred several carrier bags of clothes that are on Vinted into a pink velvet storage chest that, ironically, hadn’t been assembled & was taking up space in DH’s office 🤣🤣🤣 It’s now in front of the storage cubes in the lounge & honestly, the pleasure I get from seeing it & the space created is immense.
I need a day to dedicate to Vinted as I have bags of clothes still to photograph & upload, some clothes to try on which may end up on there too & some TJC rings to photograph for selling. They were quite expensive but I rarely wore them & now they’re too big. I have a huge car bill to pay so the extra pennies will be great. Have a productive day all!

We had a clear out of old and duplicate tools. Booked online for a home pick-up via Anglo Doorstep Collections so we didn't even need to leave the house!

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 16/07/2026 20:18

Yesterday’s outs felt good because they all went to someone who will love them.

Helmet and safety gear
nerf guns
in-line roller blades
Pokemon board game

Two books to DH for the bus.

Looked through the dvds. Not all mine. Will text kids to see who claims what.

Uniform items that had been set aside for a suitable time to donate finally out of the house.

There’s now an empty chest of six (!) drawers free to a good home. I’m determined not to fill it again. I forget what I have if it’s not visible on a shelf. It feels weird to say that, but I don’t think it’s unusual.

Kikimusnik · 17/07/2026 07:15

I have used the Anglo doorstep collection a few times now. It's great and just saves a lot of time and hassle taking bags to charity shop etc.

SydneyCarton · 17/07/2026 09:54

Keep falling off the thread, but have been plugging away with small bits and pieces. I took a bag of clothing to the textile recycling at school - last day today so made a big effort to remember it! Various bits taken to the charity shop including a framed picture which has hung around since DD1 was a baby - she is now 12....

I sold a few books to World of Books which went OK - payment took a while to come through but I got £12 for half a dozen which was better than nothing. Vinted stuff has stalled a bit and I need to make it a priority to at least list the things I have stuffed in various carrier bags, and set a deadline by which I'll donate them if they don't sell.

@mangomama91 We've started keeping only the more creative ones like Art, English, History so we can look back at their stories and pictures. The maths and science stuff is less personal, although I have kept DD2's "Life Cycle of a Frog" because the last sentence is "When the frog grows up he finds a girl friend and marries her" which I just thought was too cute.

Acheyelbows · 18/07/2026 14:37

Made the trip to the recycling centre today and got rid of all the things I had gathered to bring.

E scooter
Hoover
Sandwich maker
Old charger
2 x electric blankets

4 cardboard boxes
3 solid wooden boxes

2 large black bags of bed linen
4 black bags of clothing (not mine)

Squeezed a black bag of very old newspaper and a very old, dusty and degraded wicker basket into our waste bin.

Still have three black sacks to put in over the summer.

Bought more clothes though - 2 jackets, 3 tops and 2 trousers. Did an inventory of my work clothes and have enough tops for 4 weeks and trousers for 2 1/2 weeks. Shouldn't need to buy anything besides shoes in Autumn.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 18/07/2026 14:57

3 dresses including a silk one from the charity shop which creases to buggery & a Monsoon full length chocolate brown one - I did consider putting that one on Vinted but it creases very easily too & the cut is a bit strange.

I keep on falling off this thread! Life has just been busy I guess. Everyone's doing so well!
Anyway did a trip to the charity shop today and got rid of 11 book and a lamp. Chucked some holey DH undies and a manicure kit. I keep on removing clothes I don't wear from my wardrobe into my Vinted pile. Do actually need to list those! Will count them when they sell or are charity shopped

New Total 1203

A George cardigan that I’ve had for years

Realised after posting yeaterday that the empty chest of drawers could replace a shoogly old table that everything keeps sliding off, is an absolutely useless size and shape, and has claw feet that I keep stubbing my toes on. I made the switch and somehow the chest of drawers takes up less space than the table, and is perfect for files and ring binders.

The stuff from the top of the table is in drawers, and I may even be able to tidy enough away to release one shelf.

That is so cute about the frog! DC is coming back on Monday with their exercise books from school, and it took me till the end if Y2 to get rid if the Y1 ones...I don't plan on keeping them that ling thus time. I'm fairly unsentimental about them but I might keep one.

Week has been busy but we have a final leg of Fuck it Chuck it tomorrow. Afte that we'll focus on using stuff up.

Hi everyone,

The last time I posted was in February, but the decluttering journey has continued!
I finally managed to start sorting the garage. I did three tip runs and got rid of at least 50 items per run. It would have been too much to try and count every item, so I decided that I'd just do a low guesstimate instead.

Vinted sales (35 items)
3 x bundle of three items, 1 x bundle of 4 items, 1 x bundle of two items, perfume, kids crocs, 4 girls dresses, 2 x girls pyjamas, girls matching top and skirt, flower girl shoes, hand cream, beach towel, ted baker dress, kids book, two kids vests and pair of shorts. Total from Vinted sales - £157.80.

Binned items (58 items)
4 dolls, broken yoyo, 2 x broken toy unicorn, toy pony, spiderman keyring, toy ball, broken dinosaur toy, broken money box, dress, wedges, small make up bag, women's pyjamas, camera bag, phone case, old iPad case, 2 x underwear, 2 old calendars, pair of socks, two pairs of tights, avon body lotion, 3 kids bath toys, 4 leggings, broken sunnies, school hoodie, 5 toy kitchen tins, jumpsuit, cath kitson bag, 10 pairs of women's shoes to schuh and 5 kids shoes to schuh.

