Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Staringcoat · 30/10/2018 11:59

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Oh also
✅wrote a list on my phone of various things I need to talk through and organise with DH, organised into categories. Not sure when we will actually be able to talk about it though.

I’m on attempt 2 of getting baby to bed

Staringcoat · 04/11/2018 01:00

Hey all. I am back in town. DH, who has fluey type thing but was feeling better today (or so we thought) started feeling worse this evening (shivery, headache, runny nose, cough) so I thought reinforcements were required. We are only just going to bed now as he didn't feel well enough to lie flat earlier.

Hope Cagletini slept eventually Cag! Well done for ploughing on through a difficult day.

Fantastic list Foxes!! Jelly bean recipe is one of those things you make one is at end of chore list, ie never!!

Thanks SC 🎃 I haven't heard who won - perhaps MNHQ thinks we've all limped back to our coffins.

Child's got a temp so I've been up cleaning the kitchen since 5.30. really deep clean of all appliances. Last one is the fridge but breakfast first.

Hope zoolets on the mend. Catching up on the posts.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/11/2018 08:14

Home made jelly beans?pompom makers?
What kind of parallel universe is this?!Grin

Cag hope you feeling bit more human today.waitrose fruit jellies are acceptable to me anyway we have a Waitrose within 10 mins walk by a heron foods and an Asda so it's quite a mix of optionsand

Sc how disappointing you had to return without more time with dhorse.of course, hope DH is ok

Church was a shocker.saturdays have reached an all-time low with local drug using alcoholics/MH issues kicking off.i stepped in to prevent fights twice, third time it took four of us to rip two apart...I got pushed in the melee and lost balance banging
back into a table
Luckily D's was out with rev at time planting bulbs.lil zoo was fenced into dad's club(pitied poor man in charge of that.hes only just told someone it looks a bit rough but is perfectly harmless)
One of the customers rang police even though we had simmered it down by time they arrived.police car outside and most neighbourhood came in to be nosey so it was all hands on deck busy.my hour and clear off never happened-try 915-1230 constantly on the go.i limped home.made sandwiches for zoolets and fell into bed!
On reflecting I email rev apologising but making it clear dd2 wasn't coming in again, things are coming to a head and she doesn't need to see behaviour like that, nor be expected to try and contain them if they kick off.its only a limited few in amongst an otherwise good community but as a church space it's difficult to ban anyone and the volunteers on a Saturday are almost all retired(my favourite is 93 and was a land girl then a dinner lady.my god, she's a trooper.i had to bribe her to stop at 12 with tea and biscuit as her legs were hurting her so badly but she didn't want to abandon her post)and I think very vulnerable in an unstable environment.thrres no clear "leader" and no sense of authority.oddly enough there's no trouble on Tues and Thursday even tho the trouble makers don't work...
Anyhoo rev emailed me back there's going to be a volunteer meet this week as she's very concerned about it.will have to try and get in to that.its a shame, but I think Saturday may have to close and add another weekday in
Rest day I slept til 630
Staggered up to throw cereal at zoolets and collapse on sofa
Dd2 had cereal n toast.i went back to sleep on sofa.ds came down panicking I gave up.hus snoring on other sofa woke me about 15 mins ago!!

Hoping todays a bit easier, but doubtful.place is disgustingly hovellish and I have go buy dd2 new school shoes as hers leak(25 mins walk away)

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/11/2018 09:06

Someone shoot me!!!
Multiple rows to extract zoolets(namely dd2 and D's as he was up panicking in the night)from beds
I'm joining cag in axe murderer corner and cats hurled on my bed and it's dried in now

Cagliostro · 04/11/2018 10:04

Oh no zoo that all sounds incredibly stressful 😰

Axe murderer seems to have been overkill (no pun intended Hmm) this time as it’s not been so bad after all - one horrific day yesterday but much better today already (compared with several awful days last month). So maybe it’s going to get easier or it was just one bad month and then this will be how it is going forward. In which case I will need to plan around that as there’s no way I could manage eg a home ed trip. I need to update diary to keep track of dates. Will still mention to GP anyway as I do think I need a scan for cysts Hmm

Gum still sore as well and very tired. Blah. DH already left but he finishes earlier so that’s good.

Bowerbird5 · 04/11/2018 10:27

Oh my good ness zoo &Cags what a time you had yesterday. Just popping in to say when I should be in shower to get ready for church. Realised why I was feeling sooooo tired. I had my flu injection on Wednesday! Woke up several times in night, worrying a bit as I left my bag at school and need to do planning. Have done Monday’s thank goodness. Needed to make a list of resources though.

