Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Staringcoat · 30/10/2018 11:59

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

frogging - when take a project and you rip-it, rip-it. Partial because it is being re-purposed and some of the work can be saved rather that ripping it all out and starting from scratch,

Cagliostro · 01/11/2018 20:53

Not at all patronising sc! :) Nice problem to have I know 😳 I feel very lucky just a bit overwhelmed IYSWIM. Re debt we have a little (maybe half the amount dad is giving me) but it’s on 0% easily paid off long before that runs out (DH has a standing order). Long list of things we need and want, basically I think it’ll go straight in the ISA but I want to have a plan for it IYSWIM.

Got taxi to Badgers/Cadets as well as home again, I felt really unwell and sleepy and had toothache earlier. Anyway Thursdays should be DH’s problem from now on.

foxessocks · 01/11/2018 20:56

I can't find it actuallysc I'd love to see the recipe but only if it's easy to find don't worry! I hardly ever deep fry either , it scares me!! Especially with the dc around (dh was here so they were away from the kitchen with him!). I tested the heat of the oil with a cube of bread, which I then ate and remembered how much I love fried bread!! Seriously tempted to make myself some to go with a fry up one of these days Smile

All this talk of food is making me hungry!

Staringcoat · 01/11/2018 22:08

Ha! Rip it Hills! Grin. That's proper crafter's speak Grin

Sorry you are still feeling rough Cag but well done for making it through a testing Thurs. And good luck re: ISA research.

Not surprised you are wary of deep frying with little ones in the house Foxes very wise to keep them coralled! Will seek out the book no worries! Smile

Damn I think I made it all the way through the month with a daily ta da list until yesterday! Ah well. New month new start.

ta da
✅made jelly worms with the Caglets (really tough to get out of the straws, many failed! But it was fun using leaf gelatin for the first time, I want to use it in other stuff now! Any thoughts?)
✅a little home ed, REALLY struggled with motivation today so very proud I did more than the absolute minimum
✅made it to Badgers/Cadets despite feeling horrific
✅did salt rinse and took painkillers
✅put clothes away with DH
✅weighed self in Boots. Fuuuuuuck

So very worn out today and baby pulled a lasagne dish out of the cupboard and smashed it, then later I dropped a bowl too 😭 fucksake

Cagliostro · 01/11/2018 22:20

I really want a deep fryer. My dad makes THE BEST chips and I want to copy. We would use it for way more than that though - tempura veg, arancini, all sorts.

Going to grab something to eat then do my last salt thing. Hope DH is home soon.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/11/2018 22:39

Such a busy half term week! Was at work all day today and kids had a lovely day doing belated Halloween stuff with childminder. Unfortunately I was shattered tonight and have wasted the night and done nothing. Giving up and will have to be organised tomorrow. We have loads to do as it is DD1’s party this weekend. Tomorrow I have a ridiculous to do list which is not even written yet and is whirling round my head. Going to give up and go to sleep and hope for organisation tomorrow!

Thanks so much for last month and new thread SC.

Hello to everyone else.

Cagliostro · 01/11/2018 23:08

Ooh yes I totally forgot to say thanks 😳

Put baby in bed at 9, and I haven’t followed. FFS

Cagliostro · 01/11/2018 23:27

Still procrastinating about going to sleep.

Zoo I like the fact that your “all fed no one dead” meal still sounds like something I’d pay good money for in a restaurant! Sounds amazing! 😍😋

It's 5am and dh and I are wide awake for no good reason! Gah! Apparently I woke him up this time. He's going off to the office to work (so much for holidaying together!) and I am sorting laundry.

Thanks for the thanks everyone! Smile. As I said on Oct thread, went straight through to Nov thread for expediency's sake. I'm happy to continue with Nov, but please shout if anyone else wants to take over as I don't want to impose!

Cag great list for which you earn a Star for resilience! As for consistent list making throughout Oct, no perfectionism is allowed on here remember, so it counts as a definite win! Grin Love the deep-frying ideas! Will ponder gelatine recipes but I'm not good on wobbly food!

Gosh Toostressy you sound frantically busy. Pls don't feel guilty about having a rare evening's rest after a hard day's graft! Good luck with the party prep!

Right, just debating whether to return to the warm duvet or continue with the house fairy routine!

Wing flaps to all!

I'm having my oven cleaned today - it's an annual thing, and when it happened last time I was on my first flylady thread. I'm feeling all nostalgic - I've picked up so many tips from the system and everyone here. You're all a great bunch, and this is a lovely thread. Life has changed for me so much over this past year....

Right, got to get up. Washing to put on etc...

Staringcoat · 02/11/2018 06:31

What a lovely post CallmeCordelia! Smile

Must think about getting my oven cleaned too so thanks for reminder; usually try and get it done during the run-up to Christmas.

Just dropping in to say hi.
I’m exhausted. Hope to pop in for longer at the weekend. Kitchen clearing ongoing. School taking a lot of my time. Stopped for tea and 15 minute nap yesterday otherwise 8:25 - 22:30 plus an hour in the night browsing on TEs and maths sites.

Waves to everyone will catch up on reading this thread later. Hope all ok.

Cagliostro · 02/11/2018 07:42

What maths stuff were you looking for bower?
Aww cordelia that’s sweet :) enjoy your shiny oven! I’ve definitely gained a lot from joining the Fledglings too 💐

Ugh. Period has arrived. This is the “important” one where we find out if they are awful now, or if the first (proper) one last month was a one off... apologies for TMI

Need to discuss plans with DH. As now not sure what I’ll be able to manage. DH has a work thing in between our day of the dead party and ballet.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/11/2018 07:44

Morning,

I gave up last night and went to bed at a reasonable time (ie before 9pm). It was needed. Could happily sleep a bit longer but life and work needs attending to.

