I'd post pics but I'm too embarrassed and scared DM will steal.

I have MH issues and I get so overwhelmed. I'm always so tired. I grew up in filth and now I'm doing the same. I have too much stuff. Bin bags of dirty washing

My kitchen is foul. My bathroom too.

I'm so ashamed.
No get it done when I'm on a high in my bipolar cycle then I can't keep up with it and it gets gross again. Then I spiral because it stresses me out so much.

How do people manage to have nice clean houses

I'm such a failure

Placemarking for later op when I got more time. In a similar situation xx

PenelopeFlintstone · 16/06/2018 12:17

How are you going with it, OP?
Did you get any little bits done? Smile

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 16/06/2018 12:17

Hope it's going ok, OP and that you're managing to get a few things done.

UnderTheOakTree · 16/06/2018 21:31

MuckyMare, I hope you're ok?

Nofilter · 17/06/2018 21:40

Hi,

I’m following the decluttering thread of throwing one thing a day away and I’m also attempting 1 x 15minute job of choosing each day - it’s making such a difference and I usually end up doing more than 15mins...

Even if I just sort1 drawer out I feel good :-)

Good luck OP xx

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 17/06/2018 22:03

NofIlter - I'm doing the same! Well, I say I'm throwing one thing a day away...there's a weeks worth of 'things' piled by the front door but that means they're definitely on the way out...

Next have to start sorting my magazines. Anyone want loads of old Muscle and Fitness?? Grin

Moltenpink · 17/06/2018 22:18

Hi,

Hope you are feeling positive today OP.

I am a very messy person with low hygiene standards Blush but a couple of things that help me... I view each day as input and output mess, and make sure that the mess cleaned up exceeds the mess created (one more plate washed, one more item of clothing cleaned) so that logically, the house must eventually improve. I also find an hour long program I like that has ad breaks, and challenge myself to see how much I can get done in the adverts (unloading the entire dishwasher is possible Smile)

Just posting these on the off chance they might help.

UnderTheOakTree · 17/06/2018 22:21

MuckyMare just checking in to see you are?

MuckyMare · 18/06/2018 09:51

Hiya.

Thanks everyone for the continuing supporting messages.

Some hood news. I've been really productive the last few days.
I've got a million miles to go but Ive:

Done ALL the dirty plates in the kitchen
Bagged up the dirty washing
Sorted my living room to the point where it's gone from Kim and Aggie to 80% done. My floor is so sticky I need to do that
My kitchen is still quite messy but it's 50% better. Am getting there

Bathrooms not been touched yet

But my GF did our bedroom so that's lovely now (still got laundry bags full of washing but that's going to be tackled as a whole another day)

Also got the kids to do their rooms

So it's still a mess really but a great improvement

I need to get washing baskets for the kids rooms

And I think I'm going to save up for a recycling bin. One of those with 3 compartments cause I tend to just leave tins and boxes and food all over the kitchen because it's a pain to go to the bin right away. So I think that may help

Anyone know somewhere that does them cheap?

That sounds brilliant @MuckyMare, well done.

I have finished and sent the PIP forms for my DS, now to try not to think about it till they reply!

So I should now be sorting out my kitchen - totally get you about tins lying around, I'm the same. I have got a bin. It's still in its box! Blush

I'm going to put some washing on and clean the sink. Small steps.

UnderTheOakTree · 18/06/2018 11:13

MuckyMare I think Argos do some, or Lakeland. If you could use bags instead, I think Sainsbury's do some that just stand on their own?
You'll have to change your name to Clean&TidyMare! WinkSmile

hellokittymania · 18/06/2018 11:22

OP, I could have written your post this morning, actually lately. I really don't know where to start. I live in a very tiny studio, and things have just gotten completely overwhelming. And, if I put pictures, can somebody please please help me along. I don't know where to begin.

HelloKitty if it were me, I would get a bin bag & go round & throw out any half used like hints, rubbish, stuff that I don't want to keep. (To be honest, unless there's lots of eg plastic, I wouldn't even bother to recycle just for now as even that can become a hurdle!)

Then I would clear off the bed and put all the clothes & shoes on it & then put them away.
Then make up the bed with some fresh bedding as a reward!

Probably then I would stop for the day...!

You can definitely do it! ThanksStar

UnderTheOakTree · 18/06/2018 12:08

WTF autocorrect??? Like hints???
things!

hellokittymania · 18/06/2018 12:13

OK, thank you. I'll start with that.

Quick question, how long does things like granola and teabags keep for? Visually impaired so I can't see any dates on Packages.

ScarletLouise · 18/06/2018 12:20

My fave housework trick if I'm unmotivated is to set a timer on my phone, even if it's just 5 minutes, then go into a room and see what I can achieve before the timer goes off. It's amazing what 5 minutes can achieve in a kitchen.
Once the timer finishes then I'm generally a lot more motivated to then keep going. And even if I'm not then at least I have achieved something.

hellokittymania · 18/06/2018 12:22

This fridge isn't plugged in, so usually I keep things in it that will last for a long time. But the teabags and granola have been in here for a very long time. The granola isn't open.

hellokittymania · 18/06/2018 12:23

Things in cans I can keep for a few years Kantorei?

UnderTheOakTree · 18/06/2018 12:29

I would think you could go by the taste? If the granola has nuts in, they might go rancid but you'd definitely taste that!

AsleepAllDay · 18/06/2018 12:29

@hellokittymania your book pile could be a simple sort? Books you want, stuff for the charity shop, any for the bin... I can be a bit sentimental about books but most can be bought again if chucked away

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 18/06/2018 13:30

Well done, MuckyMare - you've made great headway! keep at it. Starting is the worst part.

Regarding washing baskets for the kids: to begin with you could just use an old pillow case maybe? So long as they have somewhere definite to put their dirty clothes.

Again - well done!

Miladamermalada · 18/06/2018 13:51

@hello that's a nice room under all that clutter. Get some binbags and be ruthless xx

MuckyMare · 18/06/2018 13:55

Thanks!

Hello kitty well done on getting started. It looks like you just have a lot of clutter really.

What I did the last few days is rather than looking at stuff as a whole I've started one one task. Like 'binning stuff' so I get a bag and go through everything and get rid of what can be binned.

Next I'll get a bag and go through what needs washing

And so on.

It helped rather than trying to do one area with 5 different jobs at once.

Good luck!