To do
Ironing
Putting away clothes
Clear back of kitchen door.
Make bed, it is airing.
Church
Lunch
Choir
Research pans.

Will pop in later hope everyone has a restful day, not easy with kids.

MsForestierinParis · 04/11/2018 11:52

We all need an extra day in this weekend....

foxessocks · 04/11/2018 12:38

An extra day would be so good! Hope you're ok zoo after your ordeal

Ta da
An hour or so work
Dh has cleaned front of oven
Dishwasher on
Washing on
Some washing folded
Ordered new bowls as we've broken so many recently, can't even blame the dc! Blush
Dh has taken sides of ds cot so he's now in a cotbed... we'll see how this goes, dh just putting him down for a nap!

To do
Go for a run
Do some more work

Those are the most important things anyway. I'm still feeling tired despite a few good night's sleeps.

Staringcoat · 04/11/2018 13:47

Hey all!

MsForestierinParis (love the new nn btw!) well done for crack of dawn deep cleaning. I am also wielding the bleach bottle, cleaning, sinks, door handles, taps, kitchen bin, remotes, all lavs etc. What with dh being ill (he's a terribly impatient patient) and dd stressing over hwk project, I may well head back to my coffin for some peace this afternoon Grin Hope the lurgy recedes quickly at yours.

Crikey Zoo that all sounds very stressful indeed (not to mention potentially dangerous). Although I applaud the policy to welcome everyone, it's unfair to foist the policing of it on to untrained volunteers, especially if a lot of them are elderly. My old parish back at home runs a homeless outreach programme and lots of their end-users appear at church, but the programme is staffed by volunteers with professional experience of addictions and homelessness etc. Not surprised you are withdrawing dd2, and it's not acceptable for you to get shoved in to a table. The rev sounds well-intentioned but a bit naieve tbh. Glad you and Zoolets are safe anyway x

Sorry you have to go on long shoe buying trek when you are feeling rotten? No support forthcoming from dp I suppose (I suspect I know the answer)? (Angry on your behalf)

Cag very good idea to push for scan, don't be fobbed off, but glad things seem a bit better overall

Great list as ever Foxes!

Not surprised you are tired Bower even with possible side effects of flu jab. You haven't stopped! Brew Cake

Encouraging wing flaps to everyone else!

We didn't have too bad a night after all, all things considered.

Ta da:
walked furry
Mass
emptied dw
bleached all kitchen surfaces, door handles, bins, lavs, sinks, remotes, taps etc etc etc
filled dw
emptied wms
one dining room table hot spot (dd has commandered the other one)
copy-edited dh's Webinar power point presentation thing
copy-edited dd's school project
found art materials/stationery supplies for dd
40 mins tidying up boudoir
tries to find recipe unsuccessfully but found loads of others!

Lord give me strength for I am an unsympathetic harridan. Dh is now in bed again but was distressed this lunch time that he could only manage half of a tiny turkey and salad sandwich. He doesn't have a stomach upset at all, he just isn't hungry. But this in his eyes is a major di-sarrrrsss-ter darling. Having scurried around bringing drinks and pillows and paracetomol tablets and cups of tea I may have lost my patience a bit and the word "Yemen" may have been mentioned ... Hmm

To do:
finish hand-made card for someone and start enough
re-feed washing machines/td dry previous loads
more boudoir clearance
more birthday present wrapping and buying
buy Christmas cards on-line
make more soup for dinner
supper prep (chicken again as that is the only thing dh fancies) and think of something different to do with root vegetables

OP posts:
Staringcoat · 04/11/2018 13:50

Gah! Sorry Zoo not sure why question mark appeared after shoe sentence!! And start enough should have been start another. One day I will proof read

OP posts:
foxessocks · 04/11/2018 14:27

Well ds is still asleep and didn't get out of his bed despite his new freedom with no sides!

I've been for a run. Still got to do some more work but don't want to wake ds as the computer is nextdoor to him. Dd is watching a bug's life on dvd. Been quite a peaceful day really! I might have a cup of tea and some apple crumble and a sit down for a while.

BrewBrewBrew

MsForestierinParis · 04/11/2018 14:38

I think you should Foxes you've been very productive as have you SC, bower, Cag and zoo.

