I'd post pics but I'm too embarrassed and scared DM will steal.

I have MH issues and I get so overwhelmed. I'm always so tired. I grew up in filth and now I'm doing the same. I have too much stuff. Bin bags of dirty washing

My kitchen is foul. My bathroom too.

I'm so ashamed.
No get it done when I'm on a high in my bipolar cycle then I can't keep up with it and it gets gross again. Then I spiral because it stresses me out so much.

How do people manage to have nice clean houses

I'm such a failure

Perhaps a name change is in order? FormerlyMuckyMare?

Ok, MuckyMare, if you do your bathroom, I'll do mine...

RallyAnnie · 20/06/2018 09:43

You're doing such a great job, that kitchen transformation must feel good!

I'm glad someone mentioned untuck your habitat. The other one I like is The Organised Mum Method - she has a blog with some "Bootcamp" ideas to get you started and then daily maintenance tasked that take about 30 minutes a day. Over the course of the week you cover pretty much the whole house.

I try to tell myself my house didn't get like this overnight, it won't get sorted overnight either. But every step is progress.

Pigeonpresent · 20/06/2018 10:00

Great transformation! I like organised mum method, take a look online- 45 mins each day and your house stays lovely, keep up the good work!

MuckyMare · 20/06/2018 11:00

Deal undertheoaktree Grin

I'm just doing my fridge right now but will do my bathroom today for sure

What a great transformation OP!

I find it hard to keep things tidy - my children tell me I'm treating them like servants whenever I ask them to tidy their rooms/put clothes away/make the bed etc. I tell them that I'm training them to be tidy.

What I try to do when motivated is:

  • do a quick tidy every night before bed. So toys away, books/magazines away, kitchen worktops clean and cleared, cupboards closed.
  • we have a cordless vacuum cleaner so it's easy to do a quick vacuum around
  • I have bathroom wipes so I can do a quick clean while I'm brushing my teeth
  • put bleach down the toilet before going out in the morning/overnight
  • laundry baskets in each room
  • have set laundry days (e.g. Do a lights wash to include school shirts on a Friday evening/Saturday morning),
  • have a list of jobs that need doing at different frequencies- e.g. Once a week, change bedding/towels (some do it more often), every 1-2 days vacuum around, etc etc

The recycling bins is a good idea. We got some bags from lakeland which are great
https://www.lakeland.co.uk/25100/3-Household-Waste-Recycling-Bags-44L-each?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhKPnf7h2wIVF-AbCh1l3QUyEAQYASABEgJ8HPDBwE&src=gfeed&skwcid=AL!49!3!251275986858!!!g!40228109689!&efid=VCh3DwAAAPujlEDV:20180620100202:s

We also have some big boxes for toys (one per child), have a console storage/charging area so we know where they are and regularly go through clothes, packing up those that no longer fit.

Keep up the good work!

Kitchen looks lovely now well done! I love your pink dresser.

efeslight · 22/06/2018 13:32

Any progress with the bathroom yet? The kitchen looks great and i would love to see more before and after photos of the progress. You can do it!

Nofilter · 22/06/2018 20:13

Hello mucky such amazing progress! Well done you...

I really struggle with motivation. I find I’m either whizzing round like a loon or doing zero and looking at it and feeling crap... you are not on your own.

Threads like this help as it’s fun to update progress isn’t it!

I’m decluttering one carrier bag a day if I can at the moment if things to throw away - like I’ll just get up and go “right what can we bin!) Rummage in a cupboard while the kettles on and find one thing to bin etc that kind of thing...

MuckyMare · 22/06/2018 20:19

That's me too Filter. I'm either cleaning or lay in bed avoiding it all.

I've kept it up though. I've done a few loads of washing. Folded it all. Need to put it away

Kept both living room and kitchen spotless

I've done the hall and stairs and 70% of bathroom

Toilet is sparkly :)

Nofilter · 22/06/2018 20:54

That’s brilliant! You should be really proud of yourself for fighting through that horrid block we can get into - I’ll bet it’s lovely and cosy now too!

Pat on the back!

I also find that if I kind of acknowledge I’ve done something however big or small “that’s the bins done” “that’s a job done emptied dishwasher” then even if I just get a couple of basic ones done I feel like I’ve done something rather than slipping into that negative thinking of “I’ve not done anything and it’s all on top of me yada yada”!

Good for you hun ;-)

MuckyMare · 22/06/2018 22:11

Thanks. I'm feeling really proud of myself.

I treated myself to a curry and rather than leaving the plates and containers out till morning I binned everything and loaded the dishwasher

Its just little things but they make a big difference

You're doing so well! Regarding recycle bins, my wife and I looked at the divided bins but they are so expensive. Instead we went to wilkos I believe, but home bargains or b&m would do similar, and bought three narrow but fairly tall (knee high) plastic storage boxes. We keep them in the kitchen and have one for cardboard, metal and plastic. Easy to just take each outside and empty into the correct box. They don't take up too much space and you could get the kids to decorate or make labels to get them involved if they were interested. Ours live right next to our main bin so no excuses for putting things in the wrong place!

You've inspired me to get our house sorted while my wife is in work today, we've recently moved and unpacking has been slow progress so far. Kitchen first I think.

LuluJakey1 · 24/06/2018 12:25

Mucky Fantastic! I always feel pathetic about how good I feel about keeping ontop of it. Last night I had a night where I was wide awake. I ironed and cleaned the kitchen- especially the stainless steel hob and oven and the floor.Put dishwasher on. Worktops immaculate. This morning I felt so good going downstairs to a super clean and tidy kitchen. Then DD wee'ed on the floor (14m and escaped a nappy change). Smile
Don't criticise yourself if you slip a bit, just get back into a routine. You've done really well and it helps your mental health I think - it is about feeling you have control (is for me anyway).
