Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Staringcoat · 30/10/2018 11:59

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Cagliostro · 30/10/2018 13:53

Hmm well the meringue was slightly disastrous as didn’t cook through. Can meringue mix split?!

Meet0nTheIedge · 30/10/2018 18:14

Thanks for the new thread SC. I'm going to post now then keep off MN for the evening (and the internet generally) as I can't watch the Bake-Off final live.

I did take advantage of my free half hour yesterday to have a cuppa and do some crafting but the ironing didn't go away and I did it at about 11pm.

Today I have taken DD to the orthodontist, been to work, top up food shop, more emails, phone calls etc, picked DS up from after school club, cooked dinner, helped DD with baking, cleaned out the microwave .

Zoo our kitchen table is against a wall too, it gets piled very high with random crap (mostly magazines and schoolwork).

Still need to take DS to football and carve those pumpkins. It's not going to be an early night I don't think.

Staringcoat · 30/10/2018 19:47

Welcome to the November thread everyone!

Cag yes meringues can split. Have a look at troubleshooting articles: here,
[[https://www.sbs.com.au/food/explainer/make-meringue
here]]
and here (which is probably more than you ever wanted to know about meringues making in one lifetime! Grin

Signing in!

I totally failed on my mission for gummy worms or Halloween cake decorations or anything really to do Halloween baking with! So I gave up and bought the kids some little milkybar ghosts instead Halloween Smile .

Meet I can't watch bake off either as we can't watch channel four live on our TV Angry have to wait for it to be on catch up. Ah well.

Dc are in bed and I am supposed to be checking some paperwork for a meeting tomorrow but I don't want to. I want to watch rubbish TV!

Staringcoat · 30/10/2018 20:07

Enjoy Bake Off promise not to give game away Wink and the pumpkin carving Meet!

Well done re: dining room table hot-spot taming Zoo!

Dh and I have enjoyed a rare teen free day today. Most of it has been spent running around in builders merchants in driving rain though! (So overcast it was virtually dark at 2.30pm. Shock. Bit of a sharp contrast to recent sunny days!) We were planning to go out to dinner but dh still shattered by trip and I'm more than happy to curl up by fire.

Xpost Foxes good idea re: milky bar ghosts! Plenty of years ahead for Halloween baking yet! Enjoy a bit of leisure while you can!

Just sliding in for the new thread. Not much flying today. Halloween prep tomorrow and I'm out in the morning (but will try and keep that to a minimum). Ho hum, where's that quote from the other day about doing the best you can and moving on to tomorrow Grin

ta da
✅worked on DD’s Halloween costume
✅did first salt bath thing for tooth (about to do second one) uggggh 🤢
✅didn’t have meltdown about cooking failures
✅made mummy puff pastry pizzas with Caglets
✅had scrambled egg myself as can’t chew pizza 😭 (used extra yolks left from meringue making)
✅went to tap
✅bit of washing up (struggling with water heating though)
✅was brave/assertive and phoned housing trust to check ID of people who came to wash outside of houses, and managed to say no you can’t have access to our garden due to lack of ID! HT were really grateful for me phoning as well
✅phoned Tesco as they didn’t tell us about a sub (asked for Halloween cupcake kit. Was given Christmas cake decorations 🤔)
✅made plans for tomorrow
✅got baby in bed slightly earlier 🙄
✅remembered vitamin d

Really must go to bed shortly. Promised Caglets they can dye their hair tomorrow which means an early start.

The gnome is snoring and woke me up...on my day off! I answered then realised the other thread was looked can’t remember what I said now.

Planning to clear kitchen today. Just essentials kept. Enjoyed Bake Off. Still need to catch up with thread. Happy flying.

Callmecordelia · 31/10/2018 06:20

Hello. I'm still here occasionally. Hope you are all OK.

Am I dreaming, or is there a flylady Christmas countdown thing?

Staringcoat · 31/10/2018 07:20

Hey Cordelia, good to "see" you! Hope all well! The holiday mission is linked below if that is what you are after (scroll down and you will see previous ones too!). If you were thinking of something else do let my know though!!

Bower sympathies as dh just woke me up too! I was having a lovely dream as well. Grrr. Still, it seems to be a much better day weather wise, so had better crack on and make the most of it!

Sorry you had such a bad night Zoo hats off for before-school baking; I would never be organised enough!

Amazing list yesterday Cag!

Have a good day Sass!

Vigorous wing flaps to everyone else and very well done re: your lists at end of last thread and beginning of this one; you've all been really industrious!

Dh has lunch meeting in town and I need to collect DD from station and help her with her costume for tonight, so after a morning session with dhorse, we are heading back to wreck1 overnight. Not ideal in middle of holiday but all the planning for this week is up the creek anyway and at least the teen will be happy!

Happy anti-procrastination day everybody!

Cagliostro · 31/10/2018 10:33

Loving those bakes!

My tooth (or rather lack of it) is really hurting this morning 😖 have done the first salt bath thing and will take some painkillers, how do I know what level is normal though? 🤔

Also dyed DD’s hair, came out quite well I think and amazingly they still made it on time to art class. They walked on their own.

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/10/2018 10:53

cag it's normally painful 24/48 hours then starts get better.if gums are bruised(purply colour) that'll be worse.if it feels hot to your tongue compared rest gum line it might need looking at before 2days are up.be guided by pain really.if it's so painful paracetamol isn't taking it down at all and you are can't eat/sleep for it then I'd be asking dentist to have a look.wrap scarf over face if out in cold too as cold wind bloody hurts as goes in the hole and along the gum line/jaw!!
Lil zoo us restless and can't get comfy..I start ache a bit and feel like hot cold coming but no sneezing.she better not be giving it to me(she's had temp couple days)
Meal plan/Shop list written
More wash about go in drier(2loads towels now clean!)
Now to proper scrub clean dining table!!

Cagliostro · 31/10/2018 11:03

Thanks zoo that’s helpful, I do have one more appt next Monday at least so no matter what he will check it then

There’s a baby asleep on me 🤷‍♀️ So I’m eating nice soft mini muffins. DH is cleaning hair dye from the bath (it’s only a 6-10 wash dye so nothing permanent)