Gifted items (13)
2 x kids books, 3 x jigsaws, onsie, pair of kids wellies, micro scooter, balance bike, trike, toy laptop, toy guitar, and trike.

New 2026 total - 309 items!

I've now been decluttering for 3 years! Next on the list is going through our bedding and towels (we seem to have so much of both), taking 3 bags of clothes to the charity shop and getting rid of as much as I can from the garage... despite the tip runs, the garage is still fairly full.

I've read all the posts since February, well done everyone and welcome to all the new declutterers who have joined the thread 👋

IndianSummer78 · 19/07/2026 15:50

Two dresses too small donated
One shampoo used up
One conditioner used up
Total is 5030

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 19/07/2026 21:03

Shoogly table has gone to a good home.

DD took two pairs nearly new workboots to sell.

Took fashion boots for herself.

Kid took binbag of plastic bottles to recycling for pocket money.

Pigtailsandall · 20/07/2026 13:13

Right, the third weekend day chucking, recycling and giving away things. There's visible space now and I'm quite happy not to take lug this stuff to a new house next month. I still haven't gotten everything out the door (like few things need to go to go to the council recycling tip, and textile recycling bag will go just before we move) but there's good progress.

Out this weekend:
150 CDs
bra
9 kids clothing items (to a friend)
cleanser used up
umbrella
2 books
3 plastic folders
birthday candle set
spoon
pack of paper plates (about 50)
Old glasses (taken to specsavers)
marker
4 hefty academic journals
2 large notebooks
speaker
2 camping chairs
football
19 items from the shed (mainly paint tins)
Old kindle
old phone
2 card reader devices
5 charging cables
keychain
2 manuals
kids' notebook
6 old credit/loyalty cards
plastic toy
oven cleaning kit
shoe polish
hand-held fan
14 bits of school uniform to a friend
sunglasses
makeup pouch
pack-away raincoat
2 handbags
11 items of my clothing to the charity shop

Sadly few things in..
tea towel (from school)
2 books (presents for DC birthday from a friend)
17 (!) filled up Year 2 exercise books from school I am not allowed to give away!
small paper fan, given to DC by a pal

So it continues - I really hope I can get rid of at least half of those exercise books, particularly the handwriting ones which have no stories or anything cute in them/

Total ins = 229
total outs = 1030

TheNoWord · 20/07/2026 15:29

W/E 19/07 Week 29

Vinted
Final few things added.

Week 29 total = 20
Total for year so far = 272/365

Away next week so will take any stuff with us that can be used up (or make the children and grandchildren take it home/eat it/drink it/use it!)

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 21/07/2026 07:58

A slow period but still getting rid of bits & pieces including a t shirt that’s too small & some of DD17’s stuff that’s dumped on the landing. She’s hoping to move out either late this year or early next & parts of the house will be transformed!

OP posts:
IndianSummer78 · 21/07/2026 12:19

False lashes used up
Uncomfortable underwear binned
Face oil used up
Total is 5033

Acheyelbows · 21/07/2026 19:12

Ordered a skip for the weekend. Old table broken down and 7 bags lined up to go in. Eyeing up tubs of old toys on garage shelves I can't currently access but will get to them and get them sorted.

New garage door being fitted tomorrow, hoping it makes life a lot easier.

One brown bin filled with weeds and flowers that have died off. Working my way through a tonne bag of mulch and only have around 2 wheel barrows left. If I get that used up I have another half one at the back of the house. It's taken so long I can't even remember ordering two tonne bags.

Pigtailsandall · 23/07/2026 10:33

Few more items gone as the week progresses...

2 more academic papers I was keeping for referencing (but have not referenced ever)
a toddler pillow
kids' shorts
a handcream used up (finally!)

I also took a pile of shredding from DH to work. I was so proud of myself for not having much paper but DH just keeps finding more and more. I also recycled some paper bags and organisers etc but I'm not counting those. Our bins get collected on monday and the recycling is almost full! So things are moving along...

Total outs for the year = 1035

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 23/07/2026 11:16

Yesterday, two bags for life full of vhs films away to Oxfam shop.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 24/07/2026 16:21

Can I join? I'm doing a Swedish death clean. I was pretty decluttered, but sort of lapsed a bit while having a lot of hospital treatment and feeling shitty. Back on the wagon now! I'm not going to count, just list, if that's okay?

To be donated:
Single bedding set and fitted sheet
Single fitted sheet
Pillowcase
Double duvet set
Wheelie holdall bag I never use which is tricky to store

To throw away:
Two pillows past their best
Large zippy bag thing that new pillows came in

(You can tell I've been in the linen cupboard!)

I'm also going to put another shelf in the linen cupboard so it will be easier to organise.

IndianSummer78 · 25/07/2026 08:25

Sure thing, batshit. Use the thread however you like.

Two from the laundry, worn out vest top and shrunken shorts. Total is 5035.
Wondering if I'll end up around 10k by the time I'm finished 🥴. I'm about 50% through it all. Looking more like an overloaded maximalist than a bit of a hoarder now. I have floor space in places I haven't had floor space for years.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 25/07/2026 09:02

Sold a pair of M & S cropped trousers on Vinted.