SC I would hope with all the crafting I am doing I count as a proper crafter,,,, GrinGrin

To do
work
fish
washing
ironing
folding
sock pile of doom
ds' clothes away
draft pattern pieces
And if i get chance i need to tackle a bit more of my room.

Staringcoat · 02/11/2018 11:42

Totally proper Hills indeed!! Grin. DD and I have decided we are going to try and make one of these for Christmas. I'll probably be on here three times a day asking you and Meet for advice!

Cag never apologise for tmi. I'm rarely militant about anything but I am becoming militant about speaking out about issues of women's health in my old age. (I wonder how silent and stoic men would be on the subject if they suffered eh?). I've been through years of monthly ill-health and pain only to be fobbed off by docs endlessly in three different countries .But now DD is going through it too, I have surprised myself by turning in to a tiger mother hear me growl type! Absolutely determined she is not fobbed off in the same way! I truly hope yours don't turn out to be awful every month. Flowers Life is hard enough.

Bower oh that sounds really gruelling. Do take it steady Flowers

It's the most glorious day here and would be glorious at wreck2 I could cry. DD is working away on her project. Dh has come back from work, declared himself ill with flu (he often gets ill if he takes a bit of holiday because he's going at such a pace) had a late breakfast and promptly went to bed. So think we can safely say that is the last nail in the coffin of our supposed holiday. Confused

The other delightful thing is that the dog-friendly mouse poison we put down has well and truly worked. Two mice have just emerged from the skirting boards, staggered dramatically across the room, and lived out their final death throes in the middle of the parquet. Nice!

foxessocks · 02/11/2018 12:17

cag I sympathise too, I don't get heavy periods or painful periods so consider myself very lucky but have found my hormones seriously effecting my mood and causing a lot of tiredness lately. I hate it Sad .

As for new exercise regime that was meant to help I've only managed two runs in week one rather than the 3 recommended because yesterday it was pouring hard and then I had to take dd to pharmacist as well. Every other day dh been home too late and he leaves far too early for me to do it then (I'd have to get up at about 3!) Anyway, hopefully he'll be home earlier tonight so I might be able to go out then. Lovely weather here too, cold but beautiful sunshine.

Ta da
Played some piano!
Toddler group
Made beans on toast for me and ds lunch
Dishwasher on
Finalised work invoice

Mostly I faffed about deciding whether to go into town and then didn't really get round to anything Confused

I'm determined to have a more productive afternoon. Going to put ds to bed after lunch.

foxessocks · 02/11/2018 12:18

Oh dear sc hope your dh feels better quickly and sorry about the mice issue! I wouldn't deal with that well!

Staringcoat · 02/11/2018 14:06

Foxes two runs is much better than none and you did very well to do those given your dh's work hrs.

I've found the Nigella recipe! So sorry, it's in "Kitchen" not in "At my table" or whatever it's called. Will pm it later!

Ta da:
long walk with furry in beautiful sunshine
2 x loads laundry
made veg soup for invalid
walked with DD to local bookshop to replace lost text book
emptied dw & filled it again

If anyone fancies a laugh and is in doubt about the wisdom of decluttering one 's kichen this thread has some hilarious bits (see refs to George Formby [sic] grill) Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/11/2018 15:39

foxes, I don’t manage more than 2 lots of exercise a week when the kids are at home (or when they were younger). Tbh it’s the reason I never did C25k.

foxessocks · 02/11/2018 17:29

Thanks sc and toostressy that makes me feel more positive! Managed to go tonight before it got dark so that's good.

Yes hope all ok with zoo

Ta da
Mopped kitchen
Cleaned dishwasher

Cheers everyone happy Friday WineGrinand hope everyone ok as it's quiet on here today!

Bowerbird5 · 02/11/2018 17:58

So glad it is the weekend. I am so so tired. I have a migraine started about 2:30pm. Had two mugs of tea and two pieces of toasted plum loaf. I was quite hungry probably why I have a migraine( plus stress) I was so bothered about remembering stuff for school I hadn’t taken any lunch and as I had by bag and purse stolen last year I don’t take it to school anymore unless I have the car and I leave it in the boot. I resorted to packet microwave porridge with water because I can’t drink milk. Yuk! Some staff came in with baguettes filled to excess. I enjoyed my lemon and ginger tea.
School is really challenging at the moment. Lots of changes and more to come. Some not speaking to others. No one spoke to me. I was glad I was only in for fifteen minutes. I had it cut short because I had the Maths groups then the little ones who go in early so I lose out. No break this afternoon either but the other class watched Peter Rabbit so I could chill apart from the odd wrestling match to sort out.

Cags hope you feel ok this time. The one joy about getting older is no periods. I thought I had quite bad ones until the time through menopause, oh my goodness but after three years of peri - menopausal
agony I sailed through the rest. I don’t miss them one bit and have been known to pop up and make a mug of tea for a colleague if I know they are feeling a bit rough.

So a nice restful weekend packing up the kitchen ha ha! It has to be done by Monday as we don’t know when they are coming to take the old one out and sort out the electrics, pipe work and plasterwork. New stove arrives this week.😀

Waves to all fledglings. Will catch up on all your news later.
Ta das
Getting through the day.

"Two mice have just emerged from the skirting boards, staggered dramatically across the room, and lived out their final death throes in the middle of the parquet."

Ooo now that would be interesting to see!

Oh and for god's sake if you do consider making that - get yourself a pom pom maker. It will save your sanity and mean you get better poms.

Pom pom maker : this is the brand we have. there are other brands. also shop around as prices vary. Amazon only do as an add on to a £20 plus order Shock