Ms Forestier is an SOE agent from a historical novel, much like Charlotte Grey. She is working in Paris gathering intelligence by shagging a good-looking Nazi Colonel while her true love is in the Resistance. She is incredibly resourceful and sharp.

By contrast I think I spend too much time on housework. Dh helps a lot but he was working this weekend so I'm just about to escape to Asda on a dangerous mission to gather provisions before nightfall which will soon be 4.30 in these parts

I really don't get out enough...

MsForestierinParis · 04/11/2018 14:39

Blew up dam cleaned oven I mean

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/11/2018 14:42

Arf at prospect of "d"p helping SC
Survived shoe shop/bit food shop
Trek to other shops for dairy free stuff
Eaten lunch
Surveying mess

To do
Need sort washing-up girls have no clean uniform/pe kits/ towel levels at critical

Locate all living room and kitchen surfaces

Sweep floor

Littertray

Bins all need emptying

This is bare minimum(oh and sort my bed)

Dd2 knee deep in homework as spent all morning yesterday volunteering so D's is on help mum duty(except for bed.dd2 will do that "for money"Grin)
He's slow and hapless, but better than no help at all

Sooner start,sooner collapse -&and don't move again--

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/11/2018 14:43

mrsforester a smile to my lips read your X post.a previous thing at mo!!thank you for thatSmile

Cagliostro · 04/11/2018 14:44

I have done nothing except eat! Just want chocolate today 🤐

Also I made the mistake of letting Cagletini play with my Boots card that she found somewhere... now I have no idea where she’s put it and I need it to order the stair gates as there’s a points offer on.

MsForestierinParis · 04/11/2018 15:35

(on a serious note I'm full of admiration for those in the SOE and other units during the war, especially as we remember them at this time of year)

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/11/2018 15:57

Why can't we have a poppy emoji?

I got mine today, need locate vendor with the bracelets dd2 likes,D's usually opts for a rubber bracelet.lil zoo has a bag charm I picked up today

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/11/2018 15:59

Two loads washing done,one folded.
At least two more to do to consider a dent made
Floors and surfaces cleared in living room and half the kitchen

I am crying with exhaustion/impatience to feel better

Staringcoat · 04/11/2018 16:30

Oh dear Zoo you poor thing; that sounds hideous. You have achieved loads though! Star This too shall pass and all of that. Wish your dp was there helping though. Hope you can have a bit of a rest later on if Zoolets allow Flowers

Whatever gets you through the day MsForestierinParis Grin Grin
Seriously though, have you read memoirs of Pearl Witherington Cornioley, Code Name Pauline: Memoirs of a World War II Special Agent? Worth a read. And yes, lest we forget and all of that.

There REALLY should be a poppy emoticon on Mumsnet shouldn't there. Mind you, it will probably spark pages and pages of polemic. Mumsnet seems to be getting more and more vituperative nowadays. I clicked on a thread last night and people were managing to have a really unpleasant barny about soup of all things [sigh]

Well done re: running Foxes

Toostressy hope all going ok at yours. [ Post party Gin and comfy footstool for later!]

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Ta da cont'd/...
finish hand-made card for someone and start another done
re-feed washing machines/td dry previous loadsdone
more boudoir clearance NOPE
more birthday present wrapping and buying NOPE
buy Christmas cards on-line NOPE
make more soup for dinner WIP
supper prep (chicken again as that is the only thing dh fancies) and think of something different to do with root vegetables done and it took ages for ¨some reason
walked furry again

Dh is feeling even rougher now. Must be the real flu I think. Really hope we don't all succumb.

OP posts:
Staringcoat · 04/11/2018 16:34

Actually MsForestier "The Heroines of Soe: F Section: Britain's Secret Women in France" is probably a better read overall (less American in style)

And this is the one I meant before
She Landed By Moonlight: The Story of Secret Agent Pearl Witherington: the 'real Charlotte Gray'

((got the wrong title - the one I mentioned previously is a Chicago press edition I think)

OP posts:
MsForestierinParis · 04/11/2018 16:39

I'll check that out SC, many thanks. Reading a book about the German experience of war at the moment and another about travellers in the Third Reich just before the war.

Cagliostro · 04/11/2018 16:53

I may have spoken too soon. Ugh heavy heavy heavy. And a mouth full of ulcers too. Epic.

Pretty much just sat around watching catch up tv and eating random junk food. Need to sort dinner but it’s pork chops and I’m not sure I can eat it 🤦‍♀️😭
